Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) I'm currently reading 2 books that count for this challenge: The Preacher by Camilla Lackberg and the Dutch version of Out by Natsuo Kirino :-)

I really want to read Autobiography of a Geisha. How did you like it? (Will go look for your review now.) I read Memoirs of a Geisha last year and found it unsatisfactory in the end, so am very curious about the Masuda book.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I am curious about your opinion of Out. I received it as a gift last year, but didn't choose it for my challenge list.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Jeannette wrote: "I am curious about your opinion of Out. I received it as a gift last year, but didn't choose it for my challenge list."

I've just reviewed Out. It is a book that was hard to review, because I almost feel guilty having enjoyed reading it so much. After all it is horrible, what is happening.
On the other hand: it is fiction, after all.
My review is partly what I think, what I read in the book and partly a description in short of what happened, without too many spoiler details (I hope).

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll check it out. The central plot action certainly doesn't appeal to me, so I'm hesitant to read the book.

Jemidar | 358 comments Not thinking of doing away with your husband then?

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Not today, at least. He's doing the yard work.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

:-D

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) *grin*

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Slowly but steadily I'm getting ahead :-)

My husband was curious about the cover and asked about the story - he was kind of horrified when I told him especially as I was enjoying it so much.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL! (keep 'em guessing.....)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments I'm curious about your thoughts on Autobiography of a Geisha, too. I couldn't find it so if you get a chance to provide a link, much appreciation.

Edited to change the link to a direct link to my review. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

message 17: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimmr) BoekenTrol, if I click on the link you posted I just get the book page. If you open your review, copy the URL on your review page and paste it in a comment, readers will be taken straight to your review.

Thanks! Will do.

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments So glad you were able to get the review link to work. It sounds like a hard but rewarding read, I may just have to add it to my ever expanding wishlist.

Thank you for liking my review :-)
I have the same 'problem' with my own wishlist...

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Added another book read in the first post with all the books. It looks like I might make it to my goal :-)

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

I think you might! Is Norwegian Wood up next? I tried Sputnik Sweetheart and never finished. If you enjoy Norwegian Wood it might convince me to rent the film of it.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Jeannette wrote: "I think you might! Is Norwegian Wood up next? I tried Sputnik Sweetheart and never finished. If you enjoy Norwegian Wood it might convince me to rent the film of it."

It is not exactly next. It's just 'to be read this year', because there are other books (to be released / promised to through BookCrossing) that I'm reading first. My current read for this list is "The White Tiger". If nothing of urgence comes next, I just might start Norwegian Wood.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll watch for your review. Haruki Murakami can be challenging to read.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Jeannette wrote: "I'll watch for your review. Haruki Murakami can be challenging to read."

Yes indeed. I read Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World in Dutch and found that a difficult book. Can't exactly say why, but for me it was more challenging than Kafka on the Shore, to name one.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Jeannette wrote: "I think you might! Is Norwegian Wood up next? I tried Sputnik Sweetheart and never finished. If you enjoy Norwegian Wood it might convince me to rent the film of it."

I want to watch the movie, but will wait untill I've read the book. (That's what I usually do when there's book made into movie, or book based on movie.)

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to admit that I am interested in the movie only because I like the actor, Ken'ichi Matsuyama. Sometimes I read the book first, and sometimes not. If I like a movie, I look for the book, and vice versa.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Currently reading another one off my MTBR. Have no idea what the English title is, in Dutch is is "De vrouw van de dokter". Can't add a link now, since I'm using the Iphone app. Grrrr! Will get back here later and will add yet another book to the list in my first post :-)

The link to the book & author are in the first post with my list of books read.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) I'm half way there :-)

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

You're ahead of schedule, too! :)

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Jeannette wrote: "You're ahead of schedule, too! :)"

I'm ahead of schedule for both my 2012-reading challenge and this one. Looks good :-)

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) After checking my reading list for the next month or so, it appears that I can add a few more to my list:
Northern Lights
Memento Mori
The Diary of a Nobody
Thursbitch and
Mount Clutter

There are actually 2 in betweens that do not fit the criteria, so I can't add them to my list here...

message 36: by Dawn (& Ron) (new)

Dawn (& Ron) (furryreaders) | 456 comments Isn't it funny how we pay more attention now to what works for this challenge and what doesn't. At least they all count towards total read for the year!

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) I've 'secretly' started another book for this challenge. Meaning, that it isn't a ring book / book that I've put in a book box for other people to choose from. No, this is a book that has been sitting on my shelf for a while, that I was interested in and that I want to release again soon on a BookCrossing meeting (July 1st).
It is: Zware vleugels by Zhang Jie

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

That looks very interesting, BT. I look forward to your review... in the meantime I will put this one on my "radar" list.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Added a few more "Offies" to my list :-) I've made progress, despite the ring books that never stop coming / seem to arrive all at the same time.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

You've changed your name again! I almost didn't recognize you.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Hayes wrote: "You've changed your name again! I almost didn't recognize you."

Well, I only amended my profile.... did NOT intend to change my name, just add my real name to my profile. Will unchange it right now!
Sorry for the confusion! *hurries off*

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) I've added a few Dutch books to the list: they are MTBR 2012 and I wanted to take them with me to Castricum, where the annual big Dutch BC-meeting will take place. (July 1st).
Now I'll get on with the books that are partly MTBR, partly not (rings / rays). Will get back here (soon I hope!)

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

See you soon!

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) I've updated my list again. Looks good :-)

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Added number 33 :-)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome back!

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Added 34 & 35 :-)

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Finished De voortvluchtige by Thoms Bodström; July 13th Recommended!

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Off MTBR but not finished is: The Dairy of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith.

Grada (BoekenTrol) (boekentrol) Finished De wachters van de Duivelsbijbel by Richard Dübell; July 29th.
