Sarah has traveled extensively throughout her life, living in other cultures, sometimes in areas where electricity was a concept awaiting fruition and a book was an extreme luxury. While she could easily adjust to the lack of electricity, living without the comfort of a good book was intolerable. To fill the void, she bought pencil and paper and sketched out her own story. In the process, Sarah discovered the joy of writing.

Sarah writes what she loves to read; fast paced stories with vivid dialogue, intense emotion and well developed characters. Her attention to detail in her stories has earned her multiple awards and a reserved spot on Keeper shelves everywhere.

Sarah writes for Ellora's Cave, Harlequin HQN, Harlequin SPICE, Berkley HEAT and Berkley SENSATION.

Was this ever good! The setting was absolutely phenomenal! McCarty writes a western so exceptionally well you'd think she lived during the time and came back to tell everyone about it. And then there’s the sex! Scorcher, scorcher, burns-right-off-the-paper scorcher and ick-free to boot! She has THE best oral sex scene with Elly on the kitchen table that I've ever read! Good god you have to remember to breathe when all is said and done ;)

Asa, the hero with the weird name, is soooooo beautiful inside and out. They do not come any better. His “darlin’ this and “darlin’ that just had me swooning right through the book. He is a paragon of hotness this honey is 8)

You've got the good guys and the bad guys, a feisty heroine, some really sad stories but none have the sudden problem or misunderstanding that you often know is coming up or just general stupidity that you sometimes get with erotica. There is also no hello-left-field "filler sex" which makes the story even better.

And the ending! Sigh, sigh, sigh, well my heart skipped a few beats, it was so perfect.

Two things I didn’t like about this book was the cheesy cover (which was probably a reason why I wasn’t that eager to read it) and that it weighs 10 tons what with the nicer Ellora’s Cave paper. But that aside, this is one cowboy romance that gets you right at the beginning, has sticky-hot steam and tells a mighty fine love story :)

Me gustó.

For the life of me I couldn’t get into this book. For a story set in 1868, the writing style of the characters and the speech felt very modern and unrealistic.
And not to mention how sexist this book was sometimes.

I’m sorry, but I won’t continue with this.

5 plus stars!!

Wow! This book was amazing. I can’t believe I waited so long to read it! It was everything I could have hoped for. SUPER steamy and erotic (that one scene in the middle nearly killed me, LOL!), but with a deeply satisfying romance you can really sink your teeth into.

The plot was well rounded, with just enough mystery to keep things interesting without overshadowing the romance.

The sex scenes were appropriately placed and with just the right amount of detail (In other words, a LOT!) That Asa sure knows how to get a girl all worked up: slow and easy, taking his sweet time until you’re just about wild with anticipation. Whew!

But even better than the way he loved Elizabeth’s body was the way he treasured her heart and soul. I loved how protective and caring he was, and how he shielded her from anything that would cause her physical or emotional harm. Asa is hard as nails, yet soft and tender too. A well-rounded man.

I really liked Elizabeth as well. She had spirit and determination, yet there was a vulnerability about her that made her relatable and very real.

I only wish I could have gotten more of a happy ending for this couple…an epilogue, maybe. But I hope I’ll get a glimpse of their future in the next 3 books in the series. I was SO excited to see that Cougar will have his love story next. *happy dance!* He certainly deserves it.

And let me tip my hat to Sarah McCarty. Nothing irritates me more than having secondary characters monopolize a story. I don’t want to have multiple chapters told in the POV of a secondary character; that’s what their own story is for. I LOVED how Sarah brought in a character such as Cougar and made you love him, while still keeping the focus on Asa and Elizabeth. The entire story is told from either Asa or Elizabeth’s POV, and the secondary characters are there only when they interact with the main couple. Now THAT’S the way to write a series!!

I can’t wait to read the rest of this fantastic series!

What a piece of ______. This book is $10 for kindle and $18 for paperback, you’d think that there is something to like about it. First don’t buy it because its historical romance. It is modern day illiterate people in 19th century environment. The entire book is terrible. I read the whole thing because I wanted to get to the part that costs $10 to read, well I finished it and that part isn’t there. Second do not buy it because it is listed as erotica, unless u just like crude words, there is no sensuality or any kind of build up, we go from having sex to being shy and not knowing what to do even though we did it 2days ago. Give me a break; it was too frustrating for words. I will list some of the language used as well. I am not sure how the people in the 19th century spoke in the wild west but I highly doubt those words were used, if so my apologies. I am not saying that a book should be accurate but since you market something as historical you have to bring the historical part somewhere.

So here it goes:
1. gadding
2. piddlin
3. prissy
4. gnat
5. spout
6. hockey
7. miscreant
8. “buttering me up
9. “give her points for pluck
10. vociferous (this was so out of place with the rest of the language used)
11. “milked her nipples also used numerous times and all I could think was a cow, srsly?!?!?
12. “fuck my face ?!?!?!?
13. sparkin (this was used about 10 times in the book)
14. “Uh-huh this is present on almost every page
15. “You are somethin’ also abused through the book

At the end of the book I still haven’t a clue what half those things meant and the ones I listed are just those I remember there is much more to be had of the same.

I apologize if my vocabulary fails to appreciate such language and you all love it.

quality American FRONTIER SMUT ft. distrustful lady in crisis x good ruffian 🤠🌶 all he wants is a homestead & a wife!

”What she didn’t know was that he’d dreamed his whole life of a home of his own, a lady for a wife, and the respect that came with both.

Elizabeth walks into a bar with a gun in her hand & one single goal…marry the local gunslinger to save her ranch! She lives in a man’s Wild West and has had a rough childhood so the last thing she expects is a caring husband that thinks she’s THE TITS! Elizabeth and Asa slowly build trust in each other while having raunchy barn encounters

💛 Western romance with lots of greasy characters

🐴 SPICY sex on horseback

💛 fmc only thinks she lost her virginity on her wedding night but he doesn’t know how to tell her that’s not the case.

🐴 he falls first!

💛 mmc loves her cooking & eats everything!

I adored Asa aka Wild Knight in shining armor! He was incredible and this man just wanted to own a homestead & love his wife and children 🐣 He never thought he stood a chance with a lady and when Elizabeth proposed marriage he was so excited. Give me a hardworking rancher any day of the week!

The book needs a bit of a polish but perhaps that’s just a sign of its age. Some of the dialogue is needlessly long and should be cut for better flow. The tiny bit of racism 👀 And no Epilogue? JAIL!

Loved Asa and just an all around good story with A great heroine too. I loved the beginning the story where she meets Asa at the saloon. She was definitely feisty. He protected her and I loved how good He was to her even when she made it hard. There's someone sabotaging her ranch and trying to ruin her. Then comes Asa who helps her put her life back together. There's a scene on a horse that I found pretty unbelievable. Lol. Very 'porny'! Safe story.

I'm not sure I would have gotten around to reading this one if I hadn't picked up the MMP of the 4th book in the series. And I didn't want to read that one until I caught up on the rest of the series. This was a good book, though. I think I may have enjoyed it more if I'd been able to read it in print or on an e-reader instead of sitting at my desk reading on my desktop. This is a hefty ebook at 280 pages and I couldn't seem to get in the mood to sit here reading for hours, despite enjoying the book.

Promises Linger is the first book in Sarah McCarty's erotic historical western Promises series. Elizabeth Coyote was brought up rough by her father, who wanted a son instead of a daughter. He taught her ranching and was never shy in showing his displeasure with her. Then he later sent her to a girl's school where she was taught to be a Lady, and never let to forgot her supposed sins. Now her father is dead and in order to save her ranch, she much must marry. Her first choice was a bad one and luckily she was able to void the marriage. Now she turns her eye to gunslinger Asa MacIntyre.

Asa has always wanted a home and a sweet woman of his own after growing up rough. Now such a woman has almost literally fallen in his lap, and he gets a ranch to go along with it. Asa swears he will protect Elizabeth and do his best to save her ranch. But no matter what he does, he can't seem to break through Elizabeth's walls. Her edicts confuse him and they seem to always be misunderstanding each other. He has no plans of giving up, though. He'll figure his sweet wife out eventually.

One of the first things I can say about this book is that the sex is SMOKIN' hot. Whew! McCarty doesn't pull any punches when it comes to sensuality and sexuality in her books. And even though there are a fair amount of sex scenes in this book, I didn't find them to be boring or repetitive. McCarty makes each scene different and unique so that you don't mind reading them.

The language tends to be more modern than period-accurate when it comes to the sex scenes, but I don't mind that. I think it actually makes the book more readable, if less period correct. So for me, the modern language is a plus rather than a minus.

I loved the character of Asa. He's Alpha without being brutish or Uber. He had a lot of patience dealing Elizabeth's and was rather sweet at times. He was just a hero that was enjoyable to read. Elizabeth, on the other hand, frustrated me at times. I found her a bit confusing with her thinking one way, acting another, saying something else. I never really got a clear understanding of her character.

Which, considering the book is mostly about the H/H and their relationship, decreased my enjoyment a little. I actually kinda wished the slight suspense angle - about who was sabotaging the ranch - had gotten more attention in the book. It would have given the story some diversity. Instead, it was more of a sidenote.

I still liked the book a lot though. Historical erotic romance is one of my favorite genres to read and this was a good one, though probably not a favorite. For anyone considering this book, it's not one for dainty sensibilities. The sex is very in your face. But if you don't mind that, and you like historical westerns, then this might be a good book for you to try.

Warning, this book contains: explicit sex, explicit language, sex on a horse, anal sex, and slightly rough sex

Even if you don't care for historical novels, if you like a good story, you'll love Sarah McCarty's Promises Linger.

The setting and time in history are irrelevant when you have two characters who are each in awe of the other, and who see themselves as completely unworthy of the other person's trust, loyalty, and affection.

What begins as a 'marriage of convenience' becomes a beautiful and sensuous love affair between Asa and Elizabeth. McCarty's narratives and dialog for sexual scenes is graphic, but tasteful. That may sound like an oxymoron, but the reader will not find the language nor the sex to be gratuitous or salacious. It really fits in the story.

The story is as much a sleuth mystery as a romance. Someone is trying to force Elizabeth's ranch into bankruptcy. She needs a real man like Asa to stop them.

When I first picked up Promises Linger, I was discouraged by it's length (432 trade-size pages) and the size of the type (9 or 10-pt.), making it a very long book. Too often, very long books are filled with unnecessary flotsam and jetsam that do nothing to make the story complete. This is not the case with Promises Linger. I cannot think of one passage that I would edit out. The plot is solid and well-executed. The characters have depth and the reader will come away knowing and liking Asa and Elizabeth.

I am looking forward to getting my eyes on the sequels and .

I did not care for all the arguing, miscommunication, misunderstanding and verbal sparing from the h/h. Asa's character was sweet, very honest and direct. Elizabeth had a lot of emotional (childhood) issues and her character was annoying as I felt those issues dragged out for the entire length of the book. Sometimes I wished she'd just shut her darn mouth!

There were some portions of the writing that did not make sense to me and once again some dialogue was written in a way that it was hard to determine who was actually speaking. Some scenes were way too long, i.e., stitches, banking, dining in the restaurant, and I thought those could have been edited down abit to help move the story along.

This was a long book--422 pages, but only a few pages were actually full.

I'm usually not big on historical books but this western kicked ass.

Asa is one hot gunslinger who dreams of getting himself a ranch and a wife. Elizabeth is desperate...as a single women she has no hope of hanging on to her family ranch. She needs a husband, pronto. Asa is at the right spot at the right time and does not hesitate.

What I loved the most about this story is Asa's sexy dirty mouth. He has a gentle heart and is determined to show Ellie how good sex can be. He just has to break down her lady-like sensibilities.

I REALLY struggled to get through this book. In fact, I ended up skimming roughly the last 20% of it. Asa is a sweet, like-able character, but Elizabeth is just a straight up bitch. She is aggressively contrary without reason. She treats Asa like crap, picks fights with anyone in her vicinity, and acts like an immature teenager who's not getting her way. Between the contrived misunderstandings, the constant miscommunications, and the unrelenting bickering, reading this book became so unpleasant it bordered on stressful for me, which is pretty hard to do.

While many erotic romance authors seem to fall into the trap of sacrificing story for sex, Sarah McCarty is one of the few who knows how to balance an engaging plot with great character development and scorching hot love scenes to create a beautiful story that's a pleasure to read. It is because of this deft combination that Ms. McCarty has become my current favorite erotic romance author and one of my overall favorite authors too. I had previously read and enjoyed some of her Hell's Eight novels. Promises Linger was my first read from her Promises series, and I'm pleased to say that it is her best book that I've read so far. I adored the characters, the plot was well-developed, and the love scenes were smokin'. What more could a romance lover ask for?;-)

When the story opens, Elizabeth marches into the saloon and stands down her “husband of only one day who stole her money and gave her a black eye. It was absolutely adorable how she was trying to maintain the prim and proper comportment she'd learned at her fancy finishing school back East while holding the man at gunpoint. Throughout the story this dichotomy comes into play frequently, and I loved the delicate balancing act that she performs between trying to be a perfect lady and reluctantly learning to embrace her naturally wild tendencies. Once she dispenses with the evil ex, she immediately offers herself and her ranch to Asa MacIntyre, a man she knows only by his reputation. Having been misinformed at her finishing school, Elizabeth thinks the marriage bed is nothing more than a duty and experiences extreme virginal jitters on her wedding night, but Asa was infinitely patient with her, trying to seduce her little by little. When she still wouldn't warm up to him and he was about ready to leave, not wanting to force the issue, she tells herself she needs to do it to keep him and to save her ranch. At that point, she takes matters in hand, doing something that surprises the heck out of him. Things didn't exactly go the way Asa had planned, but lucky for her, he's an incredibly generous lover who showed her what she was missing the next morning, and the way she responds is just too cute. On the outside, Elizabeth may be starched and buttoned up, always trying to maintain a steel grip of control, but inside, she's fiery and passionate. Lucky girl that she is, Asa is just the man to help her loosen up. Having been treated by her father like the son he never had, Elizabeth is unused to any softness in her life. She is wary of men, thinking that they all like to hit and treat women badly, so sadly, the gentleness and consideration that Asa shows her is a completely foreign concept to her. He constantly makes her feel off balance, like she never knows where she stands with him. Elizabeth may know how to behave like a gently bred lady, but Asa teaches her what it means to be a woman in more ways than one.

[Sigh] Asa is just to yummy for words. The man totally had me drooling for him and has more than earned a spot on my favorite romance heroes list. He may have had a rough upbringing, but he definitely knows how to treat a lady right. All he's ever wanted in life was a place to belong, a nice spread to call his own, and a wife to love and share it with. When Elizabeth offers her proposition, it's like all his dreams have come true in one fell swoop. Asa is immediately drawn to her spunky nature and understated beauty. In fact, he not only respects her feistiness, but finds it amusing. Asa is oh so sexy and just the kind of alpha hero I love. He positively oozes confidence and control and knows how to be dominating without being a jerk. He's the kind of alpha who gets his way through gentle persuasion rather than arrogantly imposing his will on others, namely Elizabeth. If anything, he's rather laid back but is very protective of anyone or anything he deems "his," and yet underneath he has a tender heart of gold. He's the type of man who understands how to use his own self-assurance to build a woman up, not tear her down. I love how Asa is protective of Elizabeth, not just physically, but also of her battered heart and psyche. He won't stand for anyone, not even someone she considers a friend, putting her down or causing her even the slightest bit of pain. Asa is also very intelligent and intuitive, reading between the lines of the things Elizabeth says (and doesn't say), as well as interpreting her moods and emotions to understand what she's really thinking. It was so sweet how Asa cleverly made Elizabeth think he was in control in an effort to put her at ease, when in a sense he was really giving her the reins. One example was when he told her that a man needed to be warmed up to enjoy love-making, so she wouldn't rush it. That scene was just too cute. I also adored the way he gently teased Elizabeth even though she didn't understand it at first. Asa was simply one of those scrumptious, devil-may-care cowboys who gives his all to the woman he loves and treats her like a precious jewel, and I absolutely loved him for it.

Promises Linger introduces a few key supporting players who become main characters in future books of the series. Cougar was another of those sexy, laid-back cowboys who definitely intrigues me. He's a half-breed who apparently has a reputation as being a rough, tough cowpoke on the outside, but inside has the heart of a romantic and believes in true love. Unfortunately, he's smitten with a woman who can't stand him and only wants his money. I'll be looking forward to reading his story, Promises Keep, which is the next in the series, and seeing him get his HEA with a woman who can appreciate him more. There is also Clint, one of the ranch hands on the Rocking C. He helps watch out for Elizabeth and we get a hint that he may have a thing for a woman Elizabeth has occasionally been helping. That lady, Jenna, is mentioned in the background of this book as dealing with a hard-drinking, abusive husband. Clint and Jenna become the hero and heroine of book #3, Promises Reveal.

Overall, Promises Linger was a wonderful read. It had all the things that make a romance enjoyable to me: a to-die-for hero, a spunky but emotionally damaged heroine, likable secondary characters, a tender story that tugs at the heartstrings, and steamy but tasteful love scenes. Need I say more?;-) It definitely has me eager to continue the Promises series, as well as get back to Hell's Eight and pick up more of Sarah McCarty's other works too.

Note: This book contains explicit language and sexual situations including anal sex, which may offend some readers.

While I enjoyed this story, I kind of feel that beyond the sex, there wasn't really anything new or interesting about the plot. It kept me interested enough to finish, but I don't know that I'm interested enough to pick up the next book in the series.

Elizabeth Coyote needs a husband to save her ranch - well, a new husband that is, since the man she was married to for one day turned out to be a thief and a gambler. At the advice of one of her men, she offers her ranch and her obedience to Asa MacIntyre. Asa has dreamed of having a home of his own, and the Rocking C is much more than he'd ever imagined. Added into the deal, he gets Elizabeth as his wife, and he's sold.

A spicy story with an adequate relationship, I give this one a B-.

I liked this H a lot and a lot. He is kind, sweet , nice . He teases the h into falling in love with him.He is an alpha yet when the h stands up to him , he listens to her. The best part was when he accepts his mistake with regard to the villain. That was refreshing.

#1 Promises Historical Erotic Romance series

Good solid plot, I loved Asa, the main M character ... Elizabeth, the main F character was a BITCH, so argumentative that I kept wishing Asa'd kick her outta the house and send her to the barn till she could be nicer to him!

I understand Elizabeth's major issue with being quite competent to run the ranch and make business decisions (in Wyoming Territory, 1868), but since women were not respected or taken seriously at that time, she was continually frustratred.

But her constant nitpicking and verbal barbs over the smallest things directed her husband Asa, a kind and fair man, really got on my nerves.

The opening chapters where Elizabeth walks into the seedy, smoky bar where her fancy-dressed, cruel gambler beau/husband is living it up and demands money from him to pay the ranch bills ... loved it!

Despite Elizabeth's contrariness, the storyline and supporting characters were so good that the book still gets 4 stars.

After reading all the positive reviews I was looking forward to reading this and at first the first few pages were promising until the hero and "heroine" got together and she opened her mouth. It may be a historical book but her prissy attitude made me want to punch her. There was just something about her I could not stand enough that I couldnt finish the book. She didnt deserve her husband and I dont know how he could stand to deal with her.

A daughter of a deceased, renowned and hardened cowboy, with a considerable ranch, walks into a saloon and nearly pistol-whips her husband of about 24hrs. She demands and hustles back the money he stole from her and blatantly renounces him as a husband. Then, knowing she has to make her rejection stick, she boldly proposes to another man, known for his fight and his gun, a man who is considered, by society, unsuitable, a man who can't believe everything he secretly dreamed of is being offered by a woman who is more than she seems.

Let's just say, the woman, Elizabeth, is only impressive in the beginning, yet clueless and unnecessarily proper at other times. The man, Asa, is dependable, somewhat humorous and he has a alpha quality that is thinly worn, but dangerous. The chemistry of the couple falls in their banter and sometimes, their bickering, which is either ill-placed or just comic relief. They have great sex and-What the hell! You want them to have their HEA. Why not?!

Though this one almost had me giving it under 3 stars! Mixed with the backdrop of a western town simmering with greed, guts and adventure, this story doesn't have all the polish that it could, but the intent is promising.

It was OK... I was little not-buying the story of virgin that enjoys certain things in sex in 19th century society environment, but OK :)
Great for passing-time-book-collection ;)

DNF

We had a prickly heroine that really had no redeeming qualities. The hero was alright, but nothing special. Unrealistic, not sexy...just lots of erections popping up right from the beginning. Erotica is a tough one because it either works or it fails, no gray area. This one failed.

Solid naughty little read with a decent plot. My last book was a complete disappointment so this was exactly what I was looking for, something good that didn't take a whole lots of concentration. The next on the series is Cougar so I will probably read that too!!

I'm not usually left speechless but, after I picked myself up off the floor, I thought "I can't possibly write a review."

Well, I'll try anyway. Is it hot in here?

Asa is one steamy guy. Whoa. He can call me darlin' any time it so moves him. He's one of those bad boys who are soft on the inside and he sure is possessive with what's his.

Elizabeth annoyed me on occasion but not enough to take off a star. I can't put my finger on what it was because I certainly understood alot of her behavior stemmed from being abused.

Anyway, this is a great, hot read. Recommend.

I buzzed through this one this week end. This was my first book from Elora's Cave and a very hot book. I didn't know if I would enjoy reading erotica, or if I'd be grossed out. It turns out that I enjoyed this, and I'm going to read the next one in the series. The author actually made sex on horseback sound possible as well as fun.
