Because I ride the train to work, I have two 35 minute "reading periods" built into each day. I have been reading every post for a while now and because of that my "to read" list has practically doubled! I know that I am posting my list late in the year but I am well on my way to the 75 book goal and would like to share what I have read.

1. 11/22/63 by Stephen King
I read this on Kindle because at over 800 pages, I was not going to drag this around on the train. A man goes back in time to stop the Kennedy from being shot. The premise was good and it started out very fast paced. Stephen King writes very well. I just felt that the book went on way to long.

I ordered a bunch of Christmas theme books from the library in December and didn't get them until January. Most of them were okay, but very fluffy. The two best were Remembering Christmas and Mauve Binchy's short story collection, This Year Will be Different.

9. Almost Like Being in Love by Steve Kluger
I like this author's books. they are light but involve strong friendships. Not considered great literature but a lot of fun.

10. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua
A lot was written and discussed about this book when it first came out. I didn't agree with everything she said, but it was a fast, interesting read.

11. Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks
The story is a fictional account of the first Native American to attend Harvard in 1665. I really liked some of this author's other books and I really wanted to like this one. It just fell flat for me.

12. The Beach Trees by Karen White
About rebuilding a beach house after Katrina. It was okay.

13. prayer does it make a difference by yancey, philip
I found this informative and easy to read.

14. Dance Upon The Air by Nora Roberts
15. Heaven and Earth by Nora Roberts
16. Face the Fire by Nora Roberts
Trilogy about modern day witches trying to save the island where they live. Pure escapism.

17. Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth by Richard J. Foster
This was a re-read during Lent. It is about spiritual practices, meditation, fasting, etc. And how to implement them in your life.

18. Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy
One of those chick lit stories that are fast and easy to read.

19. Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts
20. Dance of the Gods by Nora Roberts
21. Valley of Silence by Nora Roberts
Trilogy about saving the world from vampires. not thought provoking, but fun to read.

22. Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner
This story did not center on weight issues as much of some of her other works. An okay book.

23. The Bird Sisters by Rebecca Rasmussen
The story of two spinster sisters and why they never married. Creative.

24. Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin
The story was okay but I didn't enjoy it as much as some of the author's other books.

25. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
YA book. about a girl in a coma who is trying to decide if she should live. A touching story and definitely worth reading.

26. Lethal by Sandra Brown
I like a good thriller and this book certainly delivered that!

27. Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult
This has all the elements that Picoult is known for. What I liked most about this book is the way she incorporated information about wolves into the story.

28. Other Voices, Other Rooms by Truman Capote
I have been making it a goal to read all of Capote's works. Not my favorite, but the writing is excellent.

29. Never Wave Goodbye by Doug Magee
I liked the premise of this book. A mother puts her daughter on the bus for summer camp. A half hour later the real camp bus shows up. A good, suspenseful story although the subplots were a bit annoying.

30. Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
I like stories based in the south and though it wasn't the best I ever read, I did enjoy it.

31. Summer Sisters by Judy Blume
Two girls from different backgrounds become friends. Average.

32. What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson
I had read one of this author's other books. I really enjoyed the story.

33. Sister by Rosamund Lupton
I am not a big fan of mysteries, but I must say that I thought this was one of the best mysteries I have ever read. NThere was more than one twist that I never saw coming.

34. The Year that Everything Changed by Georgia Bockoven
This book was an okay read. One of those books that helped pass the time while commuting on the train.

35. The Tiger's Wife by Téa Obreht
THis was a dense book. I had trouble keeping straight the connections between people. It was well written, but I felt like I just didn't get the point.

36. Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger
I like Weisberger's books because they read quickly and everyone has fabulous clothes. Shallow, yes I know.

37. Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel
I had trouble really getting into this book. I didn't like or hate the main characters, I was just indifferent to them.

38. The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch
Powerful and moving. I have wanted to get around to reading this book. I am glad that I did.

39. The Most Dangerous Thing by Laura Lippman
Not a lot happens in this book, but I really got sucked in. I like the way Lippman writes.

40. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
41. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
42. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
I liked them all, but I thought the first was the best and most original.

43. Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George
Retelling of the 12 Dancing Princesses. I am told that Entwined (which is on my to read list) is a better retelling of the story. Still, I enjoyed this book.

44. The Adults by Alison Espach
One of those books about all the bad things that go on behind closed doors in an affluent suburb. I found it to be a little boring.

45. Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger
Another Weisberger book where all the women aare either attractive or incredibly attractive and they all have great clothes!

46. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
A moving story with a haunting ending. I kept thinking about this book long after I finished it.

47. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg
this was a re-read but it has been several years. I enjoy the strong women characters and the setting in the south.

48. Backseat Saints by Joshilyn Jackson
I enjoy Jackson's writing and this book had some interesting elements but I liked her other books better.

49. Mrs. Kimble by Jennifer Haigh
There are actually three Mrs. Kimbles and the story is told from each of their point of view. Excellent writing. I really enjoyed reading this book.

50. Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
YA story of a 15 year old girl's death and afterlife. More upbeat than it sounds. I read this quickly and really enjoyed it.

51. The Color Purple by Alice Walker
I don't know why I never read this before. An incredible, moving story.

52. Princess Ben by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
A fantasy tale, although the main character is not your typical fairy tale princess. She is short, has frizzy hair and a weight problem. I enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun.

53. The Killer of Little Shepherds: A True Crime Story and the Birth of Forensic Science by Douglas Starr
A fascinating book about a serial killer in 1890's France and how he was caught using forensic evidence.

54. Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen
A hilarious memoir about the author's childhood and how it helped her (or not) handle her problems as an adult.

55. Heidiby Johanna Spyri

Ah a re-read from my childhood.

56. The Priest's Graveyardby Ted Dekker
Not sure how I feel about this book. It was a page turner, but some of the characters did not feel realistic.

57. The Man in the Queueby Josephine Tey
I am not a big mystery fan and there isn't a lot of drama or action in Tey's books, but I like the quiet way the detective solves the mystery.

58. The Glass Castleby Jeannette Walls
I would not say this is a book that I enjoyed, but it was well written and it kept my interest. The way the author overcame her background is inspiring.

59. Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
Great children's book about a boy and the dog that he would like to be his.

60. A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park
I would think that this book would be a little dry for children. An orphaned boy in Korea in the 12th Century becomes a potter.
