“Fookin' Irish, they're a race of political masochists, they love their fookin' chiefs and princes an' a strong hand belting. It's like the man said in the play, Abair and focal republic i nGaoluinn?”
Gwyneth Jones, Castles Made of Sand

“They went and found somewhere, and had a sorting out, nothing held back. Sometimes nothing less than savage discharge can express, can explain, can release the hard, hard place we're in.”
Gwyneth Jones, Rainbow Bridge

“ ‘What can we do about the refugee situation? It’s one of the worst problems Europe faces, or so it seems from our perspective. Do you have any ideas?â€  ‘Are you kidding?â€ ‘No I am not kidding. I’m not in the mood for kidding.â€ ‘Okay, then rebuild the countries that the refugee hordes are fleeing. I don’t even know if it’s possible. The environmental devastation is beyond belief, in some places: I’ve seen it. But you could try.”
Gwyneth Jones, Midnight Lamp
