I just received an old book that my grandmother had and I lived so much! I let someone read it and never saw it again! I was so excited! Flood of memories! And I can use it for a task! However it is not in goodreads database and I can’t find an ISBN number anywhere. The book is titled Araminta. The author is Helen Cady Forbes. The book was published in 1927 by MacMillan.
She was a librarian in New York and also a cousin to Esther Forbes, a Pulitzer Prize winner and a Newberry winner.

I Meant to say Thanks, Bea! But it got tangled up with my other post. I just now saw you answered! Don’t know how I missed it before.

/book/show/4...

What I really like is the book has a glued in sticker that a library must have added that says “Wash your hands before you read me and keep me clean! (Smile)
I don’t think I ever intentionally washed my hands to read a library book before!

I did it. It is after my profile pic and the two I have with authors. I also uploaded the printing info, the illustration and that sticker. I forgot about being able to add pictures!
And the book does have 229 pages. Probably only the one printing.

Thanks and uploaded. You are welcome to add those other photos with your review! Worldcat had a 1931 edition, but I didn't add it - it may just have been another printing.

I didn’t know we could add pictures to posts!

Yes you can!
The picture has to have an internet address, but you have already uploaded to your profile. Below is the code and between the " " you put in the URL of the photo you want to add. Do you have windows or a Mac? I have put in spaces after the < and before the/ so that it will display.

Apple Pie Hill - Amazon says 154 pages, pub 1930
Mary and Marcia, Partners - Amazon says 166 pages, WorldCat says pub in 1926
Mario’s Castle - Amazon says 198 pages, pub in 1928
I’ll wait a little but to see if I hear back from Westborough, Mass Historical Society for a picture, then write a little bio about her like dates of birth and death and wear she was born, which I found on Find-a-Grave.

Got these. Amazon had a nice cover for the 1926 edition of Marcy and Marcia.
The photo for the author page must be a public domain photo or you have been given the rights to publish.

I haven’t heard back from the historical people. I have been googling for her and find nothing. I even went to Ancestry.com to see if there were pictures floating around on a tree somewhere. I went to newspapers.com for her hometown. I did see some book reviews but no pictures. I visited the website of her publisher hoping they might have archived photos. The best I’ve been able to do is find her grave and the stone is barely legible. I also looked up her Newberry Winner cousin to see if they had done any family shots but no luck.

even if it is public domain? how did they get Mark Twain's picture or Charles Dickens'? She died before I was born so I couldn't take her picture

Would it be possible to add page numbers to Sunrise at Campobello - A Play in Three Acts by Dore Schary (No listed version has page numbers.)
World Cat shows what looks like the same edition as having 96 pages.
Thanks for the help! (I am trying to get some of the shorter works -- lots of plays -- off my TBR list with task 10.6 Summer Shorts!)

Yes. Filled in your linked edition at 92 pages and that is the MPE. You'll be able to use it with another for 10.7.

Thank you very much!

I noticed on the GR book page for "Qui Sait?" (original French title) the MPE is a completely different book. Probably a mix up with ISBNs. I tried to separate but the tool won't let me. A book called Casting the Ruins (original title Satellites) by M. R. James is listed as MPE. It is the problem and cannot be removed. I noticed you were the last librarian to edit Maupassant in 2015. I thought I would hand it over to you, if you do not mind looking at it.

I removed the cover for that edition which had been uploaded incorrectly. Amazon does not have a cover for that ISBN.
(And nice for you on the de Maupassant short stories!)

Thank you. That was a simpler way than separating. I wasn't sure what to do.
Actually, I had been looking at "Le Main" , "The Hand", by Maupassant, which is a short creepy story with an ambiguous ending. It is just the sort of thing my Middle School students might appreciate.

And early in the learning season, they're coming up on Hallowe'en, so it fits the season as well!

It was published in 1983 (according to my copy and amazon.ca). It's ISBN 0-88999-196-0 if that is helpful.
Thanks

Got it. Apparently it has been published and republished (and maybe republished again!).

Yes, I was a little surprised at that! Thank you.

You will be fine. We look at word count when that is the only information available, but in this case a page count is given, and that over 100 pages.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure, since it seemed a bit random for Amazon to state a page count when it only comes as a kindle book.

EDIT: You have linked to the play, which is an adaptation. There may be other editions, I don't know.

I see. Yes, the play is the work I would like to read.

And you're fine with it. I don't know how they decide how many pages either, but they have and we'll go with it.

Also, the missing apostrophe annoys me.....
(Sorry for being annoyingly picky.)

I'll have to get a super librarian to fix it as it has too many people adding it for me. There is really only one edition and someone added it with the ISBNs mal formed. It may take a day or two.

Oh my..... well that figures! That sort of thing must drive you + super librarians nuts. :) Obviously, it isn't an emergency.

This book is listed as 262 p however it is actually 62p. I plan to use it for the Summer shorts from last season. (I have the physical book) Can it be fixed?

It rarely takes this long, but this is finally fixed.

Thanks!

Could you correct a publication date?
Bronze: A Book Of Verse by Georgia Douglas Johnson

What is wrong about it? Is it this edition that comes up wrong?

It changed for me too, but that is because the description is (correctly) in German, so the auto-translator was "translating".

The Lexile rule does not apply to books on Bloom's Canon.
(And I panicked for a moment, as that is a book I claimed for CYOA!)
