Surprised at how much I am enjoying Surprised by Joy
C.S. Lewis is not at all the od curmudgeon I imagined.
The Stuff of thought is a lot of verbiage, with the odd comprehensible insight it's definately a slogger, but interesting.

I liked Surprised by Joy more than I expected to as well. And never made it through The Stuff of Thought, although I found lots of interest & will probably continue with it at some point.

Sister Alice is still demanding a lot as the relentless pace does not slacken.Just when I think I get it I am asked to jetison more of my assumptions of the possible.
After these two, I pick up Lewis with relief

speaking of frustration, I spent an hour framing a review for sister alice, and the next day found it did not get posted. It was such a complicated book and the review was so difficult to write.
Almost finished

That sux!
Given the spotty performance of GR, what I've been doing is for anything longer than 2 or 3 sentences - like a review for example - I type it up in Word first, then copy and paste into GR. This way, I don't have to be angry at the overworked GR servers - or at poor little Alice sitting in her chair...
Started Omensetter's Luck this week. A very interesting mix of Faulkner, Sherwood Anderson, James Joyce, in a strange pseudo-"Our Town" kind of setting, but without the schmaltz...

Sometimes I will write out some notes for a review, in this case I was struggling to articulate my confusion over a strange work.
Just looked up william gass, who turns up now and then in the bookstore, but I have never read. Looks like an interesting ouevre, especially the Rilke. Tho I am not a fan of Faulkner, Anderson, or Joyce, its an interesting amalgamation.

I forgot to add, Omensetter's Luck is "A very interesting mix of Faulkner, Sherwood Anderson, James Joyce" - On mushrooms...

Recommending Salmon Fishing In The Yemen

as a hilarious romp with wickedly satiirical insight and some serious questions about the requirements of belief.
It seems like a good moment to finally readThe Salmon of Doubt

The Medieval Murderers book number 3 is nearing conclusion.
And discussion has been had over acquiring some Wallender books.
Perhaps in the Spaceship some Sci Fi should rise up the rankings.
