Patrick LeClerc makes good use of his history degree by working as a paramedic for an ever- changing parade of ambulance companies in the Northern suburbs of Boston. When not writing he enjoys cooking, fencing and making witty, insightful remarks with career-limiting candor.

In the lulls between runs on the ambulance --and sometimes the lulls between employment at various ambulance companies-- he writes fiction.

All the versions, from the Charles Addams cartoons to the 1960s TV show to the movies from the 1990s.

Other contenders would be Terry Pratchett's Moist von Lipwig and Adora Belle Dearheart. Two characters who really challenge and compliment one another. Practchett's books are a bit absurd, but there's a lot of tructh shining through, and his relationships are no exception. Sam Vimes and Lady Sybil are in the running for the same reason.

These are all fairly rare examples of couples that are partnerships, not just people who fall into a whirlwind romance, but who play off one another and change one another and grow to be more than the sum of their parts.

Review of "Terminus Rex" by Kevin Wright

In the fourth installment of the Serpent Knight Saga, we follow our cynical, disreputable protagonist Sir Luther Slythe Krait and his barbarian companion Karl into the cold grey wastelands. Searching for a man to fulfill his promise to a dying friend, his quest has led him to travel with the Teutonic Knights in one of their Crusades against the pagan tribes of Eastern Europe.

“Well, people don’t call themselves, so calls between numbers indicate separate individuals. People who don’t like one another don’t talk for a long time. Just quick calls when they need to talk. Friends stay on the line for a long time. Single numbers that are connected to multiple names probably mean an alias. Somebody who carries one phone but goes by several names. Lets the calls go to voice mail, then figures out who they wanted and calls back. Or uses text so the voice isn’t a giveaway.”

Topics Mentioning This Author

“The first draft of anything is shit.”
Ernest Hemingway

“Do you know what it's like to run spellcheck for six hours? It's like a party in purgatory. A party in purgatory where all they have to drink is sugar-free Kool-aid, and the only game to play is Monopoly, and none of your friends show up.”
Patrick Rothfuss

“The first draft is your “vomit onto the keyboardâ€ draft, wherein your task is to simply keep moving and outrun your doubts.”
Sean Platt, Write. Publish. Repeat.

“I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”
Smedley D. Butler, War Is a Racket

“In the last room before we came to another open hallway, there was a goose. Bones littered the floor of the goose room. Even the golem gave it a wide berth as it softly honked in warning at us. "What's with the goose?" Cord asked. The golem shrugged. "He was already here. No one wants to fuck with him.”
Clayton Snyder, River of Thieves
