My wife bought this for me for Christmas as it was a book she read in high school and was moved by. It has a fairly good story, occasionally great imagery, and indeed a moving ending, but it felt a little unnatural for me to read. It is a fine translation, but because I know Japanese, it feels just a little off to read the book in English knowing they are Japanese kids not speaking English in the original text. This was a re-read, this time on audio by . The audiobook was fantastic and very professionally-done. It added to my enjoyment a lot. I would say I liked the book more than the first time (where it hovered between two and three stars), but not significantly more.
