The vivid depiction of VOC regime in Indonesia is well-written. Bumi Manusia is one of the best Indonesian classic literature ever made. It showcases oppression faced by "pribumi" or Indonesian during the occupation of Dutch in Indonesia. It also tell you the story of "gundik" or Indonesian second wives of the Dutch people.
