Wow. Looks about 50/50. I loved Odd Thomas. It's not too dark. In fact I liked all the Odd books.

yes! Great book :) Not too dark at all.

YES! Read it! It is awesome! Defintely has some good vs. evil messages. Yes, it's scary in some places, but not like gory I-will-not-sleep-for-a-week kind of scary. Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors. Also, you should read it because hopefully there will be a movie coming out soon and you will need to read the book before hand. :) Enjoy!

Odd Thomas is a great novel, not dark at all. I found it had more thriller elements rather than horror. The way Koontz has written makes for a quick paced, suspenseful read(at least in my experience). I regrettably gave my set to a thrift store so I think I may hunt it down again for another round :)

It's one of those either-love-it-or-hate-it books. The Odd series is kind of a departure for Koontz. Written in first person, it steps outside his usual formula. And though the books are ripe with supernatural spookiness, they're a few shades lighter than his normal subject matter. I love the series and have read every one.

My boyfriend turned me on to this book. He had been trying to get me to read it for a while and I am really glad I finally did. It was really good but I wish it would have ended differently.

The Odd Thomas books are very good & well worth a read.

Love this series & Odd's quirky personality. You should definitely read it.

This is the only Koontz book I couldn't finish. I'd get about 50 to 60 pages into it and put it aside. It just doesn't grab me the way his books usually do.

I Love Odd! The first one was the best. These were some of Koontz's last really good novels. Read them all. I hope we see Odd again some day.

I normally find Koontz's stories to be quite formulaic and very predictable, but it's his dialogue that keeps me coming back for more; witty repartee, cheerful banter, and gallows humor - not fully black humor, but very enjoyable.
The Odd series is probably the best example of his storytelling abilities. Excellent character development and consistent throughout the series. I've never felt a reason to re-read any of Koont'z novels (vs stephen king - I've read many of his books more times than I'd like to admit) but I'm sitting here, looking at all of my Odd books, and thinking it might be a good time to visit this funny little man from Pico Mundo.
I know I'm late to the party with this post, but I hope you get the chance to spend some time with Odd, too.

I also heard of a movie in the works..

A very good read and not too dark or depressing. I love a book that can spark a deep emotion like a revelation and would recommend it to all but the most sensitive of individuals.

REALLY LIKED IT. AM NOW A HUGE ODD THOMAS FAN. CAN'T WAIT FOR FOR JULY31ST

Probably the best ending I've ever read, so unexpected! I can't recommend a better book in this genre. Odd is a touchingly sweet 20 year old fry cook who sees "Dead people" and with their help solves a number of mysteries. Definitely not as dark as you'd think, unexpected moments of laughter errupt helping to easy any "Odd" moments.

I've read the whole series when I was about 12 years old and at that time the first one was kinda hard to get into but I pushed through and I absolutely loved everyone in the series and I hope I have time sometime to re-read them.

I've enjoyed the series tremendously. The books are a bit quirky and a bit lighter than most of Koontz' work. Lots of plot twists and the protagonist is superb. Well worth the read.

I didn't like it. It was boring and didn't have the "wow I can't believe that just happened" aspect that most of Koontz's books do.

I'm not a huge Dean Koontz fan, but I found ODD THOMAS to be enjoyable. It has it's dark moments, but they're Koontz-dark--a bit eerie or sad, but nothing gutting. The character is charming, the story interesting, and the ending bittersweet. I liked it enough that I finished without a struggle.

I've been a Dean Koontz fan for years when I started getting bored with his books, I picked this one because I heard it was different from his typical stories. I prefer this series over most of his other novels. It has more of a supernatural feel rather then murder mystery, which tires me. The characters are quirky and lovable. Out of this series the first two books are the best, the 4th one wasn't very good, in my opinion, but the ending had a great lead in for the newest chapter in the story and I'm excited to read it.

I would say if you're used to Dean Knootz' writing style and you like it, this may not be for you, but if you're tired of his typical stuff it's more than worth a try. These books made me think of his Christopher Snow (Moonlight Bay) series. Which I also enjoyed.

Go for it. I have read all the ODD books and while see that there are a few who disliked them,.....Me, my son, my brother and countless others totally loved the series so far. Just bought the new one and get wait to dive in. It is not heavy or scary but wonderful. From page one I fell in love with the characters. They are (He) is vivid and I felt like I knew them...I loved it!!!!!

I love this character. They are dark, but I have laughed out loud reading them too.

it seems to me that koontz's books always have a good vs evil theme, and good always triumphs...

Yes, some bad things happen but it's not a depressing book at all.

This book was amazing! I fell in love with all the characters instantly and it was nonstop action and intrigue the whole way through. In my opinion everyone should read this book.

This was the first Dean Koontz book I ever read and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.I ended up reading the whole series and I believe there was just one book that I didn't enjoy that much. The whole series, overall, was excellent. Enjoy it if you read it.

The Odd Thomas books are among my all-time favorites, and I hardly ever read any Dean Koontz or Stephen King. You will absolutely fall in love with the characters and the writing.

I liked this book, liked all the Odd Thomas books, and just found out that there is another coming out.

I actually felt a bit betrayed by Koontz, as I'd come to expect a happy ending from him. Most of his stories are predictable, in as much as everything seems to work out in the end. It was the first book that I've read by him that actually moved me in some way. I both hated and loved the effect it had on me. I've read all of the other Odd Thomas books, and they're all well crafted. I highly recommend them.

I love this series and never miss the newest one when it comes out. Odd Thomas is an excellent character, who is an unwilling hero...far from perfect, but that is his charm. I highly recomment it.

I liked it until the last chapter or so, any time after the climax, really. I won't spoil it for you, but I detested the ending, and I didn't find it worth it to read the next one.

Great series of books. There are some "disturbing" scenes, but worth the read. The unique characters "offset" the bad stuff. Love Love Love Odd Thomas.

I love all the Odd Thomas books! I have read three of them and wonder if he's going to release any more. I'm a big Dean Koontz fan, but I really, really like this series.

Good versus evil, yes. As long as you can accept that "good" and Evil" may wear funny disguises. I really enjoyed it, but reader beware, something bad does happen.

I love the Odd Thomas series (which I accidently stumbled upon). I have read all four (tried to read the graphic novels-not for me). Of the four, Forever Odd seemed to be the one I liked the least. I disliked Datura--also, there were no bodachs (which really captivated me). I had a tough time putting down the other three. Cannot wait for the movie. Although I think Ethan Suplee would make a better Ozzie Boone!

Absolutely. One of my favorite Dean Koontz books, and I am a huge fan. When you read as many books as I do, there are very few charachters that stay with you so vividly for years, and even fewer books than can bring tears to your eyes. This is one of those select few on both accounts... You won't regret it. :)

I am an Odd Thomas fan. There definitely is good vs. evil theme with good overcoming evil, although the battle continues. Odd is an endearing character with very good friends. Some people do not like the Odd Thomas books. Each to their own. My favorites are the original Odd Thomas and Brother Odd.

I enjoyed it. I don't read much Koontz, but this book was fun. I would highly recommend it.

I named my cat Terrible Chester.

I had to be nagged into reading this book by my husband. Now I feel silly for holding out for as long as I did. I love Odd!

This book is definitely a good read. More than the plot, it is the main protagonist that will endear you to the book. Koontz has succeeded in creating a character that one will surely love - flaws and all.

I loved Odd Thomas. It is a dark book, though, and has it's depressing moments but it's beautifully written by Dean Koontz. I'm a fan.
