The Kite Runner - here the character let's go of his country when he flees to the USA with his father - but ultimately he cleanses himself of his wrong doing to his half brother Hassan by returning to Afganistan to save his (Hassan's) son in terrible circumstances. There is also a cleansing in a religious enlightenment aspect towards the end of the book.
