Did you ever see a guy and just know you had to meet him? That was me and Bodhi Merrick. I couldn't take my eyes off him as he donned his wetsuit at the famous big-wave surf spot, Mavericks. I'll never forget that day. Or every time our paths crossed after that. Big wave surfing is a small world. And, as it happens, Bodhi felt the same tug---this irresistible attraction that drew us to one another. We became known as surfing's "it couple." Our love was more famous than either of us. Until life threw us for a loop and tore what we had apart. Now, two years after our breakup, I find myself standing on my brother's front porch, ready to beg my only sibling for a place to crash. Only, the man who answers the door isn't my brother. It's my brother's best friend---also known as my ex-boyfriend, Bodhi Merrick. Now we're living in the same house on Marbella Island. Bodhi seems to have moved on. My heart will always be his. How am I supposed to heal from the biggest tragedy of my life when he's walking around in board shorts with his wavy hair falling across his forehead, and calling me the nickname he gave me years ago? Maybe I don't want to get over him. The question After all we've been through, can we give our relationship a second chance? Catch a Wave is a closed-door romcom that will grip your heart and take you on a ride ending in a sweet happily ever after. Catch a Wave is the third book in the Love Trippin' series, but can be read as a stand-alone read without reading the other books in series.
AHHH where can I find Bodhi bc he is soooo amazingggg!!😍 I loved pretty much everything about this book! The surfing aspect was one of my fav parts! I absolutely LOVE books with a surfing theme, and I've never really read one like this!! Soul Surfer and h2O Just Add Water are like my fav shows sooooo I was so excited to read this book! I loved how we got travel descriptions and just such amazing vibes! Ugh i love it!🤩 I also really liked the writing style! It was pretty basic, but it was super descriptive and sweet!! As usual, I loved the small town vibes!! Small surf town vibes are even better tbh😁 And when I say Bodhi and Mavs had chemistry I am not kidding!!! They had soooo much chemistry it was so fun to read! Their sweet gestures, absolutely adorable banter, and just overall actions truly showed how much they loved each other and it was so cute to read!!!🥰 Also the nicknames were amazing!! Mavs and Bo☺️ The friendship between Mavs and Leilani was just so special to read! Also Kai and Bodhi had a super sweet relationship too!! Shaka was so sweet too!! And that epilogue was awesomeeee🤩 The only reason I gave it four stars was because of how slow burn it was....the whole time everyone knew they were still in love and would get back together, but they wouldn't do it!!!😭 Then they were kinda together, but wouldn't label it, and kept saying they were "just friends." I was seriously annoyed lol. They didn't officially get together until the last 1-2 chapters!! I think it could have been way quicker. It could have still been slow burn, just less slow burn, yk? Either way, I truly loved this book!!!! 🏄🏻♀ Second chance romance 🏄🏻♀ Forced proximity 🏄🏻♀ Brothers best friend 🏄🏻♀ Surfer romance 🏄🏻♀ Small town

I don’t even know a thing about surf culture, but I loved how much I absorbed from reading about this pair and their experiences. So, yeah, go read this book for All.The.Feels. I laughed, I cried, I loved it all. It is just a beautiful book.
TW: Major accidents, healing, and depression—all handled with great care, and maintains a romcom vibe.
...if I could turn back clocks and calendars, she'd be the one thing I'd get right--the one I'd never leave behind.
Second chance romance.
I love it. I am here for it. I can't get enough of it.
Savannah Scott set this book up perfectly in book 2. I have been DYING to get Bohdi's story and it did not let me down. If this setting were real, I would be on the first plane to Marbella Island and I'd want to become best friends with everyone from book 1 to book 3 (and any book written after that!).
I have a feeling we are going to get Kai's story and I wouldn't mind Leilani getting a story now too...and I definitely wouldn't mind a novella for Clarissa!!! What can I say? I want them all.
Savannah, you've created a Marbella Island super fan :)
This story has it all: second chance romance, redemption and comeback themes, Ohana is everything, an amazing new type of sports romance with surfing, dreamy settings, and the swooniest love story just in time for the temps to start rising!
This "IT" couple is about to become your new favorite literary couple!!!
I absolutely LOVED this book! Get it in your hands as soon as you can!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content: injuries, depression, minimal innuendo, close family relationships, romance-kisses only.
Catch a Wave🌊 by Savannah Scott (Book 3 in the Love Trippin' Series) 3 to 3.5 Stars
Read if you enjoy: 🌊ܰھԲ
🌊Second Chance Romance
🌊Brother's best friend
🌊Setting like Hawaii/California Beaches
🌊Adopted dogs
🌊Clean romance
If you enjoy the things mentioned above, give it a try! I recommend starting with book 1 in this series, even though this can be read as a standalone.
This book follows the second-chance romance between Bodhi and Kalaine. They were surfing's "it" famous couple. 2 years ago they broke up but as things would have it, they are brought back together when she realizes he is living with her brother on Marbella Island. Kalaine is there because she gets into a surfing accident and is trying to recuperate at her brother's home.
Savannah has such a way with her stories that make you smile, laugh and be happy. I really liked the side characters and the small town details. She always writes the really great settings that make you feel like you are there.
For the romance, I am not always a big fan of the second chance romance trope so I knew going in it may or may not be a favorite. I personally was a bit confused on some of the storyline because we have some flashbacks of the past to explain how they came to be in their second chance romance today and I guess I needed to pay attention more to the headers in those chapters, because I found myself taken out of the story when I didn't realize it was a flashback. While I didn't connect with the main characters as much as I hoped, I still really enjoy this series and think they are fun summer reads.
Excited to see how book 4 goes, its more of my favorite tropes versus this and I think I will connect with it a bit more.
“Second chances don’t always come in the form we wish they would. They are always made of one common ingredient: Sheer grace.
I loved this book! Bodhi and Kalaine’s romance was fantastic and a delight to lose myself in. Savannah wrote their story SO beautifully and had me smiling, swooning, reflecting on my own life experiences, and in tears a few times.
Catch A Wave has humorous moments, but it also has so much depth and emotion. Each character had their own challenges to go through, and watching them triumph over them was powerful and very moving.
What I loved: 🩵 Second chance romance 💛 Brothers best friend 🩵 Soulmates 💛 Close proximity 🩵 Flashbacks 💛 Grace and forgiveness 🩵 “Kiss me 🥰 💛 Hawaiian culture 🤙🏻 🩵 MCs are surfing “it couple 🏄♂ 🏄♀ 💛 Supportive family 🩵 Shaka 🐕 💛 Overcoming hard things 🩵 Epilogue
This is a wonderful story with a lot of heart and depth, characters you can’t help falling in love with and cheering for, and a super swoony romance. I’ve loved all of Savannah‘s books, but this one really resonated with me and will stick with me for a long time.
Catch A Wave is book 3 in the Love Trippin Series but can be read as a standalone.
“I always loved you. I never stopped. I love you so much it breaks me. And then it puts me back together.
All the stars for this one! Catch a Wave will definitely grab your heart. It’s a tender second chance romcom that had me laughing, cheering, swooning, and even shedding a tear or two. I loved Bodhi & Kalaine aka Bo & Mavs. Their romance was so bittersweet with all the feels. I loved how they found their way back to each other.
Kalaine’s a pro surfer who just suffered a horrific accident. She’s come to her brother’s place on Marbella Island to recover & find peace of mind. Instead, she finds her ex who broke her heart two years ago. Kai neglected to mention he shares his home with his best friend Bodhi.
Neither one ever got over the other and Kalaine never got a real reason why Bodhi left. As they spend more time together, all the old feelings resurface. But when Kalaine heals will they stay together or will Bodhi let her go?
AHHH! This story was so so good! I loved the Hawaiian culture representation, the surfer culture, and the oh so achingly beautiful second chance romance. Savannah Scott captured so many emotions and I fell in love with Bo & Mavs from the very beginning. Their story was so raw and tender and I loved every moment. There’s even a little dog, Shaka who steals the show whenever he’s mentioned, as well as all the familiar faces from the Love Trippin series.
This story struck the perfect balance between the need for healing and forgiveness with laugh out loud moments. And the romance! Shoulder kisses anyone? It’s a story that had me glued to my kindle and I can’t wait to savor it all over again.
Highly recommend to closed door romcom fans! It’s a definite favorite. Though part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but it’s more fun if you’ve read the previous books. *Ben!* I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author but also purchased a copy through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
Going to need to ponder a bit before writing a review.
Okay, I'm back after digesting and doing some rereading.
This is the third book in the Love Trippin' series by Savannah Scott. It is a standalone story that does contain some characters from previous books. It is advertised as a second chance romance and brother's best friend trope along with forced proximity.
I felt there was definitely a different flavor to this romcom by Savannah Scott in comparison to her others. She has stated that this is a deeper story without as much of the comedy aspects. Although there are some humorous scenes. I can see the author's overall growth as a writer.
I know I may be in the minority but I feel I have to be honest in my review, so here it goes... This book struck me very similar to Cruiseshipped. That is another book by this author from her previous series. There was a lot of emphasis placed on the physical relationship. It is a clean/kisses only book. But I found the characters focusing on looks and kissing often. I know that there are many readers that love that type of story. To me this was an insta-attraction/almost insta-love story. I never really felt the couple fall in love the first time through the flash backs. That made it harder for me to believe the second chance aspect. There was a lot of focus on the feelings they had especially based on looks. I personally never understood what they loved about each other outside of physical attraction and love of surfing. I did go back and reread several chapters and still never saw where they fell in love because of a deeper connection. If I missed it, feel free to message me and let me know where it is.
Despite that I did enjoy other aspects of the story. And I appreciated learning more about surfing and Hawaiian culture.
Many thanks to the author for the complimentary copy of the ebook. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I don’t think there are words to describe my feelings for this book. Savannah has really outdone herself this time. This is not your ordinary romcom…it’s so much more than that. Yes, there is sweet romance, but these characters feel deeply and leave you feeling like you’ve lived this story with them. It’s a magical feeling.
I was so excited to read Bodhi’s story and it was nice to pick right back up where Ben and Summer’s story left off.
Bodhi and Kalaine’s (her name pronunciation is beautiful by the way) romance was powerful and beautiful. I was lost in their story of healing and forgiveness. They had chemistry that would cause an explosion, but their emotional connection to me was even more powerful. And to me, that’s what makes this book all that more special. Love is so much more than just physical, it’s emotion, heart and growth. Showing up for your person and being their anchor and support. And these two were all that and more.
This is a story that will always stay with me and has become a new favorite from Savannah. It will have you laughing one page, then crying sweet tears the next. It’s one you definitely don’t want to miss out on.
It was also great to see all of my friends on Marbella Island. They are the best to hang out with and I can’t wait til the next visit with sweet Kai!
This is the third book in the Love Trippin series but can be read as a standalone. But you will want to read them all…trust me!

Catch A Wave by Savannah Scott is the third book in the Love Trippin' series but can be read as a standalone. This book was absolutely perfection to me. I loved every moment of reading. I laughed, I cried and I swooned. This book is told from a dual POV, Kalaine (Mavs) and Bodhi. Kalaine, a pro surfer who gets injured shows up on her big brother's doorstep only to find her ex, Bodhi, and not Kai (whom she has not seen in 2 years since their breakup). Bodhi and Kai are best friends and housemates. This book is a second-chance closed-door romance. It was emotional and swoony. The flashbacks to Bodhi and Mav's relationship were the chef's kiss.

Favorite parts: - Kalaine's Word vomit - Yoga - Phyllis - Morning Surf-watch - Shaka - Monkey hitchhiker - Splash fight - Hiding from Kai - The Flashback - Kai at Mila's (Kalaine's first day working at Mila's) - Getting back on the surfboard
I just love Bodhi and Kalaine (plus that name is beautiful!) I love how they help each other get past the hurdles of what they are struggling with. I love how Bodhi and Kalaine each heal from their own trama at a different pace. Their healing is different and takes time and some people's healing takes longer than others.
I love the amazing friendships in this book (in this series!), they are ones that make the characters better and help them grow.
I love the flashbacks, it's like getting to read two love stories at once.
This is the third book in the Love Trippin series. It can be read as a stand alone.
Thanks to the author for the advanced copy! All opinions are my own.
Wow, I loved this one with my whole heart and that is not a statement I ever expected to make about a second chance romance. Scott took everything I dislike about this genre and fixed it perfectly.
She gave us the absolute emotional depth we needed to understand why this couple didn’t work out the first time, the insane chemistry to tie them together as the story went on, and the time, space and understanding each character needed to work out their feelings. Nothing was rushed and yet it never felt slow. Another pet peeve of mine normally with the genre is flashback scenes. I generally dislike how they take me out of the current story but in Catch a Wave it is so perfectly balanced that you look forward to those scenes. Rather then focusing on the breakup they are used to build Bodhi and Kalaine’s love story.
Of course as with any great rom-com there’s also plenty of funny moments with our favourite characters from Marbella Island. I especially got a kick out of Kalaine fangirling over Summer.
I also loved this glimpse into the world of pro surfing. I knew nothing about it before this book and now I am addicted to surfing videos on Youtube. It is incredible what these men and women do and it’s easy to understand why their relationship with the sea can be such a metaphor for relationships with others, as we see in this story.
All in all I have to say that this is my new favourite book in this series and probably my second favourite written by Savannah Scott. I had tears in chapter 2 and I had tears at the end-oh that ending! This is a beautiful rom-com with so much heart.
Thank you so much to the author for an advanced review copy. All opinions are my own.

“Stay strong. And maybe keep a safe distance from him. Six feet? That’s what they say for germs, right? Maybe giving him a healthy amount of personal space will make you immune to sexiness too?

I fall in love with each and every story Savannah Scott writes! She has once again created a story and characters that found their way into my heart in this beautiful and touching second chance romance.
Kalaine (aka Mavs) is a pro-surfer who is looking for a place to recover after being injured in a surfing accident. She heads to her brother’s home on Marbella Island and she is shocked when her ex-boyfriend opens the door. Bodhi has never gotten over Mavs but is determined to give her the space and time she needs to heal. Although now that they are living in the same house those old feelings are resurfacing for both of them.
"I want this, Mavs. Us. I want us. All of it." "Then let's get it--all of it, together."
Catch A Wave is second chance romance at its very best! Bodhi and Mavs quickly found their way into my heart with their sweet and tender story. I love how caring Bodhi was with Mavs from the minute she showed up at the door. I immediately couldn’t help wondering what had happened to end things between them because his feelings toward her were so warm. I loved the flashbacks that told their original love story from the day they had first seen each other to their first date and then the strong love that developed between the two of them. I could feel that love for each other grow as I read each page. There were so many beautiful aspects to this story. Watching Bodhi and Mavs heal through the story brought tears to my eyes. Bodhi and Mavs each healed at their own pace and on their own time. Shaka, the Rescue dog, was a great addition to the story. He gave Mavs some purpose in the beginning as she recovered. I also loved the brother/sister relationship between Kai and Mavs. Kai was so protective of Mavs. It was very sweet. I also really liked how Mavs talked about the sacrifice you make for each other in a relationship. I've seen way too many movies/tv shows where one person goes after their own dreams at the expense of the relationships in their lives but Mavs made it clear that you don’t just grab up all your own joy at the expense of those who matter most. It was so refreshing! This story is tender and filled with depth. A beautiful love story with some funny moments and lots of swoon! I was so happy to be back in Marbella Island. It feels like a second home.
What I loved: Second chance romance Brother’s Best friend Rescue dog Sweet brother/sister relationship The friendships Ben! Surfers It Couple The Flashbacks Hawaian culture Shoulder kiss Yoga The epilogue
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Out the gate this book gets into the heart of understanding the importance of surfing is to both protagonists! The surfing world is everything in this story and Savannah Scott provides a crash course in basic island slang! Another important thing I to keep in mind is there’s a bit of duology in life events of our two protagonists- it helps us as readers to understand them even better!
Bodhi is an easygoing watersports enthusiast! He seems like he is a stranger to no man or beast! Imagine his surprise when his ex shows up unannounced on his front porch after not seeing her for two years! Suddenly he’s in a mental tailspin as some things were not wrapped up as neatly between the two as could have been!
Kalaine, a normally free-spirited pro surfer chick, is currently down on her luck because of a recent injury. She has opted to take her brother’s offer of letting her crash at his place, not realizing he already had a roommate! This is roommate is the last person she thought she’d ever see, let alone help her with her recovery!
This book does include essential flashbacks to help explain the dynamics between our leads and how they got to be the way they are in the present! These flashbacks make the emotional feel for the book a bit heavier than Savannah Scott’s previous works, but if you ask me, they enhance the overall story and bring it a greater depth of understanding how important these two characters are to each other! It was also fun to see some of the other fun personalities that can be found on Marbella Island again, like Ben and Phyllis! And always, Savannah Scott does a fantastic job of subtly hinting at who the protagonists for the next book are as well!
I think I’m on a second chance kick, y’all! This story was so cute! Kalaine & Bodhi used to be madly in love. Bodhi lives on Marbella Island with his best friend, Kai, who happens to be Kalaine’s overprotective big bro. After a surfing accident that left her hospitalized, Kalaine comes to stay with Kai…and unbeknownst to her, Bodhi.
This story was so good! The way that the fear of the ocean and the fear of their relationship was paralleled was beautifully written. I liked how we got chapters from the past interspersed with their current lives.
There are so many things to love here: the nicknames, the Hawaiian culture, the forced proximity, the brother’s best friend aspect.
This one releases on Friday, March 15! You won’t want to miss it.
Quotes That Stuck Out: ❤️“Come on, Ma ... Kalaine. You don’t know if you don’t try. “It’s really hard for you not to call me that, isn’t it? I look her in the eyes, “Yeah. It’s hard. But you’re worth the effort.
‼️Everything worth having is worth the incremental steps of getting there.
🔥“Bodhi. My voice cracks as I say his name. “Don’t tell me you regret that. His eyes plead with me more than his words. He’s still got me wrapped in his embrace. “Even if you do regret it, don’t tell me. My heart won’t take it, Mavs. If you don’t want me to kiss you again, I won’t ... “Kiss me, Bodhi. I cut him off and stand on my tiptoes, using the phrase that drags up memories, but also invites us into whatever might come next.
What a sweet, heartwarming, healing story! Second chance isn’t always my favorite trope, but I knew that if anyone could make a story shine it would be Savannah Scott.
The depth of emotions these characters brought to the pages was *chefs kiss* It had its lighter moments, a few laugh out loud moments…but it was so much more than that! It was hurt, it was pain, it was healing, it was love, it was showing up, it was perseverance. All these things and more!
Kalaine & Bodhi weathered some storms, both personally & as a couple, and seeing them rise back up and LIVE again was so good!
I loved the surfing aspects of this story! It was unique and really put into perspective what these athletes put on the line for their passions.
Now I want to go sit on a beach somewhere and soak up some sun! This is the perfect summer read.
4/5 stars *I received this book from the author**All opinions are my own*
After getting hurt surfing, Kalaine plans to move in with her brother while she’s recovering. When she shows up on his doorstep, his best friend answers. The problem- her brother’s best friend, Bodhi, also happens to be her ex. Now living in the same house, will they be able to heal their past wounds and start over?
I enjoyed this book. I love a good second chance romance. The characters were great and I’m glad we got to see past characters too. This is the 3rd book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. I liked having the flashbacks and the dual point of view. This was a closed-door romance (did have some sweet kisses) with clean language, which I appreciate that!
This book comes out on March 15,2024. Be sure to add to your TBR list!! It will be a great summer read. Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Catch a Wave is the third book in the Love Trippin' series. While we've met several characters in the previous books in the series, this can absolutely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.
Anytime I pick up a Savannah Scott book, I know that it's going to be a good read. Her books are always just the right blend of heart and romance with laugh out loud comedic moments that I adore and I've not read one that I did not enjoy. But I have never fallen as deeply for two characters and their story as I did with Bodhi and Kalaine. Oh My. Goodness. These two were just... wow. I don't even have the words to fully express how much I enjoyed their story! There was such a depth to them that I couldn't help but want them to get their happily ever after... the tone might have been just a bit more on the serious side compared to other books in the series, but it still had all those humorous moments that I've come to expect as well to give it that perfect balance. I'm a big fan of second chance romances anyway, and I found this one was done remarkably. I loved how the healing from Kalaine's accident so perfectly mirrored the healing that needed to take place in their relationship. The story flashes back to their past, giving us that great history and I loved how we were given just enough to want to read on and see what went wrong. The surf culture added so much to the story as well and honestly, I just loved absolutely everything about this book!
Catch a Wave is a closed-door romance with nothing beyond kisses.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
We're back on Marbella Island and the love is still flowing strong, if only the ones in love would just open up their eyes and realize it! Our main female character has suffered a major setback physically and mentally in her chosen career and has come to the island to recuperate at her brother's home. However, her brother forgot to mention that he is sharing a house with her ex, the one that was supposed to be her happily ever after. This is a sweet second chances romance that will have you staying up too late and turning pages furiously as you can't wait to see what happens next. This book is slightly different than the previous books as the main characters have a past and we get flashbacks of the past to help explain how they came to be looking at a second chance today. This author creates characters that have extremely realistic personalities as well as quality humor along with plots that will have you tearing up in one moment and giggling the next. I absolutely can't wait to come back to the island to see whose story will be told next!
When I first started this book I wasn't quite sure if I was going to like it but as the story went on I quickly developed a love for both main characters. Kalaine and Bodhi meet and bond over their love of surfing. The fall in love but when an accident brings Bodhi into a depression he ends things with Kalaine so she can pursue her surfing dreams, devastating Kalaine. Fast forward and Kalaine has her own accident, goes to live with brother and finds Bodhi as her new roommate as well. As they get back to being friends they soon realize they still love each other.
This story has no spice, just kissing but it didn't take away from the deep feelings the characters felt for each other. They truly had each other's best interests at heart and had a love that most would be envious of. I really enjoyed this story and would like to read more from this author. Would recommend if you like second chance romance!
Thank you to NetGalley, Savannah Scott and Victory Editing Net Gallery co-op for the allowing me to review this ARC!
I requested a digital advanced readers copy from Savannah Scott and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
Synopsis: Did you ever see a guy and just know you had to meet him?
My Thoughts: This is the third book in the Love Trippin series. While this is part of a series, it can absolutely be read as a standalone. The cover is stunning, probably my favorite cover yet of Scott’s books. This is my favorite indie author, I will read anything Scott puts out, even blindly. I am very grateful to be part of her launch team for this book. This is a close book romance that was both sweet, heartfelt, and beautifully written. Kalaine “Mav and Bohdi had a special connection until a wrench was thrown in their path causing a messy breakup. Fast forward two years later and Mav finds herself at her brother’s place looking for a place to crash, except when she knocks on the door, she does not expect to see Bohdi. They are under the same roof while she is recovering from the biggest injury of her career. Are there still feelings two years later? Will their connection be as if no time has escaped? This follows the tropes of second chance romance, island life, small town, forced proximity, friends to lovers, found family, surf culture, and brother’s best friend.
This story is narrated in a dual narration by both Mav and Bohdi in their respective perspectives. Within the dual perspective is flashbacks to their original relationship, I love that the breakup wasn’t the focus, but their deep connection was. Mav is a free-spirited, independent woman that is strong, a surfing queen, and sassy. Bohdi has rebuilt his life after his own surfing injury, is very charming, swoony, and kind. These two MCs have truly amazing chemistry on page and their story is raw, intimate, and healing. I believe the chemistry was so deep as their connection was deep, it goes beyond the physical attraction. The characters were created with depth, passion, witty banter, amazing chemistry, and were intriguing. The supporting characters, Kai, Mila, and Clarissa really elevated the book to another level. Then our returning characters with an update on their story was the chef’s kiss. The author’s writing style was complex, closed door, swoony, and just beautifully written. I think my favorite repeated line from the story is, “Kiss me Bohdi. The author really dug deep for this story and has absolutely outdone herself.
This has trigger warnings of depression, major sport injuries, and healing from them; the author handles them with such grace and integrity while maintaining a light romcom vibe. This story kept me on a rollercoaster of emotions from laughing to genuine tears. This was more than a love story, it has a beautiful romance between our MCs, but it also has a strong message of redemption and a comeback in professional sports. Before this book, I had not read a surfing romance and loved the introduction into this world and have a deeper understanding of what surfers put their bodies through and the commitment to the sport. The only con was that I was sad when the story ended, I love reading about Marbella Island. I cannot wait until we get Kai’s story next. He so deserves a HEA! I highly recommend picking up this book and the other two books in the series. 🌊🐚🌊🐚
What a sweet book. It's as if Hallmark movies and Disney Channel Original Movies came together and had a baby.
This is the first book I have ever read, although, I do have the "Getting Shipped" series on my TBR list as well as the first two books of the "Love Trippin'" series. I was planning on starting "Getting Shipped" in late April to binge-read all 7 books and I was going to leave the "Love Trippin'" series until all five books were available, but I signed up on NetGalley to receive an ARC copy and (super excited) I was approved. This is now my second-ever ARC review (Thanks NetGalley!).
With that said, I was hesitant to read because I hadn't read the series from the beginning. However, I am happy to confirm that this can be read as a stand-alone book and you will get the full feel of the book and characters. I'll check out and to see if I get any background information or prior introduction to Bohdi to add to the story experience, but I didn't feel I was missing out on anything jumping into the series with this third book.
This is my second-ever "surfer" love story/romance and, while I am still not too familiar with the surfer beach lingo, it was very easy to keep up with the dialogue, however, there were some words that made me think of "California surfer dude" sayings and they were starting to get on my nerves.
The story in a very small nutshell: We start with Bohdi and his bff, Kai, watching a surf competition with other friends while chilling in their living room. They happen to be watching Kalaine (otherwise known as Mavs) compete. She is Kai's sister and Bohdi's ex-girlfriend. She has a horrible wipe-out (is that what it is called) and is unable to compete. She is hurt physically and traumatized mentally, which leaves her to consider retiring from professional surfing. To heal, she moves in with Kai, who happens to also be roommates with Bohdi. Mav and Bohdi haven't spoken since they broke up 2 years prior. Let's just say it is awkward. However, Bohdi understands the mental struggles that Mav is going through because, it just so happens, that he too went through them when he had a surfing accident that landed him in the hospital, clinically depressed and with the fuel that led to their break-up. So here they are, 2 years later, sharing a roof. Bohdi wants to help Mav heal and eventually get back on that surfboard after having worked through his demons over the past 24+ months. If he can also rekindle the relationship he let slip through his fingers, then even better.
The format of the book is told from the POV of both characters and the present day as well as a flashback to their relationship. I noticed that the majority of the flashbacks were told from the POV of Mav and the present-day was told from the POV of Bohdi...not 100% clean-cut lines that way but in general, we see more of the present-day story from Bohdi and a few chapters from Mav, while the majority of the reminiscing is from Mav. This is a closed-book romance, so I understand there is no foul language, no heat, and no spice, very clean-cut. I personally found it to be TOO clean-cut, so much so that I found it hard to relate to the attraction between the MCs. It was rated G...like, my 9-year-old could read this book and I would be fine with it. That's not a bad thing, it's just not my cup of tea most of the time. The writing is very good and it's an easy read that I didn't find I had to push myself to finish the book. I did think there were a lot of metaphors between the ocean and surfing the lost relationship between the MCs or even metaphors to life. I could have used less text about being one with the ocean. I would rate this a 3.5 star but I can't give half-points so I wanted to be generous and round-up. I will still keep the books in my TBR list and I want to read this entire series, however, I don't see myself binge-reading the entire thing.
This is a love story that lingers like salt on sun-kissed skin. “Catch a Wave by Savannah Scott is a delightful second-chance romance that sweeps readers off their feet and carries them on a sun-kissed journey of love, loss, and redemption. With its vivid coastal setting, relatable characters, and heartwarming moments, this book is a must-read for anyone seeking a sweet and passionate escape.
At the heart of the story is the magnetic attraction between Maverick "Mavs" Hayes and Bodhi Merrick. Their initial encounter at the famous big-wave surf spot, Mavericks, sets the stage for a love story that transcends the ordinary. As Mavs watches Bodhi don his wetsuit, she feels an irresistible pull. It’s a connection that defies logic and draws them together like the tide to the shore. Their love becomes legendary in the surfing world, and they are dubbed the “IT couple."
Life has a way of testing even the strongest bonds. A twist of fate tears Mavs and Bodhi apart, leaving them with hearts bruised by loss. Two years later, Mavs finds herself seeking refuge on her brother's doorstep, only to be greeted not by her brother but by Bodhi himself. The man who once held her heart now stands before her, and the memories flood back. Everything from the sun-kissed days, the shared laughter, and the whispered promises.
Scott masterfully weaves flashbacks into the narrative, allowing readers to relive the intensity of Mavs and Bodhi's original love story. Their chemistry crackles off the pages, and their banter is both playful and poignant. As they navigate the complexities of their past, the tension between them is palpable. Can they overcome the hurt and find a second chance at happiness?
The setting of Marbella Island provides a dreamy backdrop for their reunion. The sun-drenched beaches, crashing waves, and salty air mirror the ebb and flow of their emotions. And as they share a living space once again, old wounds resurface, but so do the sparks of attraction. Bodhi, with his wavy hair and board shorts, is impossible to ignore. Mavs grapples with conflicting feelings because her heart still belongs to him, but can she risk it all again?
A closed-door romance that tugs at the heartstrings, Scott's prose is evocative, capturing the thrill of riding waves and the ache of lost love. The pacing is perfect, allowing readers to savour each moment. And while the passion simmers beneath the surface, it's the emotional depth that truly shines. Mavs and Bodhi's vulnerability is raw and real, reminding us that love isn't always smooth sailing, but it's about weathering storms and finding solace in each other.
As the story unfolds, secrets are revealed, forgiveness is sought, and healing begins. The supporting characters add layers to the narrative, creating a sense of community. And when the final wave crashes, leaving us breathless, we're rewarded with a sweet happily ever after that warms the soul.
Scott crafts a tale that celebrates love's resilience. Whether you're a seasoned surfer or a landlocked dreamer, “Catch a Wave invites you to ride the emotional swell and believe in second chances. While it's part of the Love Trippin' series, it stands alone, making it a perfect beach read or a cozy escape on a rainy day. It’s a reminder that sometimes, love is worth catching, even if it means riding the biggest wave of your life.So grab your virtual surfboard, dive into the pages, and let the waves of passion carry you away.
Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for a temporary e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What I loved: - second chance romance - Pro-surfer couple - Brother’s Best friend - Forced proximity (roommates) - Nicknames 💕 - Laid back lifestyle / island life - Deep character development - Shaka 💕 - “Kiss me, Bodhi 😭😍 - The “invisible string constantly pulling these two together - Ride or die best friend, Leilani - Bali 😅 - The epilogue 😭 - He takes care of her
This is my first book I’ve read by Savannah Scott and now I definitely need to read more. This book had me all in my feelings. The dedication and passion Bodhi and Kalaine (aka Mavs) have for each other and surfing is inspiring and heart-warming. Throughout the book, you get to learn about surfing culture and Hawaiian culture, which is so cool and I want more books like this!
Bodhi and Kalaine have a long history together but it has been damaged by a lot of trauma and miscommunication. They know find themselves in a somewhat similar situation and have to navigate a terrible surfing accident again.
I really, really enjoyed the use of flashbacks to explain the couple’s history. It gave so much more meaning and depth to what they were currently living through. I was constantly hoping for more details of their past and Savannah Scott did NOT disappoint.
I thought both MC’s POVs seemed very realistic and honest as they have intense feelings of hopelessness/loss of direction after major injuries. They both handled it differently but I think they Savannah Scott beautifully navigated writing about how different people heal from traumatic life and death experiences. She also sheds light on sometimes people think they are healed but are often still work-in-progresses. I appreciated the honest look into how different people navigate mental illness as well as how to communicate in relationships when one is struggling.
Bodhi and Kalaine’s chemistry is felt through the pages with their longing looks and unspoken communication with facial expressions. They have an instant connection that weathers many storms. Every time she says “Kiss me, Bodhi it’s perfect. I love the way this phrase came to be in their story and how it’s used throughout the book to show significant emotion 😭 it’s just too sweet.
I also appreciated that Savannah Scott acknowledges though her characters that in a relationship both people make sacrifices out of love and commitment to one another. It’s such an important reminder 💕
The songs I picked for this book were “skinny dipping by Sabrina Carpenter, “she by Jake Scott, “More than Yesterday by Two Friends and Russell Dickerson, “the 1 by Taylor Swift, “Enchanted by Taylor Swift, and “invisible string by Taylor Swift.
This is a clean romance with passionate kisses and longing looks. There is also no cursing. Content warning: traumatic injuries while surfing, depression
Thank you so much to Savannah Scott for letting me read this e-ARC via NetGalley.
I was lucky to get an ARC of this book, the third in Savannah's Love Trippin' series. This is my first book read from Savannah’s series set on Marbella Island and it won’t be my last! I loved the small town, beach town and how the people embrace Kalaine and Bodhi.
I loved the second chance romance in this story. It’s so fun to get to know Mavs and Bodhi in two timelines. We have the present where they find themselves in forced proximity after years apart. And we have their first meeting and initial falling in love story. I loved experiencing both simultaneously. There is just so much to love about these two and their love story. I loved their love at first sight attraction. Their first date is one of my favorites ever (the monkeys!!). I loved their love of the ocean and taking risks together. I love their nicknames and the way their love never truly stops. And I love seeing them both heal after accidents and heartbreak. And I really enjoyed Kai (the big brother) and seeing how he helps them both heal and love. The first time Mavs surfs on Marbella is such a beautiful moment!! There are a million little moments that build a beautiful and compelling story.
I learned a lot about professional surfing which was a fun part of this story. I have actually never surfed in my life. And I don't feel the pull of the ocean that these two do. But I loved learning so much about the sport. The different places where big wave riders compete. The different elements that are at play to create perfect conditions and big waves. The sponsorships, the training, the coaching and the community. And how much they risk every time they ride especially the big waves. I looked up pictures from some of the spots Savannah describes and wow those are big waves! I loved how surfing brings Mavs and Bodhi together both when they are at the top of their sport and when they both experience accidents. The water helps them heal and love each other fully again. Such a beautiful backdrop to this story.
I just loved this one. The story is so beautiful and healing. I love the journeys Mavs and Bodhi both go on. I love their sweet, tender, passionate love. And I really enjoyed learning so much about professional surfing! Whether you’re new to Marbella Island or a longtime fan, this romance is for you!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
This sweet older brother's best friend, second chance romance was my favorite in the Love Trippin' series so far, with more depth and emotion than I was expecting. In it we meet Bodhi Merrick, Ben's coworker at the water sports shack from the previous book, and his housemate and best friend, Kai Kapule. Both are former pro surfers, and Bodhi used to date Kai's sister, Kalaine, before suffering an accident that caused him to shut down and push her away. After Kalaine has a similar accident during a competition, she comes to stay with her brother to recover, not knowing that Bodhi has been living with her brother for the past two years. Neither of the former couple are happy with Kai's deception, but try to be adults and move past the hurt as friends. Bodhi was sweet and encouraging to Kalaine as she attempted to heal from her accident, and you could tell that he never stopped loving her. I liked how Kalaine was strong and independent, and pushed back against Kai's overprotective instincts. There is a lot of surfing terminology in this one, so it was interesting for me to learn about something I really didn't know much about, and you could tell that the author was knowledgeable about the subject. I'm looking forward to seeing Kai's story next up, as we continue to branch away from the original Bordeaux group of young adults and into the Marbella island locals.
🩵 Thank you Savannah Scott for a copy of Catch a Wave to review.
Second chance is one of my favorite tropes and Bodhi and Kalaine’s story is one of the most beautiful ones I’ve read.
Stars: 5/5 Spice: 0/5 (Closed-Door)
Kalaine, looking for a place to stay while she recovers from her surfing accident, shows up on her brother’s doorstep but instead, Bodhi, her ex, opens the door. Is re-meet awkward a thing? Because instead of a meet-cute, they have the most awkward of re-meets. Kalaine still doesn’t know why he broke her heart 2 years ago. Bodhi, a retired surfer, knows what she’s going through after her accident. Despite their history, he wants to be the one to be there for her. And she wants nothing to do with him. Will they be able to find their way back to each other?
I honestly don’t know how to put into words exactly how much I loved this book. This is the third Savannah Scott book I’ve read, and I love each one more and more. With the first two, she made me fall for the Frenchmen. With this one, she made me swoon for the surfer. Do I know anything about surfing? No. But with Savannah’s writing, I didn’t need to. I was completely immersed in the story from start to finish. I highly recommend this book!
I received an ARC copy of the book and all thoughts are my own.
I adored this book and being brought back to Marbella Island. Bodhi is funny and sweet and that man bun!! 🤩 Kalaine aka Mavs is easy going, free spirited, and strong.
I loved this second chance story so much! It wasn't only a second chance for Bodhi and Mavs as a couple, but it was a second chance for each of them with the ocean and surfing. To journey their injuries with them and witness their growth was a treat. Their chemistry and bond and how they look out for one another is so special.
I was so excited about the forced proximity aspect of the book, too. It was such a fun surprise!!
Also, Kai is a wonderful big brother to Mavs and best friend to Bodhi. I look forward to reading his story and seeing him get his HEA.
Thank you, NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for my honest review.
