Rashers Tierney is an itinerant lecturer and anthropologist of note, presenting seminars across North America on all things Irish.

His earth-shattering PhD thesis on "Flatulence in Finnegan's Wake" has been hailed as the work that "blew apart" the clique-ish inner circle of Joycean scholarship.

He is currently at work on a study entitled "Brogue mo thóin," a controversial volume on the connections between the ancient Irish craft of shoemaking and renowned Gaelic curses.

Dear Barbara,

Please note that it is extremely rare to meet a real leprechaun... Most of them you meet at parties and at St. Patrick's Day parades are imposters! Beware: do NOT go back to their place to "gaze upon my pot of gold."

Under no circumstances consume any substance they offer you that they refer to as "lucky charms." These pseudo leprechauns are part of the infamous Darby O'Gill criminal organization, operational along the East coast from Maine to Florida.

So, pretend you have to call your bookie about the results of the 3PM at Santa Ana and disengage from the conversation as soon as possible. Details of how to deal with genuine leprechaun encounters are too complex to explain here but are covered in my new book "F*ck You I'm Irish" available now as an ebook on Amazon.com...

Yours,

Rashers Tierney, author and itinerant anthropologist(less)

“The Irish way of telling a story is a complex and elaborate one, complete with wild exaggerations, a certain delight in improbable fantasy, and a heightened sense of drama.”
Rashers Tierney, F*ck You, I'm Irish: Why We Irish Are Awesome

“To be certain you're consuming the real deal, look carefully at the label. W-h-i-s-k-e-y indicates the heavenly liquid from the Emerald Isle. Without the "e," it's from Scotland or some other godforsaken place.”
Rashers Tierney, F*ck You, I'm Irish: Why We Irish Are Awesome

“In the 1870s it was estimated that a third of all the money in the Irish economy came from money sent by kindhearted Irish servant girls to their families. The Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank in New York alone would send more than $30 million to Ireland between 1850 and 1880. Many families in Ireland owed their survival to what they gratefully called the "American Letter," a lifeline that helped them cope with brutal poverty and lack of opportunity.”
