Two modern-day children (a brother and sister, I think) take a mysterious subway train that takes them back through time - possibly to the era of the Pilgrims? This one must have been written well before 1978, and possibly as early as the late 1950s (or earlier, but I think not). It was written for older children, as I recall; probably ages 10-16.

I know this one! It's called The Magic Tunnel by Caroline Emerson. The kids go back to very early New Amsterdam (NYC). I owned this in the early 1970s and read it dozens of times.

Um...I've been trying to add "SOLVED" to the topic and move this to Children's/YA-SOLVED, but every time I try it tells me that only a group moderator can do that. Am I making a mistake?
