I think that might have happened before too Michael;P lol

Amy (Lost in a Good Book) (babyleo88) | 28 comments The Island of Doctor Moreau by H G Wells and Of Poseidon by Anna Banks. I'm thinking of adding Tithe by Holly Black cause it has a gorgeous cover as well which kinda was a reason I picked it, as well as the author.

The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells

Visible Procrastinations | 24 comments I selected my book from the Little Free Library in our Staff Room, specifically because it was a reviewer copy cover.
Little Brother by Cory Doctorow

Another interesting thing about this book is that you can read the entire book as it is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-ShareAlike license, which lets you share it, remix it, and share your remixes, provided that you do so on a noncommercial basis.

VERDICT: ★★★★
An entertaining read. Little Brother gives a large nod to George Orwell's 1984 updated to take into account September 11th, the Internet, the DHS and the war on terror. Written for a YA audience the book is also a pretty good read for adults with the story covering good mix of technology, privacy and freedom issues.

Maggie Maggie wrote: "Oooh.... I'm in for sure. So many covers to choose from: I'll try to read at least some of the following:
Essential Sufism by Robert FragerHow to Eat Like a Tree Unearthing the Moderate Eater in You by Dara Boland 4 stars, and The Rose of Sebastopol also 4 stars. I've started another, Stumbling Toward Enlightenment, and whilst I like the cover so much I'm not too sure about the contents!

Kim Marie | 894 comments The need to know the ending to this story kept me reading until 3.00 am so I guess that says something about The Child Thief The Child Thief by Brom which was chosen mostly for it's distinctive cover.

At the time I didn't realise that Brom is both author and illustrator and the beautiful drawings add so much to the story. Be warned, it's an extremely dark and gruesome retelling of the Peter Pan tale but I loved it.

Don't you hate it when that happens Kim!! It makes you sad when you finish it!

Kim Marie | 894 comments Actually Brenda, I think in this case it was more a sense of relief that I'd made it to the end as it's quite a harrowing tale!

In that case, did you sleep after you finished it? Your mind would be going over and over it, wouldn't it? You need something light and fluffy to read next;)

Kim Marie | 894 comments The sleep of exhaustion, lol.

Too right about the light and fluffy! The Christmas Wedding The Christmas Wedding by James Patterson is next up :)

Oh that is a good book! I read that for our Christmas challenge, and really enjoyed it!

I'm about to start my next one for this challenge...light and fluffy it'll be too!
Puppy Love Puppy Love by Frauke Scheunemann look at that GORGEOUS cover!!!

message 115: by Kim Marie (new)

Kim Marie | 894 comments Ohh Brenda, I fell in love with that puppy face too so I bought it for my daughter's birthday but I think she's been too busy with Uni work to start it yet. No doubt it will be passed along to me eventually :-)

It's the ONLY book I've ever bought solely for the cover! It's so cute...

Isabel Mansfield (issy05) | 62 comments I just couldn't resist this cover The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen this is not the way I usually pick a book but this one was so pretty

message 118: by Sally906 (last edited Aug 13, 2012 07:28PM) (new)

Sally906 | 71 comments I was away when this started - so while on holidays I had a browse through my kindle reader at the bookcovers on there and came up with (and have finished):

Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie Matched by Ally Condie - The cover of the girl in the bubble intrigued me - It did represent the story quite well because the main character might have well been living in a bubble as everything was spied on - even their dreams!!!

Spin cycle by Ilsa Evans Spin cycle by Ilsa Evans - isn't that picture gorgeous, a woman in a spinner - this one also matched the story as the main character's life was spinning out of control as she gathered the threads to put it on track

Opal Fire (A Stacy Justice Mystery #1) by Barbra Annino Opal Fire by Barbra Annino - love the big dog and the picture conjures up a user friendly cosy romantic book. Turns out it was a bit more gritty than suggested - there was romance but the focus was on the investigation and the dog was not talking or magical but was a loyal sidekick. I really loved it.

Maggie Mistress of Rome (Rome, #1) by Kate Quinn
Finished this one yesterday, a thoroughly absorbing and entertaining story of ancient Rome and a few nasty characters, the ones you love to hate. There are a few more in the series, all with beautiful covers too. I'll be read the next one asap.
Daughters of Rome (Rome, #2) by Kate Quinn

Amy (Lost in a Good Book) (babyleo88) | 28 comments Kim you have made me want to read The Child Thief I just have to find it now :). I am still looking for another of my August challenge books so hope I find this as well before the month ends.

I finished The Library of Shadows a few days ago and I adored it! I cannot stop thinking about it despite having read three books in between. If the cover doesn't get you in the story will, it was spectacular.

message 121: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 123 comments I read Foal's Bread by Gillian Mears by Gillian Mears because I love horses and I loved the way the cover captured the movement and feel of the wind in a horse's mane. I have to admit I did read it on Kindle, but I'm tempted to buy a copy because I really loved it. It was quite a tough read emotionally but so evocative of Australian rural life and working with animals. Great characters and I have heard it described as "rural Gothic" which I thought was a good description. Brought me to tears at some points and brought back fond memories of when I had a beautiful horse. 4 stars

KJ I've just finished Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger and I loved it. Great narrative with interesting elements added along the way. Highly recommended :)

Kim Marie | 894 comments Amy, I hope you are able to find a copy of The Child Thief because it would be great to know what you think of it :)

My thanks to Sally906 for bringing Opal Fire to my attention....I might have to try the Spring Challenge just to make even a small dent in Mount TBR!!

Christina M (condygurl) | 10 comments Sweet Evil... Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy, #1) by Wendy Higgins The cover caught my eye and after reading the blurb I have to see what the fuss is all about.

Amy (Lost in a Good Book) (babyleo88) | 28 comments I know there is still time left but I haven't found another pretty cover to read yet and the one I wanted can't be found :(. But still, we completed what we had. And yes a smidgy cheat because three were part of the series but they also have great covers.

Of Poseidon (Of Poseidon, #1) by Anna Banks - 3 stars
The Library of Shadows by Mikkel Birkegaard - 5 stars
Tithe (The Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black - 4 stars
Valiant A Modern Tale of Faerie (The Modern Faerie Tales, #2) by Holly Black - 3 stars
Ironside by Holly Black - 4 stars
Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr - 3 stars
The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells - 4 stars

message 132: by Kim Marie (new)

Kim Marie | 894 comments I did say my next book would be light and fluffy and that's what I got with The Christmas Wedding. It was a fun read but I would probably have to say that if the main character seems a little too good to be true then maybe that's the case!

message 133: by Trina (new)

Kassassinn I remember about 4 years ago, I saw someone in my class reading a book with a pretty interesting cover so the next time I went to a bookshop, I bought it. The book I bought completely changed my style of reading & has had a really big influence on my life. Can anyone guess what book?... Twilight, of course!

message 149: by Kassassinn (new)

Kassassinn Ha ha! Twilight started me on teen fiction (I used to read biographies, etc) which eventually lead me to HG later on. Unfortunately, The Hunger Games wasn't my first love, but it is now my favourite.
