Growing Up With Kaylee-My Little Cupcake Turned Two!

I can't believe it, my little cupcake turned two years old last month! Everyone told me it would go by fast and they were right! You really have to cherish every moment. My husband said, "Next thing you know she will be driving a car!" Don't say that, not yet!

We built up the event for Kaylee by reading her lots of birthday themed books. A great list can be found at the Children's Group I am a member of here on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/5...

We sent out Yo Gabba Gabba evites which are convenient and free.
We had the party at Nana's & Papa's; it is the usual family hangout.
We had such a good time on her birthday! She is a fan of the show Yo Gabba Gabba. Naturally, I thought a Gabba party would be perfect. Little did I know I would end up making most everything, because you can't readily find Gabba items at any store. Hey Nickelodean, if you are reading this you may consider doing so! My husband had fun helping me with some necessary computer projects. Thankfully Nick Jr provides free printables and projects ideas too. These helped me get creative and make some ideas of my own.

It took some work, but it was well worth the effort. The kids had so much fun with it. We all did! I got the idea for Kaylee's cake from a very essential website for Gabba party planners. I had never used fondant before and was very nervous. It wasn't as hard as I thought and I managed to fit it right the first try. I made the cake using fondant I bought at Michael's with a 40% off coupon. Next time, I will try this recipe for marshmallow fondant which sounds very easy, supposed to be delicious, and is a fraction of the cost.
I also used white cake mix and added food coloring for separate colors to pour together which made for a very cool effect when it was cut into. Kaylee enjoyed mixing the different colors. The cupcakes were a blast to make as well. I invited my sister over and we decorated them together. We knew what the characters looked like and just went with it. They turned out very nice, people thought I bought the goodies. The toddlers were so cute trying so hard to look, but not touch!

The kids got a real kick out of the character masks. Since they are all toddlers, I decided to cut out a stick from cardboard instead of trying to put rubber bands on their little ears. They wouldn't have that! We had an "Birthday" egg hunt. This was so much fun for everyone. I filled the eggs with raisins, graham cracker bunnies, cheddar bunnies, and stickers. We took out the bubble machine which I had posted about before finding it at Joann's fabrics and using a 50% coupon. That little machine was worth every penny. Pin the ball on Plex was another winner. We pumped up the music and let the kiddies have a dance party. We found a balloon animal making kit for under $3.00 at Walgreens. I have spotted them a few other places too. My husband made the kids flowers, turtles, ladybugs and dogs. My sister made these really awesome felt characters which I know took her forever to make. Kaylee adores them!

The Preserve dinnerware we owned and just so happen to be the perfect color for a Gabba party. It is eco friendly and I feel better knowing I am not wasting. You just have to remember to announce to your guests not to throw it away. Not to worry though, after a couple parties they remember on their own.

When all was said and done, there was only two things that mattered, Kaylee's smile and laughter. I hope you enjoyed reading and seeing pics of Kaylee's party, I have certainly enjoyed sharing it!
