The fascinating part is how history served up all these delicious events that I could use for the Order of the Rose. Justice of the Root came from the last chapter of The Hidden Rose. It hinges on the arrival in London of Sir Jasper of York, bringing word of rebellion. Justice of the Root covers the same time as The Hidden Rose up to Jasper's arrival and then moves forward from there.

Almost anything can inspire me - a song, a phrase, even a picture or an ad. Back to a previous answer - I jot it down, or add it to my idea folder on my computer - let it simmer about in the brain and eventually it either becomes its own story or it joins with another.

I am currently working on Justice of the Root - second in The Order of the Rose series. It takes place in York, London, and there's a rude awakening for an English Rose when he travels to Bayonne.

Always carry a small notebook and pen. Jot down ideas as they come to you. Trust me - you'll forget and it will drive you nuts!
Don't force a story. Your readers will know. If it's not flowing, step back, work on something else.
Try to be consistent - a certain time every day for even thirty minutes gives you discipline.
Move - exercise isn't just good for the body. It helps clear your mind and let the stories flow through you. (was that too much like Yoda?)

The emotions the characters put me through. They run the gamut - the most selfless love to the most greedy traitor.
And I love getting the details right. When a reader tells me - I felt like I was in Elizabeth's court and it was jarring to stop reading - that's when I know I did my 'job' as a storyteller.

I'm not sure I'd call it writer's block. More like I'm not understanding what the character is telling me, or I'm listening to the wrong one for a scene. In most cases, I get away from the computer and get outside for a walk, or play with my cats and listen to music. When I come back, the situation has usually sorted itself out.

Middle Earth! I'm a huge Hobbit/Lord of the Rings fan. I'm short, have very curly hair and love to garden, so I think I'd make an excellent hobbit. :) Except for the feet. I'm not too crazy about the hairy feet part.
