Badgerlord What book has the best kind of magic? Eragon's energy draining magic? Michael Pryor's magic from Blaze of Glory, where magic has set rules, like science? How about Magyk by Angie Sage, in which magicians use tokens called charms to do magic? Maybe the good old magic from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone? Or maybe you have other suggestions.

I'd like to know what you think is the best kind.

Yue Besides HP, the magic in The Enchanted Forest series... it has every kind of magic, its amazing! Everybody should read them.

Crajelf The Night Circus

I quite enjoyed the magic, a duel of styles in the Night Circus.

Sohail Keegan I really like the magic used in The Case of the Toxic Spell Dump by Harry Turtledove. I haven't read two of the four series you mentioned, so I can't say how it stacks up against those them, but I found it really cool and very realistic.

Kaixuan I prefer the magic using the ancient language in Eragon ....

Vincent77f I really like the magic in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Though magic has an extensive set of rules/regulation and history the particular manifestations and power levels have a lot to do with the practitioner's personality and inherent ability. Also in this series characters find new ways to use magic their predecessors had never thought of.

Ged's magic in LeGuin's Earthsea books. The focus is less on doing than on being, and being connected to the energies of the world.

Alex I like the magic used in Michael Pryor's 'The Laws of Magic' series. Sometimes science these days seems so like magic, so why can't magic be a science?
