You and that wonderful library system of yours, mine doesn't have Charles the King or many of her HF titles, there are some in large type but I don't like those - yet.

Until Bev, says one way or another, add it for now, you can always delete it. How do those count in the GR annual challenge? We haven't had a DNF since you sent me here last year, which I think I'm coming up close to that one year anniversary of when I learned what GR was all about (thanks Misfit), what a happy day!

Laura | 102 comments Dawn, Im reading now Beyond All Frontiers which was recommended by Misfit. You should take a look at it also.

message 153: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments Dawn, nice to see you are enjoying GR. We do have fun here. I don't count DNFs towards the GR challenge, but I'm well ahead of things to worry much. Last year was tougher since I'd been watching the Dark Shadows series and got behind on reading.

Laura, Beyond all Frontiers is a winner. I loved it. Forget the Glory and Scarlet Shadows are both good as well.

message 154: by Laura (new)

Laura | 102 comments I was wondering to ask you about Beyond all Frontiers, now I now for sure I must read it, thanks Misfit.

message 155: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments 32. And Gold Was Ours by Rebecca Brandewyne

I checked my library, not a one and have checked PBS, will have to put it on wishlist. Still having no luck with Costain's Ride With Me either. Not a good week book finding wise.

message 157: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments Phhhhhhhhhht. Dawn, tell your library to get in the ILL program. Libraries have these books. King County does and I know they participate in ILL. Put your foot down!

message 158: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments I have some how messed up on my count and thankfully made a challenge shelf here. That says I'm at 33. Almost there.

message 159: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments 34. Lord Ruin by Carolyn Jewell.

Kim (kimmr) Misfit wrote: "34. Lord Ruin by Carolyn Jewell."

Congratulations for surviving the torture.

message 161: by [deleted user] (new)

That bad, eh?

Misfit | 198 comments Hayes wrote: "That bad, eh?"

Oh yes. That bad.

message 163: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments In light of Bev's ruling on DNFs, I'm going to count this one as I made it more than halfway through the 400+ page book and then donated it off.

35. Devil's Desire by Laurie McBain.

message 164: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments 36. Crown of Desire by Marjorie de Boer (sp?). Good stuff. Second French empire, and subsequent revolution. Scary stuff as well. Don't let that cover and blurb fool you, this is NOT a romance novel.

message 165: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments 37. Colby's Child by Patricia Watters.

message 166: by Dawn (& Ron) (new)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Crown of Desire looks interesting, you and Karla both gave it high marks, another to add to my wishlist. And another case of HF masquerading under historical romance. What would we do without your efforts in unmasking these?

I still haven't been able to get a paperback or later copy of Costain's Ride With Me, I'll let Laura know too. Not that I think either of you will have problems coming up with books to read ;~)

not at all, I still have some mountains of books that must be climbed.....

message 168: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments I'm in no rush either so I'll wait for your to get a copy Dawn. I love finding these older OOPs. They are such a surprise package, you just never know.

message 169: by Dawn (& Ron) (new)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Laura glad you saw this and now you both are up to date on my efforts. It's almost getting comical now but it won't stop me, I'm on a mission now LOL. I knew you two would understand but thank you all the same.

Ron always shakes his head when he sees me getting one of these and I have to tell him its not a romance it's HF. I had to show him both yours and Karla's reviews on Crown of Desire for him to believe me after he saw that cover.

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Covers, blurbs and slanted reviews can all be deceiving. I recently got an old Rosalind Laker, which has to do with the Russian jeweler Faberge Jewelled Path. Neither Faberge, his shop, or working in jewelry was mentioned anywhere. I thought I had the wrong book and had to go online and double check, I still need to get my cover of that book posted.

Misfit | 198 comments That's a Rosalind Laker I hadn't heard of.

#38. The Voice of the Dolls and Listen To Danger by Dorothy Eden. This is the two book edition I'd read and had counted Voice of the Dolls separately. They are both published individually and are complete novels.

Which one of these 2 books do you recommend Misfit?

message 175: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments I liked them both, but Listen to Danger was the better of the two. Lots of red herrings to keep you guessing.

message 176: by Laura (new)

Laura | 102 comments many thanks.

message 177: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments You are welcome. If you try for Bookmooch, give the two-in-one edition a shot, then you'll have both for one point.

message 178: by Laura (new)

Laura | 102 comments No copies available for this combined edition.

message 179: by Laura (new)

Laura | 102 comments But I found a copy in UK of Listen to Danger, hope I'll get it.

What!? I didn't know that was possible to stump you on an author you've read ;o) If you are interested after I've finished I could add it to the others I have set aside. I will have to let you know when I post the cover, scanned and edited it today but now can't find it or the others I did.

message 182: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments #39. Evvy's Civil War. YA.

message 183: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments #40. Tanamera by Noel Barber. Mountain climb completed.

message 184: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments Yay!! You made it :-).

message 187: by [deleted user] (new)

Congrats! I was just thinking that I should get back to my puny climb one of these days.

message 188: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments Only if there are books you want to be reading.

message 189: by [deleted user] (new)

Unfortunately, my buddy-reads have not been on the mountain. That's why I went for Pike's Peak. I'm sort of stalled with GWTW, too. I'm just not good with the chunksters....

Just read what makes you happy. This is why I rarely do challenges. Can't blame Karla for bailing at all.

message 191: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks! :)

message 192: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments Jeannette wrote: "Thanks! :)"

You are welcome:)

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

It was definitely the right word at the right time for me. :)

message 194: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments Hey Jeanette, I'm stalled on GWTW too but am hoping to be back into it soon. Maybe we can encourage each other to get reading it again :-).

Interestingly enough, I stalled about the middle the first time I read it, so I'm wondering if it's something about the book or just how the storyline affects me.

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

Anna's update has given me some encouragement. Now that the action (where I am on the book) has shifted to Scarlett chasing the pigs in and out of the swamp, several times, I've rather lost interest. Everyone but me at my house is off to the gym tonight, so I'll see if I can push through. I hope you're feeling up to it soon, too! I miss your photo essay! :)

message 196: by [deleted user] (new)

Me too!

message 197: by Jemidar (new)

Jemidar | 358 comments Anna made me promise to keep the photos up when I started reading again :-).

message 198: by [deleted user] (new)

I look forward to it! :)

Hurray! Congrats on completing the climb!

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments J & J, you can do it! Margaret and I helped each other through The Turn of The Screw, and you guys have a much better book to look forward to. And you are right it does slow down there when she returns home, its a section that may have been cut out or at least thinned downed by today's publishers. You two can do it plus you can't leave us hanging with the movie slideshow only halfway done, ;o)
