IIRC, this book was written by a well-known cyberpunk author. It feels like a cyberpunk story, but the catch is that there's practically nothing in it that couldn't happen today.

The plot is driven by the mystery surrounding a series of compelling video clips that have been surfacing on the internet. They seem to be part of a single larger video, but nobody is sure what order they come in.

Entire internet communities have sprung up to discuss and argue these videos. Nobody is able to identify where they were shot, or who the actors in them are.

It turns out that

the videos were composed by the daughter of a very wealthy Russian man. She has an autism-like neurological disorder leaving her unable to communicate normally. Her father with his vast resources has hired hordes of some of the best CGI effects people in the world to render these videos for his daughter.
