Maame is just trying to find joy and not be so sad all the time. It's too relatable. In other news, her Mom is a really shitty person though. A shitty wife/widow and mother. It's kinda wild. The toxicity of Ghanaian/African parents is so accurate in this novel lol

But one thing i found unconvincing was how Maddie didn't quite get various forms of micro-aggressions in the romantic realm. Like, if you're well-read, shouldn’t you pick up on these things? Idk...
