Tips and questions about self-publishing: how to make files, where to find editors, how to get covers, how to promote.

Graham Clements | 8 comments Linkedin has had a very comprehensive discussion on self-publishing going for months. Lots of authors, self-publishers, traditional publishers have commented. Overall they say Amazon's Createspace is the place to go and don't touch any of the vanity publishers like LULU.

Lulu does EXACTLY the same thing as Createspace, with the massive difference (for Aussies) that they're not owned by Amazon, and therefor do paypal and don't rely on *&^&$^^%$^*&^(* US bank cheques

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) Have you used Lulu, Patty? I keep looking at Createspace and then backing off.

I've put two books on Lulu () for the main reason that I can get paper copies if I need to, for cons and the like. I will eventually go with Lightning Source, but for the time being cannot muster much enthusiasm for print books.

Colin Taber I use Createspace. I know from past experience that the postage on Lulu was outrageous if you were outside the US. I haven't rechecked, but as you're in Australia Patty, I'm guessing it must have changed?

I refuse to do business with people who don't use paypal if I can at all avoid it. That's the bottom line of this story.
