I thought a game where we get to know each other a little bit more would be fun.
Two Truths and a Lie is a game I got from my parents' church five or six years ago. You tell two truths and a lie, and everyone else has to guess what the lie is.
1) I'm a vegetarian.
2) I have two cats and a dog named after my favorite authors.
3) I like a little bit of everything as far as books go, from sci-fi and fantasy to biographies to historical fiction to contemporary fiction, as long as the book is well-written.

Hmmm - I'm leaning towards either 1 or 2. I'm going to say #2 is the lie.

I'll put mine down after a few more people lie and you reveal your lie.

It's #2. I don't actually have any cats, and when we brought our dog home from the kennel, he responded to his name, so we decided to keep it, instead of changing it to avoid confusing him.

Okay...I'll bite ...

1) I am American but was born in Calgary.

2) I have a rescue dog named Shellie and a big yellow Tom Cat named Wally.

3) When I was 4 my mom handed me a copy of Little Women and told me to let her know if I needed any help. I have been reading ever since.

I'm going to say #3.

No. The lie was #2. They are not my pets. I am pet sitting for one of my girlfriends dog and her dads cat while they go to Disney for the week. I don't have any pets of my own.

Ok, here are mine:

1) I've set foot in every Canadian province or territory, except Nunavut.
2) I went through a nearly two-year old dry spell when I couldn't get excited about reading any sort of fiction and didn't finish reading a single novel.
3) I've attended college/university programs in three provinces/territories.

Hmmm... I think your lie is #1. Something tells me you've been to Nunavut too.

I'm going to go "eenie, meenie, miney moe... and say #3.

Nope, #1 is the truth! Yrinsyde, is your lie #2? Because the term "" is so strange, it's tempting to just believe it (why else would you mention it?) but that's also why I pegged it for the odd one out.

I also met a lot of Australians in Japan when I lived/worked there, which makes your #3 especially believable to me. YaY Commonwealth countries and our generally pleasant reception globe-wide! ;-)

Janice is right - my untruth is Japan - I've never been there! I've worked in a Herbarium - the scientific plant library specifically.

You got it, Yrinsyde. I've only attended college/university in two provinces so far, but in October I start a certificate program from a college in Alberta so that'll be my 3!

Working in a Herbarium sounds pretty cool! Mind you, I'm all interested in science and stuff, so I might be a little biased ;-)

1) Growing up, I spent summers on my aunt and uncle's farm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which is partly what inspired me to decide to do this challenge.

No. The lie is realy the first one. At various times, I've wanted to be a paramedic, actress, author, or singer/songwriter. I think the singer/songwriter phase lasted the longest. The author and actress phases were the shortest.
I've only spent maybe two or three weeks total in Canada- once on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls when we were in New York state for my cousin's wedding and we decided to see what it looked like from the other side, and one week in Quebec.

Aha! So fun! Did the singer/songwriter phase last long enough where I might recognize your sounds??

No, I never actually got around to recording anything. It faded once I realized I'd probably be followed by paparrazi, have my picture in the tabloid, have my hair, makeup, and clothes analyzed, be called fat, and all that jazz, and I didn't really want that happening to me.

Oh yes, the hazards of the rock star life...what style of music if that isn't a personal question?

Pop music, mostly. I wanted to be Britney Spears, minus the ultra-skimpy clothing, and then it was something less tweeny/teenage-angsty and something that would appeal to a wider audience.
Yep, the rock star lifestyle is hazardous.

I definitely had a Madonna dream back in the day (this is like "Lucky Star" days...so we are talking ancient history at this point haha), even went so far as renting a pavilion for my break-out performance. Funny, I'd forgotten all about that...

Did you write your own songs?

I wrote a couple songs, and some poems that could have translated well to songs.

I'll give away one of my truths..... I petted a shark at the aquarium in New Orleans. The texture of the skin was unexpected! It was a young nurse shark.

So that leaves 2 or 3 as the lie. :)

I remember sitting under the stairwell at the highschool memorizing The Raven, orally speaking the lines over and over. It must have been kind of spooky coming down the stairs and hearing this disembodied voice quoting that book. Unfortunately, it didn't stick with me.

Oh, my grandson loved the Jungle Book when he was 2. We had a VCR tape of it that he watched over and over. Consequently, my husband and I would be lying in bed after he'd gone home singing various songs from the movie. That's when you know you are grandparents.

He went from Jungle book at age 2 to Jurassic Park at age 3. LOL!

LOL, Janice. I'm sure it must have been weird for others hearing disembodied voices reading The Raven aloud.

3) My favorite author is Anne Tyler, because she's from Maryland, like me.

Guessing that #1 is the lie as #2 and #3 make sense ... although Anne Tyler is not originally from Maryland although she has lived there since college.

It's really #3. Anne Tyler isn't really my favorite author, or even in the top 5.

Melissa, I don't know where your obsession currently lies, but there is an apparent Aboriginal presence in so much Canadian literature, if you are looking for suggestions I am happy to assist.

I am going to say #2 is the lie, I believe you are now opening a bookstore. Number 1 is easy to believe, because who can keep up with The Kardashians?

You are right Melissa. When I was 15 I was a member of my High School band that did play in a parade in Washington DC. I was told that President Ford was watching the parade. I do not remember seeing him. If he was there, that was closest I got to him.
