Marjorie Friday Baldwin (marjoriefbaldwin) | 93 comments My first book (Conditioned Response) was selected by the SciFi and Heroic Fantasy Group as their Secondary read for June, 2012 so I'll be giving copies of the book away via coupon code (posted in that group's thread here and I thought I'd invite any Aficionados who'd like to "cross over" to join in the discussions (like a dual group read?)

I'll post the coupon code over there on about June 1 and it'll be valid through June 7th.

I apologize here and now if

(a) This is an inappropriate posting/invite to this group to join with another group's group read (geez, can you actually read that sentence?!) or

(b) The rambling pitch on that thread seems unreadable. This is my first book. I don't know how to pitch it yet. In fact that was my first time making that kind of announcement at all. Be gentle with me on my first time, would you? ((grin)) we all have to learn sometime, right?!

Mods, if inviting this group to join with another group in "co-reading" a free giveaway is a no-no, please just delete this thread. I didn't think this situation was actually covered by "shameless shelf promotion" since I'm promoting the other group's group read as much as my book (and in fact, my book is described over there, not here). I'm just trying to get the two groups together since I thought there was some interest in my book back in Nov/Dec when I was soliciting cover design inputs (ironically ended up hiring a graphics designer to do it for me).

Plus I get points for every person from here that I get to go over there (though no one over there seems to remember exactly what I get for the points *smirk*) I think it's just the idea of the game not the actual points that count...but I'm counting. Oh yeah, I'm counting! :)

No it's okay-I just moved it into the self promotion folder instead of monthly group reads so people wouldnt get confused...

Marjorie Friday Baldwin (marjoriefbaldwin) | 93 comments Thanks for taking the initiative, Maggie.

I'd like to be sure that people know about this, however, as it's not just me promoting my book - it's a group read and I wanted to invite other groups to join us. Is that still considered "self" promotion?

Alternatively, is there any kind of announcement (somewhere not the spammy self-promo folder) that you or I or someone can post to make sure members of Aficionados know about the invite to join the other group, too?

I totally agree that spammy sales pitches belong in the self-promotion folder. This was kind of ...grey, as Mark said. (and I don't see Mark's comment either :-( sorry Mark! I did read it though and I know you said something nice ;-)

no worries, Maggie.

Marjorie, i think you could make an announcement post in the 'What Are You Reading Now' thread - that should make it seen by quite a few folks. or even a post in the Introductions thread.

An announcement about what? The spoiler tag? Me comphused :)

If you meant a shameless shelf promotion, I just posted yet another note (my second counting this thread) in the Self-Promotion Folder (I know! What a concept, promoting in the promotions folder! LOL)

I repeated the idea of joining the other group's read in June. Did you mean to suggest I repeat the invite in the WAYR or Intro folder?

Sorry to be dense, just trying to avoid over-promoting. Someone already accused me of that (publicly by shelving my book on a "decided-not-to-read | over-the-top-promotion" shelf :-( not nice) I don't want to invite other condemnations for shelf-promotion in wrong places.
