Since we are reading a book he co-authored and he is one of my favorites I figured I would make a topic to discuss his other books if anyone wants to, everytime I read one of his books I end up reading at least 3 more before moving on to the next author. I think I am about out of his novels that are readily availible and may have to start looking on eBay for the harder to find ones.

I have yet to read these.
The cage
Take the long way home
Dead sea
terminal
Urban Gothic
The rising
City of the dead
Clickers vs zombies
And clickers 3
I have been avoiding the zombie novels and have a few others yet to read but that's all that I haven't read of his work that is available from Amazon.

I will have to figure out which zombie novels connect to clickers. He has 2 series and one is part of the labrynth mythos and one isn't but I don't even know which books are in which series. But I want to read the ones that connect to clickers vs zombies before I read it.

message 4: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments the rising and city of the living dead are one series and dead sea and entmbed are another. rising /city are deeply connected to the labyrinth mythology.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I might make rising my next Keene book then.

message 6: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments I liked both of those zombie books, but i prefer Dead Sea over those books. Though i might like them more now that i've had more experience with his Labyrinth stuff since i originally read them.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Have you read all the clickers books? I am not big on zombie novels so I figured I would save them for last but I don't want to read clickers vs zombies without reading all the books leading up to it. I will probably read rising then clickers 3 then the second zombie book and then clickers vs zombies.

message 8: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Well i've read the first two Clickers. I don't know how you'll read Clickers Vs Zombies unless you got the limited edition set or whatever i think. I plan on getting Clicker 3 eventually on my kindle.

I like zombie novels and Dead Sea was more of a regular zombie novel and Rising/City were more of a possessed zombie because they're dead bodies possessed by evil spirits.

I wondered why it wasn't in the kindle store when I searched all the books I haven't read by him, I was thinking it was probably listed under JF Gonzales since alot of co authored books on kindle are only listed as one author or the other. I looked it up and it said it will eventually be availible in paperback and digital so I will wait for that, that is the order I plan to read them but probably not back to back or anything. When it comes out I will be ready.

message 10: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Yea, i'll hopefully have read Clickers 3 by then. Maybe once i get a good chunk of the my unread Kindle books read then i'll go about getting it.

I saw that, can't wait for crazy bear mountain they come out in digital next month.

message 15: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Yea i ordered Crazy Bear in paperback, but i had bought the limited edition of Entombed...which i kind of wish i had just waited, but oh well.

message 16: by Scott (new)

Scott (ttownscott) I have Kill Whitey from Brian Keene on my kindle but haven't started it yet.

message 17: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I loved kill Whitey, it is not his typical type of book though it is what I call a chase book. Definitely one of my favorites of his though.

message 18: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Yea I enjoyed KILL WHITEY enough.

I should have AN OCCURRENCE IN CRAZY BEAR MOUNTAIN tomorrow or wednesday and will probably read it thursday or friday.

I really need to catch up on my Brian Keene, another novella came out today that was previously only a limited hardcover. Scratch it also includes a short story.

message 20: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments yea I saw that about Scratch. I still need to read Alone.

message 21: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I need the cage, alone, crazy bear MT, and now this. And that's just the newest ones.

message 22: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments the cage wasn't bad and I just read crazy bear the other day and it wasn't too bad either. crazy bear has an extra short story, but I had read it before.

message 23: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Finished reading ALONE and SCRATCH last week. I liked both of them.

Scratch and it's extra story Halves I liked the best. With Halves i kind of figured out where it was going pretty quickly, but it was still a fun short read.

I see that clickers vs zombies was released in paperback today and will have the digital editions out soon, good thing I just read clickers 3. I guess rising will have to be my next free read when I get all caught up on group and buddy reads.

I just saw that Brian Keene is releasing the sequel to urban Gothic next year as well as his first vampire novel.

message 26: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Yea i heard about Suburban Gothic i while ago. Tho i wonder if the vampire one is gonna be one of those books he releases for some crazy amount. It's a Cemetery Dance release so i dunno how much those run. The Camelot books one will probably run at least $40 if not more tho.

message 27: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I was wondering about prices also, I thought about waiting to read urban Gothic until the sequel came out so I could read them back to back but who knows when it will be available in a non collectable version for a decent price.

message 28: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Well Suburban Gothic is a deadite release so it should be in the $12-$15 range (whatever his full novels usually cost from them).

message 29: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
That's not to bad, I don't mind spending a little more for his books just not the collectable prices.

message 30: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Yea, i really regretted buying the special edition of ENTOMBED. The quality of the book wasn't what i was hoping for and I was under the impression at the time he wasn't releasing it in a cheaper format for several years then Deadite released it less then a year later...at least it was signed by Brian Keene.

Longtime readers know that all of my work occupies a shared universe. Most fans have referred to it as The Labyrinth Mythos, and I’m okay with that —it’s as good a name as any. Readers also know that a seven-book series called The Labyrinth is in the works. Comparisons to Stephen King’s Dark Tower epic are fair, although in truth, it will be more like Marvel’s Secret Wars and DC’s Crisis On Infinite Earths

I just copy and pasted that from Brian keene's website. Something to look forward to.

Actually The HC edition of Entombed was released April 2011 with the Deadite PB edition coming Sept 2012 (though it was planned for April 2012). I could be wrong, but I don't think the PB edition includes the short story White Fire that was in the HC edition. Like I said though, I could easily be wrong as I don't have any edition other than the Limited Edition, which I am glad to have.

A lot of Keene's stuff sells well on eBay and places like that (especially shortly after it is released), so you could always try to sell your HC edition there. Might even be able to sell it for more than you paid if you are lucky. I considered selling my copy of Entombed after I read it since I could have definitely used some extra money then, but decided not to since I didn't absolutely need the money. I do know that I saw copies selling for $70+ (Those were the high bids on auctions, not a set price) around the time I was considering selling my copy.

I personally love the limited edition HC books and get them when I am able to, but understand not wanting to pay that price if you aren't a collector.

Also, he doesn't release things for a crazy price, the prices are set by the publishers. I think the crazy prices are the ones set by the mass market publishers. A trade hardcover edition of a book these days is sometimes over $30, and the quality of the mass market editions is a little lacking. I would much rather pay extra for a Limited Edition of something from authors I love to read. Have not been able to afford to do that lately though, so my book buying has basically been limited to free eBooks I might never read since I prefer a physical book over a digital one.

Most of Keene's books do get released as a limited edition first, with a cheaper edition released later. Some don't get released in any other editions though, like his recent book Sundancing

Hopefully I will be able to afford more books soon, still several Brian Keene books I wanna get and read, though I still have several I already have I need to read.

Just noticed this.

The price wasn't the problem for the hardcover limited edition exactly. The quality of the hardcover itself was. The dustjacket was not up to the quality of a regular hardcover that you buy in the store (it was this folded piece of paper in a plastic wrap covering). The pages weren't anything special and definitely were not as good a quality as the regular hardcovers that you get in the stores. I've gotten several hardcover limited editions at a few bucks cheaper and have gotten books that were way better in quality then the Entombed limited edition hardcover that i got.

As for the stuff about the paperback releases and stuff. When he went to release the limited edition i remember him saying something along the lines of not releasing the cheaper versions of the book for at least five years, but then turned around and released it a little over a year later. If i had known he was going to do that i would have waited.

I don't mind paying extra for limited editions, but I at least expect to get something of a good quality for the extra money.

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Also, Brian Keene has a short story collection he just released titled Blood on the Page: The Complete Short Fiction of Brian Keene, Volume 1 for $4.99. It has a lot of stories in it too.

I"m not reading but it seems to have some great reviews so far. Are you enjoying it?

message 37: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Yes, it's pretty good. I'm almost done with it. More of a thriller novel with a sea monster in it then his usual horror stuff. The writing is a little better too then a lot of his other works.

message 38: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments Have it, but haven't read it yet. Haven't read much at all this year, actually.
