it was amazing
bookshelves: erotica, western-frontier, e-book

Was this ever good! The setting was absolutely phenomenal! McCarty writes a western so exceptionally well you'd think she lived during the time and came back to tell everyone about it. And then there’s the sex! Scorcher, scorcher, burns-right-off-the-paper scorcher and ick-free to boot! She has THE best oral sex scene with Elly on the kitchen table that I've ever read! Good god you have to remember to breathe when all is said and done ;)

Asa, the hero with the weird name, is soooooo beautiful inside and out. They do not come any better. His “darlin’ this and “darlin’ that just had me swooning right through the book. He is a paragon of hotness this honey is 8)

You've got the good guys and the bad guys, a feisty heroine, some really sad stories but none have the sudden problem or misunderstanding that you often know is coming up or just general stupidity that you sometimes get with erotica. There is also no hello-left-field "filler sex" which makes the story even better.

And the ending! Sigh, sigh, sigh, well my heart skipped a few beats, it was so perfect.

Two things I didn’t like about this book was the cheesy cover (which was probably a reason why I wasn’t that eager to read it) and that it weighs 10 tons what with the nicer Ellora’s Cave paper. But that aside, this is one cowboy romance that gets you right at the beginning, has sticky-hot steam and tells a mighty fine love story :)

Auntee Are you starting this series? This one was my least favorite of the bunch. Number two and especially three are even better!:)

Eastofoz OMG Auntee are you kidding?! It gets better :D !!So far I REALLY like it! I hope it doesn't turn into a sex fest though and she scrimps on the story because the story and the steam together are top notch so far. Are there 3 or 4 books out right now (please say 3, please say 3!)?

Addicted2Luv Excuse me for jumping into the conversation, but I think there are 4: : Promises Linger, Promises Keep, Promises Prevail, and Promises Reveal. I just got the first two.

Ladiibbug East ~

Addicted2Luv is right, 4 in the Promises series so far:

Why do you say, "please say 3"?

Hoping my request for #2 (Promises Keep) via (book rental site) arrives soon!

Looking forward to more of your comments!

Auntee LOL East! If you want me to pick up "Promises Prevail" for you, just give me a shout--luckily it's just a MM paperback, not one of those expensive EC ones! Glad you're liking it--I'm assuming you have the first three?

BTW, there's plenty of story--not a 'sex-fest' like "Mac's Law"!:)

Eastofoz Thanks Addicted!

Ladiibbug, "please say 3" because I have no more room on my shelves and these "newly discovered" multiple book series are going to be the death of me 8)

Auntee, nope I only have this one! Once I'm done I just may be placing a "free shipping" order your way (lol!) I'll keep you posted!

Auntee Okay East--you have plenty of time--I can't buy (for myself, anyway) until the 10th!

new_user Good choice, East. I'm glad to see you're liking the series. I read the first two a while back and I remember really liking them, so I'm reading Prevail right now. Whaddya know, LOL. So far, I think I liked the first two better, but it's still early.

Auntee Jeez East, you're making me want to read this again, and it wasn't even my favorite one of the series!
BTW, read your PM, and I'm on it!:)

Eastofoz Auntee, I really liked Sam's Creed but this is even better so you saying that the others in the series are better still has certainly piqued my interest!

Teryl Great review East, now I have to move this one up in my to buy list :)

new_user Glad you liked it, East. You summed up my thoughts about the book too. Totally agree about Asa and the cover and the author's grasp of reality even in fictional settings. There are no contrived events, etc. The story's easy to believe (and enjoy).

Eastofoz That's exactly it new_user: nothing is contrived and it's a great read.

Addicted2Luv The only bad thing I can say about it was the weight. Although I liked the nice paper, the heaviness of the book made my thumbs sore.

Pamela(AllHoney) East, why do u think Asa is a weird name? just curious. I've met a few Asa s in my life.

Eastofoz AddictedtoLuv, the weight of this book is brutal! My wrists were getting tired when I'd read in bed 8)

Pamela, I've never heard of the name "Asa" before in a book or out --I thought the author made it up (lol!) It sounds like a girl's name to me --and this guy is no girl that's for sure! Sort of reminds me of "Ava" for some reason.

Pamela(AllHoney) East, I've known a few guys named Asa and it's actually an Old Testament name. I think there is a soap opera character with the name too. can't remember the soap but it was Asa Buchanan or something like that. I stopped watching soaps years ago.

Addicted2Luv I kind of like the name Asa since this hero had that name, and he was so cool. I didn't know it was biblical, but it has a nice old-fashioned ring to it. I've only known of one Asa, besides the soap opera guy.

East, my thumbs still hurt. I might need injections. I'd be forced to go see my cute ortho doc and tell him I'd been reading a big, fat erotica book.

Eastofoz Pamela how is it pronounced: Assa, Aeza (???)

LOL Addicted on the ortho doc! Best to get help before it becomes chronic ;)

Pamela(AllHoney) not good with phonetics... but A-sa
I guess that would be Aeza?

Addicted2Luv That's what I was thinking when I read it. Fist "A" long, second "a" short, accent on first syllable.

Julie (jjmachshev) East,
phoenetically with the first A with a long vowel and the second with a short
Aa-suh

JJ

new_user Yeah, I thought it fit the Western theme, since it's kind of an old-fashioned name.

Eastofoz Gotcha re the pronunciation that's how I ended up saying it.

Karyn I read this one based on your 5 stars and absolutely loved it.
The cheesy cover did make me consider, but i'm glad i read it.
i want me an Asa McIntyre

Eastofoz Glad you liked it then K :D I ignored this whole series forever because of the cheese ball covers (lol!) What a treasure trove it was though when I started reading it --except for the last one that I didn't like but she changed publisher and you could really tell the difference in style. The next installment is out this year sometime. If you want yourself an Asa wait until you read the other guys' stories (**sigh sigh**). One of the best westerns out there IMO.
