By the end, this book has some very profound things to say about love. It’s a shame it was such a boring, terrible slog to get there

This book ultimately fails as a romance because so little time was spent on it. It also fails as a political thriller because the politics is just a thing happens to the characters, not something they influence or shape in any way. really liked it
This book had some pretty bad plot/pacing issues in the beginning of the book, a few instances of new characters coming out of nowhere and then majorly affecting the plot in the last 60 or so, a somewhat rushed ending, as well as Cortez’s character being essentially useless and very one note, but damn, this book has very strong emotional resonance when it hits the beat right. It should be a 3.5, but goodreads doesn’t allow half stars, and I like ...more
