Nicholas and Alexandra by Robert K. Massie, which I read in 1980. (MY FAVORITE TO DATE.)
A WONDERFUL, WELL-WRITTEN BOOK. It held my attention and interest throughout.

The series info is wrong btw, Forever Queen is the first book, not the second.

This was the second book this group ever read (back at the beginning of 2008), and I really loved it.

The series info is wrong btw, F..."
Series order fixed.

***ANY COUNTRY, ANY TIME PERIOD, FICTION OR NON-FICTION***
Okay everyone, it's that time of the month - time to nominate! Anyone who would like to nominate one book may do so in this thread.
Clearly people were't interested in the last read (it was a good book though!), so I thought the next theme should be something to get the conversation rolling! Therefore, the theme this month is YOUR FAVORITE, OR LEAST FAVORITE, EUROPEAN ROYALTY BOOK (any country, any time period, fiction or non-fiction). Since one person's favorite can often be someone else's least favorite, this should lead to some good discussions! You don't need to tell us which category your book falls into, but you can if you want to - it's a judgment free zone here!
I know this group has read a lot of books that might be someone's favorite, so I'm only excluding books that we've read together in the past year (so anything we read together before that point is okay). A list of every book this group has read together in the past year is at the end of this post (alphabetically by author, then by title if we've read more than one book by that author), so please try not to nominate a book from that list.
Please try to check amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! If you nominate more than one book, only the first book listed will make it into the voting poll (so save additional books for the next months!). Also, if the book doesn't fit the theme, I won't add it to this month's voting poll, but I will carry it over to the next theme that it does fit under if you would like.
Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until September 16th, 9pm Eastern.
At around that time, I'll make a voting poll and list all the nominated books in it, and people can vote in the poll until the poll closes (set to last through September 20th). Discussion will start on October 15th.
Happy Nominating!
