I was overall disappointed in this collection of short stories (there was a novella at the end that I did not read....). 21 short stories and the 63-page novella...

All of the stories had a character or somebody that a character knew dying. A number of them dying in a war (WWI or WWII)...a number of them from tuberculosis. I read her next collection of stories, A Breathless Child and Other Stories (1952) about three weeks before these stories, and

it was ok
I didn’t like this novel by Kate O’Brien all that much. The main man in the novel, Tom, spent an afternoon with a young woman, Angele, along with a bunch of other people (they went on a picnic)....and at the end he declared his love to her, and she declared her love for him, and was willing to throw away her acting career, which was just taking off and a vocation which she enjoyed, and to live on a farm with him and bear his children.
