Day 1, book 1 is now finished.

The Shaman Sings by James D. Doss--a little slow starting and the mystery was a little sloppy. LOVED Daisy--the Shaman in the title. Still, the first book in a series always seems to be a little slow, and sometimes sloppy. I have more books in this series to read, but will wait til I crank out another new author.

I plan to participate, but I think I'll add my books as I go instead of posting up front.

I will be adding mine as I read them too Sarah--that's what I did with the previous challange also. That way, I'm not tied into a specific book. So I can change my mind if I find a new book that I want to read instead of one that I already have.

That's cool, guys. If you can number them with an a finished reading date, or a strike out, that will be very helpful when I do an update.

Just sort of separate them from the paragraph or discussion text, so when I scroll down, I can easily see them.

I'm nearly done with book 1! :) Yay! Hope everyone else is doing well in their reading!

Ok, let's see... nine new authors... well the BOM reads help with that, a few of those are new authors for me anyway, not JR Ward, Patricia Briggs, or Jeanine Frost, but the rest are. So, my list as of right now is:

Okay, I totally read this entire book yesterday in (almost) one sitting. I only stopped when it was like, 6:00 and I realized I needed food and a shower. :)
Holy craprockets! I had to make up a whole new word to describe that book. I think I singed my fingers, it was so hot.

But the answer is yes, I liked it a lot and now am wanting to read other stuff by that author. :)

I've already read my first book, one by Tate Halloway. And I've started on my second! Today is a big cooking day for me, I'm making loads of freezer meals... so I doubt I'll have much more to report. I am getting ready to get started...

Too funny Nichole. I'm glad you liked it. It is definitely different and probably not everyone's cuppa. It is very hot but I also loved that the story was so interesting. I think Sci-Fi erotica is my new favorite genre.

Melinda, if you can get your hands on a copy of the On the Prowl anthology before your read Patricia Briggs' Cry Wolf, I would definitely recommend it. It's not required, but the short story is what set up the book and will definitely answer some questions you might have otherwise. They're both brilliant, by the way. ;)

one for the slush pile--
Well, I tried--for almost 5 hours--to plow my way through book 2 yesterday. But it just did NOT hold my attention. Not sure why, but I got as far as page 35. And that was it. I was really disappointed, as this was an SFX Magazine's "Best Book of the Year" winner. I'm just giving up on it and will try a different book in my tbr pile.

Oh--title of book was "The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the apocalypse" by RObert Rankin

Day 2 down--and no book to add to my list. :o(

Oh, mom, Chocolate Bunnies looked so good, too! Wonder what the problem was with it...

LOL, I haven't read any Rankin, but I think my husband owns them all and quite likes him. But hey, there's definitely no point wasting time on books you're not enjoying. Life's too short and there are too many good books out there that you could be reading. =)

I haven't finished my second book either. I can't get into it. But I did spend the bulk of yesterday in my kitchen busy making freezer meals. So it wasn't like I really tried. I'm trying to do it now.

Anyone read Patricia Cornwell? I'm just sick of hearing how this DA is a brat. LOL

And people wonder why I prefer sci/fi and fantasy. Right about now someone should pop up with a broadsword and whack the horribly bratty DA's head off or something. LOL

Thank you for the suggestion DarkHeart. :) I'll look into that and see if I can find it.

I felt like it was actually written for someone about 12 or 13 years old. I'm not sure my 10 and 12 year old grandsons wouldn't think this was a little below THEIR reading levels.

The weird thing is--I usually LIKE this kind of book. Not sure what's up with this one. I might try it again later this month--maybe I'll be able to read it then.

On the other hand--

Book 2 is Cruising for Murder by Susan Sussman.

A problem for book 3 is--I've gotten in TWO books in series that I really enjoy that I'm trying to NOT read til I get at least 1 or 2 more of this month's challenge out of the way. And we are short 2 days for February. That's the problem with a 28 day month.

I haven't finished any of my books yet either. I ended up starting the 7th Women of the Otherworld book the night of the 31st and had to finish it first.

I'm about 1/4 of the way through Vampire Academy now though and am enjoying it so far.

Mum, You'll do fine. You read so many books! Don't forget I have this stack for you! You'll fly through them!

Angie, I can feel ya. If I've got a good book I'm working on, I'd hate to go start another!

Angie I just finished VA and gave it 4 stars as well. I love Mead's other two series and glad she didn't disappoint with this one.

Vampire Academy was my first book of the challenge, and I was immediately hooked. I'd borrowed the book from a friend, but before I was even finished with it I went and ordered all three books for myself. Now, while I wait impatiently for them to be delivered, my friend has offered to lend me book 2. I'm so sad. LOL

Jael, I haven't read any of her other series, I'll have to give them a try now. I really like the way she handled mental illness. It's something I've dealt with my entire life and she did a really good job of portraying what it's like for both the person experiencing it and their loved ones.

Darkheart, I have book 2 but am trying to read another of the books from my list instead of going on. Most of the books on my list are the first of series and I figured it would be hard to get through the month without getting hooked into a series lol.

Yeah, I've had Succubus Blues for a month or so, but haven't gotten around to reading it. I will definitely have to try it out soon though. But yes, I knew I'd get hooked on some of these books and want to carry on with the series. I'm so weak. LOL Thankfully, although I enjoyed my second book of the challenge, the next book in the series isn't out until next month. =)

That's the tough thing about this challenge! 9 books by authors you've never read will mostly likely be 9 "start of series" books. So how do you curb the impulse to skip everything else and just keep reading that series, if it hooks you? It is indeed a "challenge"...

Nichole, I thought of that, too. My first book? I already have two more in that series on my shelf. It's making it painful to get through this crappy Patricia Cornwell novella. HAHA

oh wow. I finally have time to read, and y'all are on month 2 of monthly challenges. I'm probably going to have to list the books as I get to them--I'm doing a TBR challenge list to try to get books off my TBR shelves... Anyway, I'm sure I'll have some new-to-me authors in the stack. (I've never read Shana Abe yet.)

I have, however, read one PNR romance this month already, though it's not a new-to-me author. I'm going to list it anyway. It's the first book I read on my brand spanking new navy blue Sony e-Reader. And I have one in my bag I want to read that is a new author to me. That will be #2.

The Front by Patricia Cornwell - Urgh, what a struggle. I think it needed more story. Especially with the witchy grandma. It left me wanting.

Next in my line up: The Vampire of Venice Beach by Jennifer Colt. I'm on chapter two and loving it! Even if it would appear to not be real vamps. HEHE

(kneeling and asking for absolution) Forgive me father for I have sinned--I read book 4 of my Mercy THompson series yesterday (I've been WAITING for that to get here, and just could not resist it. Hey, Adam and Samuel twisted my arms--who can resist such yummy Alpha were-wolves?) But I am being stern with myself today and reading a new author. Sigh, but its book 1 of a series. Rats, rats, rats, I can already tell I'm going to want to read the REST of the series right away.

Remember Oz--I want the Venice Beach book just as soon as you finish it. You know, leave scorch marks on your hands as I grab it away from you. :o)

Finally done with my first. Took me a day longer than I expected. I liked the book, and am now looking forward to reading the rest of the series (but it'll have to take a backseat to the other two series I'm already reading for now).

And I'm another Vampire Academy fan. It's very well-written for a YA, and I can't wait for the 4th to come out this year.

Since I abandoned Witchling as a selection I replaced it and added my 9th selection.

Oh, all books will be put aside when Bone Crossed finally arrives at my door. Nothing can keep me from Mercy, Adam and Samuel (not to mention Stefan), and I feel no guilt in that admission. ;D

Huh, I quite liked Blue Moon. I've only read the first two in Handeland's Nightcreatures series, but I did enjoy them (and really liked the first in her new series, Any Given Doomsday). What about Blue Moon didn't you like?
