Moved to Square 106: Amy's Task - Roll the die and whatever number comes up, read a book from your ""ro-read"" shelf that coincide with that number. For example, if you roll a 2, you could read either book #2 or #12 or #22, etc.)

Rolled 1

message 52: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments I have a question about Amy's Task. Can I use the 're-order' button to figure out the number of my books? That way, I can tell which books end up in the number I rolled (#1) without having to count. The only thing about that though is that the books are not ordered in the order I added them to my shelf because I used to use that feature to organize my TBR although I don't use it anymore.

Hey, DG - I think in your last post (#26), you were on Square 97... Did you happen to have forgotten to post a move in between?

If I understand correctly, you've used the 'position' feature to organize your TBR? If so, I don't think it matters, just read whatever you've placed in the spot #1 /#11 / #21, etc...

Yes, sorry! I keep track of my moves in my secret group and must have skipped this one when I rolled. I just edited the post for the 101 roll and added it there.

Sorry! That's what happens when you don't pay attention. :)

That's what I thought but wanted to confirm. :)

I'm excited for my first task. And I need to finish the two books I have going now before doing my selection because that will affect the position. It's almost like rolling the die again. :)

WOW!!!

I also landed in that task but I'm reading books #51 & #241 (I only have 259 in my TBR.) Most likely I'll finish 241 first but I felt really guilty to start a book I added recently so I'll also finish #51. :) Just more slowly. :)

Yippee! I am finishing Beethoven's Hair: An Extraordinary Historical Odyssey and a Scientific Mystery Solved (read for square 78 - history) today - about 30 pages to go. I will post my review later.

And... I picked up Interview With the Vampire from the library Monday evening. So...off to start reading it.

Once I finish Beethoven's Hair: An Extraordinary Historical Odyssey and a Scientific Mystery Solved, I will roll again. So exciting!

I thought I would read a Harry Potter if I landed on this square but, now that I am here, I am really not interested in that series right now.

So I am trying to decide among Looking for Alaska, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, or maybe The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It will depend on what my library has.

D.G. | 1370 comments So I started my art book and then found out it's not even on GR. Then I checked a bunch of other art books I own, and they aren't here either! (They were published a long time ago and don't even have ISBNs.)

Then I checked the Overdrive catalog in my library, check out a few likely suspects and find out...they are not on GR either!!!

I really wanted to read a proper art book for this shelf instead of a fiction book that deals with art but it seems I won't be able to. :(

I know what you mean, D.G. It's an unfortunate consequence of the way things get added that oldies-but-goodies are sometimes just not there. My 5-volume classic edition of Poe isn't listed as horror because no-one else seems to own it any more, so they're not shelving it.

One thought: I know you have librarian status. Why don't you just add one of your art books to GR? It seems to me in this case that shelving it yourself is really in the spirit of the game, since it lets you read a proper art book like you want.
