This is fiction during the times of Edward II and Edward III. It is told from the point of view of Eleanor, the wife of Hugh le Despenser, who was a favourite of Edward II for a while. This was published in 2012, so long before COVID-19. “Spillover� looks at various infections that cross over from other animals to humans. It delves into the history of those infections and how and when they first crossed over and from what animals. The author met with scientists and researchers and goes into detail about how scientists traced back to find those first cross-overs.
