Thanks everyone who nominated books for the first themed group read: Insects!

I've put up a bookshelf with all 17 nominations, and done some research on availability in different formats for each book.

Step 1 - Check Out The Book Info
insects-theme shelf
Go to the bookshelf marked: insects-theme (0) and click on it.
It doesn't really have zero books, it's just GR's charmingly quirky book count system.
As you scroll down the books, you'll see a link underneath each title that says " about ". Click that and you'll get a pop-up for each book with the page count and availability info.
Please check this information before you vote on the next book we'll reading as a group.

Step 2 - Vote On the Poll
PLEASE..
DON"T VOTE IF YOU'RE NOT PLANNING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GROUP READ!
If you do vote, you are agreeing to participate in the group read should your book win the poll. So choose carefully, and please give yourself enough time to get hold of a copy and read it.
Poll here: Insects Group Read Poll
Poll ends midnight Saturday night, which I think is GR time rather than local time. To be safe, maybe try to get your vote in by Friday night your local time.

Can I also just say, you people rock! The selection is great: lots of genres, a children's story, a couple of short stories, all different time periods & styles..... I honestly don't know which book I'll choose :)

Valerie Zink | 41 comments I agree, Ruby! All I could think of was the old standard! I plan to read a bunch of those books anyway, group read or no. Thanks group!

No kidding! I downloaded a sample of one of the nominations last night. Then I read it and immediately bought the whole e-book. I won't say which one, but for the curious it was Amy's nomination.

I looked for someone named Amy...no noms by that name that I saw...Anyway I can convince some people to change their vote? :) I am not up for a 7th or 8th reading of Lord of the Flies when there are so many new and different ones on the list!

Amy is the person who nominated the book on the nominations thread. I have to agree about LotF, I feel like I've read and discussed it to death - but apparently a lot of other people feel differently. Is this still required reading in school, or has ridiculous controversy driven it out?

I never read it in school but both of my younger brothers did. I personally didn't vote for it but was planning on reading in July because I have it in paperback (from my brothers) and I am flying to Taiwan. During take-off and landing I need something to read that isn't on my Nook.

Perhaps we can talk Ruby into letting us read more than one book. Although if that second book ends up being The Metamorphosis I am out. That one I did have to read in school and I HATED it.

People can always do buddy reads instead or in addition to the chosen one if they want to read a different book.

Yeah, that might be a good idea Whitney. Maybe now would be a good time to organise that book challenge we've been toying with?

I'm looking forward to that. Hmm, I read lord of the flies about 10 years ago - its going to be interesting to see how I feel about it now!

Same here. Except it was more like 25 years ago for me. Sigh :(
