How do you handle possible DNFs?

I think there was only one book I couldn't finish this year, but in general:
1. When it starts to feel too much like work, and I'm dreading reading any more.
2. No, I don't think so.
3. Depends on how far I got.
4. If I made it through at least 150 pages, I would count it but also would put a note in my challenge thread that I only made it through XXX pages or something.

#2 - yes; this had more to do with my compulsions than any redeemable quality in the book ;)
#3 - if I don't finish a book to the end I don't count it as read
#4 - moot, beca..."
Normally I would set it aside for later, and in fact that tends to happen naturally as I drift to other things, but my Kindle/TBR list is overflowing with possibilities so I don't want to make that "promise" to myself right now. If you know what I mean.
Dark Legacy doesn't really feel like work, its just really annoying me. If I read about about that dream one more time I think I'll scream!

Lol, same here! I think I stopped around ..."
Glad to know its not just me! :)
I think what I'll do...Instead of putting this down indefinitely, I'll continue reading the Anne of Green Gable series (I'm on book 3) alongside it. I was going to stop all series for the rest of the year, but, Anne's stories are so saccharine they're bound to help me combat any bad moods caused by Dark Legacy! LOL

I no longer force myself to any point. If I feel the need to put it down and never pick it up again, I just shift it to DNF.
2. Have you ever gone back to a book you once thought you couldn't read/finish?
I have but it's been forever since I have. Not usually.
3. If you do put it down, do you count it as "read"?
Not normally. I usually just shift it to my exclusive "DNF will try again" shelf.
Unless. I'm sure I won't finish it (issues with writing, characters, formatting, etc) and then I do shift it to "read" but I note in my review that I did not finish it and why. I also have a non-exclusive "DNF" shelf for this reason. It's a very lonely shelf.
4. If you count it as "read" do you count it towards the challenge?
Yep but nope. I'm far beyond the 100 books so I'm not really counting right now. Now is more of shifting my books to the appropriate shelves.

I can't say that I hated it. I think I'm just more disappointed. This really could have been a good book, and possibly even a good series if handled properly. It's set up for a sequel that I most likely will not read.

I know that feeling. That's how I felt when I finished reading The Warded Man.

I think being disappointed in a book is even worse than just not liking it. If you don't like it you can usually just go on, but disappointment comes from expectations unfulfilled, and that can be a little harder to shake - if you know what I mean.
So my questions:
1. At what point do you give up?
2. Have you ever gone back to a book you once thought you couldn't read/finish?
3. If you do put it down, do you count it as "read"?
4. If you count it as "read" do you count it towards the challenge?
