I believe the art of retelling can help carry us forward in a big game of telephone. It’s a game that’s been going on for hundreds of years, helping people through some very hard times. And you can help fairy tales now.

Kate has four new short stories in the current issue of (49/3, Winter 2019/20), including “Diamonds,�� “�� (which the editors kindly published online as a sample from the print issue), “S O N I C Y O U T H,�� and “Girls Riding Horses on Cliffs by the Ocean or Sea.�� These are from a dream-like story collection in progress, and feature Jewish heroines such as Anne Frank, Barbra Streisand, Fanny Brice, and Anna Pavlova.

Big news! Fairy Tale Architecture has been accepted for a show at the AIANY in New York City. Exhibition dates are August ��20 thru November ��20 with specific opening and closing dates still to come. Andy and Kate are hard at work with Andy’s firm getting ready for this giant honor for the ongoing series at . Kate and Andy will offer at least one public lecture as part of the show, which will feature art from the series including drawings, models, and interactive media.

Along with her brother, Andrew Bernheimer, Kate has curated three new installments to the ongoing Fairy Tale Architecture series at Places. Bernheimer Architecture was paired with the Taoist story ; Mary English and Xavier Vendrell with Antonio Robles�� variation on Little Red Riding Hood “��; and LTL Architects with a Slavic tale called

appears in Spacecraft, a journal Kate has admired for a long time.

Kate was interviewed, along with Aimee Bender, Kellie Wells, and others, for an article called “Writing Magical Realism: The Ultimate Guide,�� which appeared in The Writer Magazine. You can read it .

A little belatedly announcing the wonderful news that Office at Night, which Kate co-authored with Laird Hunt, was a 2015 nominee for the very cool in the “Novelette�� category. Office at Night is a response to Edward Hopper’s iconic painting, and was a co-commission of Walker Art Center and Coffee House Press. Please join Kate at (on The University of Texas in Austin campus) Thursday, September 17, 2015, from 6:30 PM �� 7:30 pm. She’s appearing in their “Perspectives�� series to talk about the exhibit “The Brothers Grimm.�� (One of Kate’s favorite scholars, fairy-tale hero Jack Zipes, wrote the introduction to the recently published book collecting 75 of Frank’s Grimm drawings.) Admission on Thursdays is free.

Kate is honored to be traveling to Southeast Missouri State University as the next week, where she will visit classes and offer a public presentation �� of and about fairy tales, of course! �� on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m.

Along with the phenomenal author Ander Monson, Kate will be reading at the on January 22, 2015, 7 p.m. Ander will be handing out a limited edition card from his cool new book to the first 250 audience members to arrive at the reading, so come early!
