A Minute with Manx

Hello dear friends,
I must confess that I am new to this and have never written a blog post before. So, just as you are reading mine for the first time, I am breaking new ground in a similar way.
I wanted to start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and then dive right in. My thoughts today, as they are on most days, are centered on writing. Which is fortunate since, on most days, I consider myself a writer.
I have just published a novella called, Piece by Piece, which is about a boy who learns the exact year that he is going to die. This life altering message is delivered to him through a Ouija board. (Shouldn't it be an Ouija board?) just asking. Naturally, this news is something that profoundly impacts my story's protagonist, Bobby Canfield, as the unforeseeable future raced toward him.
I bring this up, because this story is based on something that happened to me as a child. You see, I too was told when I was young, the exact age I would die. And yes, that information was given to me through a(an) Ouija board, and might I add, three possibly cruel little girls.
In my own case the board did not specify a year, but it did reveal an age, 40, to be exact.
Needless to say, from that moment on, not a day passed where I didn't reflect on the possibility that I would die when I was 40.
Well, I am soon to be 55 and needless to say, I didn't die at 40. However, I was more than just a little bit concerned until that year had passed. But Bobby Canfield isn't quite as lucky as I was, and that is the premise of the book. Most of the time the stories I write are based on my own experiences. Sometimes they are based on my thoughts and reflections as I observe others. But I think the best ones, the ones that really bring forth an emotional impact, are the ones I have lived. When I can fully relate to the emotion that I am putting for on the page, I know that am in the zone.
This event is one of the things in my life that I would have labeled slightly paranormal, even in the realms of supernatural, even though it was probably just a cruel joke that my neighbors pulled on me.
So, if you are reading this and you care to weigh in, "What supernatural/paranormal events have happened to you? Have you ever seen a ghost, or have you ever used a(an) Ouija board?" I am curious.
I enjoyed sharing and I look forward to doing this again, soon. Daemon

Perry Lake I did the Ouija (wee-juh, since it's a combination of the French and German words for yes) thing as a part of a psychic research group. It was a fantastic experience and it prompted my Cassiopeia series.

I had no idea that was where the word came from.

Thank you very much. Still trying to navigate the platform and not really getting it. Slowly I guess.
