Jon Clinch鈥檚 first novel, Finn鈥攖he secret history of Huckleberry Finn鈥檚 father鈥攚as named an American Library Association Notable Book and was chosen as one of the year鈥檚 best books by The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Chicago Tribune. His second novel, Kings of the Earth, was named a Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post and led the 2010 Summer Reading List at O, The Oprah Magazine. A native of upstate New York, Jon lives with his wife in the Green Mountains of Vermont.

Russell Hoban鈥檚 Riddley Walker came at me from out of the blue. What are some historical fiction novels you just adore? Thanks for your kind words. Have you read E.L. Doctorow's THE MARCH? Or Robert Coover's HUCK OUT WEST?

I was wondering if you could tell us how it is you came to come up with the books concept and how long it took you to write it? Not as long as it took me to discover your ancient message, I'm sorry to say. In general, a novel takes me a year or so to manage. Thanks for asking.
