Thank you for fitting in the tasks! I would have never thought about it for 20.3. I'm also pretty sure it would work under the Young Readers rule too, so it all works out =)

Bea Is there going to be a 20.9 task?

Bea wrote: "Is there going to be a 20.9 task?"

There will, once we have a 20.9 task. Unfortunately, people do not always respond when we let them know that their name came up, so we have to keep moving down the list until we get to someone who will respond to us and prepare a task.

message 54: by Bea (new)

Bea OK. I was trying to be patient but gave up and thought I would at least check. Thanks for the response.

Ms.soule (mrssoule) I want to use the book Rascal for one of the 25 point tasks but I saw the goodreads page lists it as a children's book, so I'm worried this would be considered a Young Reader book. My copy is the 1984 edition that has absolutely no extra white space, so if I hadn't glanced at the goodreads page, I wouldn't have known it was a kids book yet (found it on my husband's book shelf next to his Ayn Rand books).

It's certainly a children's book, but it's not one that would be considered a Young Reader book - no young reader accomodations, etc. Looks more like an upper elementary/middle grades book, so it's okay.

Sarah (moragepona) | 122 comments Can I read 1 book for more than one challenge? Or does that not count?
I'm thinking of Leviathan which is a group read, but would also work well for Task 20.5.

No, books may only be counted once per challenge

Perhaps if you enjoy Leviathan, maybe the second book in the series works? That way, you're most of the way through the trilogy!

You could read Leviathan for task 20.5 and then read another one of the group read books for task 20.10.

Debsp Hi, this is my first time here. If I read "Angels and Insects" can I count it in three different categories.
Victorian, Insects and Angels.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3034 comments No, only one book per task.

Thanks for your answers, Katrina and Sassafrass, I think I may well read Leviathan for 20.5 and then read The Beekeepers's Apprentice for the Group Read instead, it sounds good.

Welcome, Debsp. Please start by reading through the overview of the challenge. It explains how the challenge works and includes links to the rules. This should answer many of your questions.

Suzanne Pringle I have a question about a serious. I want to read the first 3 books in the series: Black Dagger Brotherhood Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward

Can I claim both task:
25.1 Plumeria (new beginnings): Read the first book in a series.
and
5.7 Third stone from the sun. ??

Thanks

message 68: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8856 comments you could, you could also use Lover Enternal for Sheila's 30 point task (JR Ward also has her angel series that has 3 books in it) or the 25 point one for series/genres, because LE has been tagged as romance

Bea I am reading an audio book version of The Girl Who Played With Fire. And, the rules say to link to the mass paperback for the number of pages. This book has a lot of versions in paperback and the page numbers are all over the place. How do I know if my audio version is equivalent to a big book? And, can you claim big book tickets for audio books? Can someone on this thread point me in the right direction?

You can claim BB tickets for unabridged audios, if the mass market paperback is >500 pages. No BB tickets for abridged audiobooks.

message 73: by Bea (new)

Bea Thanks, Dee and Sandy. I appreciate the help! Off to listen to the book which is over 10 hours long! - unabridged, naturally.

Please note the guidelines for task creators:
Delegate the responsibility to respond to questions to someone if you will not be available every day for the first two weeks after the task is posted or for more than 5 days later in the challenge.

This is a busy time of year for everyone, so please understand that you may not get a response in 3 days to your question.

Is there a general rule of thumb for books that have been published under multiple titles?

I've had The Day George Bush Stopped Drinking: Why Abstinence Matters to the Religious Right on my to-read list forever and was all excited to finally fit it in for a task due to having "day" in the title.

But I just went to request it from my library and they have it listed as All or Nothing: A Short History of Abstinence in America, with a note that says "Previously published under title: The Day George Bush stopped drinking." Can I still use it even if I can only get my hands on a copy with the new title?

If I need to go check in the specific thread for that task that's fine, but I thought there might be a more general rule on books with alternate titles.

The book you read must fulfill the task description and have the appropriate title, cover, etc.
Sorry, that book will not work

(I've been bummed when a library loan comes in with a different cover image or number of pages, too)

Chris (chrismd) | 1237 comments If you haven't filled it already, abstinence might work really well for 20.6 Microhistory.

Suzanne Pringle question about task 10.2 - as you like it, recommendations based on our shelf.

One of my shelves is a child/comic shelf. That won't work will it? It has to be adult/YA novels right?

:)

You may read collections of syndicated or internet comic strips for the challenge, however, you must read at least 500 pages of them.

Kayleigh Reads (kayleigh_reads_romance) I am reading the Immortals series by alyson noel. However she has two author accounts and only one is actually classified as a GRA account. The immortals series is of course listed under the non GRA account. Am I still able to claim a GRA ticket for each book? Since she is technically a GRA. Thanks

Dlmrose is seeing if a "super librarian" can combine the two profiles. However, unless and until that happens, the author must be marked as a GR author on the specific book you post.

It's correct now- Alyson Noel
The author elected to use the easier-to-search spelling of her name

Beth (Beth~a~holic) (bethaholic) For task 5.2. That bugs me! (Read a book with an insect on the cover or in the title or subtitle. The word "bug" or "insect") will The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd by ok? I even googled to see if Bees was an insect and that is a debate :-/

Foxy Grandma (foxygrandma) | 1194 comments This is not specific to this challenge, but when we post the polls, could we somehow post a link to the books in question. A lot of times I am not familiar with the choices and I have to write them down, look them all up and then come back to the polls. Another group I am in puts a link to the books at the bottom of the poll. Maybe we could do that also?

Just an FYI - when I set up these polls, GR said that if the poll was about books, I should use their "book poll" - so I did. When you do that, turns out that the links don't show up. If you just do a "regular" poll, then you can add the book just like in any other post - and then the links show up! Unfortunately, until I followed the GR advice, I was not aware that it would work out this way, and trying to delete and redo the polls would add a whole other set of problems!

I couldn't find a thread for 5.5, just 30 & 50 point threads. Don't worry about it. I may have squeezed as much from this challenge as I'm meant to. Many thanks to all the members who constructed this awesome exercise. It certainly stretched my reading possibilities. See you all for the Spring fling.
