Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

Mr. R’s first review of the year

really liked it
Dark, hypnotic, and well-written. Although I've watched the movie several times, I've never read the book until now. The narrative was interesting to follow, and the descriptions did a great job of putting me directly into the scenes. A Haunting in Venice by Agatha Christie

Mr. R’s last review of the year

did not like it
I don't mean to offend any Agatha Christie fans, but this book was an absolute bore and very difficult to finish. The plot is lackluster. Detective Hercule Poirot spends every chapter interviewing people in a slow, unexciting way. I didn't care about any of the characters to have an emotional connection to the reveal by the end. I also feel completely bait-and-switched by the publishing company. Originally published as Hallowe'en Party, none of t ...more
