TOPIC: Historical Romance - any element of romance, anywhere, any era. Enjoy!

Hello all! It's time for the third historical fiction book nomination cycle.

As a reminder, the nominations and voting will work the same way for this book as it does for our other book selection, but on a staggered schedule. The nomination thread will be posted on or about the 11th of the month, with voting to start on the 15th. We will vote until the 20th and then start reading together on the 1st. This should allow those who are interested to read both books along with the group.

I decided to blatantly steal Sara's idea for the February read and make this one a historical fiction related to romance to get us all in the mood for Valentine's Day! I don't care where or when it's set, just make it steamy! This is also in response to those of you in the other thread who said you might be interested in reading other kinds of historical fiction. We'll see how this month's read goes and try to sprinkle in some variety every quarter or so into this group.

As always, please try to check Amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! Also, if the book doesn't fit the theme, I won't add it to this month's voting list, but I will carry it over to the next theme that it does fit under if you would like.

This time, let's only have one nomination per person. If we don't get enough nominations, I'll open it up to more than 1 per person.

Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until January 15, around midnight. I'll post the voting thread on Friday. Voting will go through the 20th and reading on February 1. Looking forward to it!

May be a bit tame for the steamy description but I nominate Through a Glass Darkly
by Karleen Koen.

Haha - no worries, it doesn't really have to be steamy. I don't think I've ever in my life read a book that could be considered steamy, unless you count The Other Boleyn Girl. ;)

by Jude Deveraux



This is the first book in a four-part series about four brothers (and one of many of her books about the Montgomery family which spans centuries - wikipedia has the full list). I think this takes place in the medieval era or middle ages or sometime way back when. I read all of Jude Deveraux's books when I was a teenager and loved them at the time. I especially remember loving this series although I don't remember much about it.

Hi Im New here and have read this book allready - perhaps i should have checked if you guys have done it, but i gave this book a resounding 5 stars and doesnt seem to be too widely read on this site,( 160 ratings, 25 reviews) - and yet it one the whitbread prize in UK and listed Orange Mobiles 50 essential reads list polled in the UK. Fits the category perfectly and id definatley participate in discussion as i only read it a couple of months ago.

Set in the court of King Christian iv of Denmark, with the main romance being between one of his musicains (an English Lute player) and the maid of the Kings evil adultorous wife. Beautifully written.

not quite Early Modern but getting there !! and while not a scottish non fiction history book at least it is scottish
