Catie (gollywollypogs) | 53 comments Since I'm making good progress with my list I've decided to move it up a notch. I'll be adding a longer list, though as before I'll almost certainly stray off it.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day is a fun read! Have you seen the movie?

No, I've consciously avoided it because I've had the book for years well before the film came out so I really want to read it first. Have tried once before and drifted off but I want to give it another chance...

Both book and film are very good, even though the film changes the story a little bit. I'm undecided which I prefer; it's been too long.

Misfit | 198 comments Oh, Wintercombe is so good. Plus you've got some Chadwicks and a Penman.

I know. Just added. I've got the complete works of all three ladies. Have not yet read any Penman. Used to know Pamela Belle and have read several of her books but not the one she's best known for. Also have read Chadwick's first two years ago but have several tonnes of books waiting to go. Will be really pleased if I make a big dent in these.

Misfit | 198 comments Once I started with Chadwick I gobbled them up like crazy. Now it's just a long long wait until the next one comes out :/

I wish Belle would find a way to get her books back out, or in ebook format. There really isn't enough on that period, especially from the perspective of the countryside.

Penman, she's just the goddess IMO. Yes, they're long and yes she includes sometimes too much factoids but I love them. The Welsh trilogy is still my favorite.

Catie (gollywollypogs) | 53 comments Penman - I suspect I'll love them just been scared by the size of the books! Gonna do it though.
Belle: Last thing I heard she was trying to find a publisher for a series based in Marlborough's wars. I'd have loved that because that's my prime personal preferred period. I lost her email address when one of my pcs died though I may be able to find it if i dig around again. I agree that her backlist would be prime for the kindle and if that succeded might be a route to see some of her other work into print.
With Chadwick well I read those two when they were new out and I just haven't kept up.
what i like about this challenge is it's a great way to organise myself into reading books I already have and mostly expect to like instead of whatever comes along...

message 12: by Misfit (new)

Misfit | 198 comments I would love to find a contact with Belle and encourage her to get her backlist out. A lot of people want to read her, and last I heard the wait for her books at the swap sites is rather long.

As far as getting through those old piles, did I tell you all that Laura was encouraging me to get a book out of the library and read instead of working on the piles?

Horrors!
