Trial by Fire is Valmonts instalment. He is Bryn's knight and love interest. Zavien blew his chance with Bryn and Valmont was waiting in the wings to impress her. They have a special bond but something seems strange about their relationship. They are trying to work out their problems but it's hard to work out what's not right.
Meanwhile, Jaxon is standing by Rhianna after her injury even if they can no longer marry. Jaxon is jealous of everyone. He's jealous of Rhianna's new friend. He's trying to show an alpha front and stay strong with his fellow male dragons. He has a new potential marriage set up but it's not for love. Bryn and Jaxon are no longer fighting but no sparks are flying. They are hoping to find a marriage agreement that works for them both if they have to accept each other.
The dragon school is back and so are the enemies. There is a new mystery to solve and a whole new library of books. Ivy and Clint are back as trusty friends but Bryn has new living digs. Nothing is smooth sailing in Trial by Fire. Dragon affairs are complicated and not everyone is happy with how things are run. Politics, secrets and another lockdown. It's all going on.
I'm really enjoying this series and so glad I went back to read the other books. I would highly recommend reading these books in order but I'm enjoying knowing the secrets.

When returning to Bryn’s world of magic and dragons it wasn’t the fantastical elements that first came to my attention (though their awesomeness didn’t go unnoticed) but the feeling of seeing friends again. I loved the characters from the first page of book 1 and while there have been many changes (and a significant loss that I don’t mourn) the plot changed with it, remaining true to their personalities. It follows Bryn, a dragon hybrid not quite accepted by either clan or the Directorate who have ultimate control, as she tries to navigate the social and political components of this dragon society where there are good friends and dangerous foes.
I did notice Bryn adapting a more ‘Blue Clan way of thinking� which fit the situation and also created an understanding between her and possible future fiancé Jaxon (if the Directorate gets their way). Trial by Fire focuses heavily on Bryn’s relationship with her knight Valmont but I’d be lying if I said I think they’ll work out, or that I want it to� Hashtag team sometimes asshole, sometimes gentleman Jaxon. With a focus on emotional connections woven into the action I was invested from start to finish, devouring the words and enjoying every second.

Another good installment and although this book did have an underlying storyline it did feel like it was primarily about connections. Friendships, partnerships, family and relationships.
I love Bryn and Valmont together, he's smart, loyal, handsome and brave. And I think it's obvious that they share a special bond and love for each other but I just don't see this relationship lasting longterm.
I think that what Bryn and Valmont share is a very special bond and a love that can only be understood between a Knight and his Dragon. But I just don't see this relationship of theirs going beyond that bond. And I think it's equally obvious that even Valmont can see the writing on the wall.
In case you were wondering the writing says Jaxon and Bryn sitting in a tree...
I do like Rhianna and Jaxon, he often shows a softer side with her but I don't see her as a strong enough person in a relationship with him. Jaxon has such strong opinions, both right and wrong due to his upbringing but I think she's too afraid of him leaving her to stand up to him when he is wrong.
With Bryn and Jaxon they may argue, may even want to hit each other over the head but they understand each other, the good and the bad. And I think that it's this understanding that will create a solid foundation for something more for them.

I was so excited to get this book after really enjoying the other two and I'm kind of disappointed with how it turned out.
We start out with Bryn going back to school were she is almost immediately attacked... again. I was glad to see that after this one her grandmother took some action and brought Valmont in. While I wasn't particularly on board for this I felt that it needed to be done at some point.
So, starting out with Bryn. I think there has been some really good development on her part from the first book and she is definetly more in touch with herself as a dragon. It was really interesting to see her different perspectives during this book and how all that time spent with her grandmother over christmas has started to wear off on her. I found that in the first book she thought a lot like a red dragon whereas in this one we saw some of her blue values coming out and this leads to her dealing with situations better but still keeping up her usual flare and personality. Once again she was created wonderfully in this book and the development has been done excellently.
Throughout this book it was good to see her build a stronger relationship with her grandfather and I think her personal development with the blue part of her really helped. However I would have really like to have seen some more of Lilith and her grandmother. Those two make me laugh so much.
Unfortunately a big part of this book was annoying for me to read and would have made me bring this down to a three star rating (if not for a few things that I will talk further down). Valmont and Bryn's relationship felt sort of forced for me which is unfortunate because I know that a lot of fans are vouching for him to be endgame and that the author has a particular liking for him. I just don't seen Valmont and Bryn working out in the long run and normally I am all for relationships like this which seem like second nature and all but I just found it frustrating to read. On more than one account it seemed that Valmont made Bryn's decisions for her. When she was going to wait outside Ivy's dorm with Zavien to see if she was ok, she was very upfront with Zavien about it and was quite insistent on staying, but when Valmont suggested that they should go to class she agreed straight away and left. To me this just annoyed me a bit because Bryn is such a strong character and Valmont can seem quite degrading sometimes. While I can see there is a strong bond between them it feels quite awkward to me and I definetly didn't enjoy reading about it. Another thing that I found so annoying was how easily Bryn forgave Valmont about some of the sings he said about her or about their relationship, I have noticed this to be a frequent pattern throughout this book and the last and while I understand it is part of her character it is quite frustrating that she forgives people as soon as they apologize (most of the time).
On the other hand it was really good to see Jaxon and Bryn's relationship develop more during this book and I think some of that might have been due to Valmont's involvement. I really love the slow burn that Chris Cannon seems to be creating here and I am just praying that Jaxon and Bryn will be endgame. I'm not sure if it was just wishful thinking but I found that sometimes Jaxon got a bit too pissed off about Valmont being around Bryn and I know he was an asshole about this a few times but it felt like he was getting a bit to angry to the point where it could be seen as overprotective. Those parts were very enjoyable to read about. I especially loved their relationship during the last few chapters when they would be able to give each other a look and now what the other meant. I think that by creating such a complex storyline between the two from the beginning, they will turn out to make a better pair than Valmont and Bryn. This was a really awesome and believable connection to read about. While Bryn might insist that it's 'a blue thing' I think Cannon is building some really good grounds for a relationship. These parts that were scattered throughout the book made it a whole lot more enjoyable which pushed this book up to a 3.5 rating.
The society itself throughout these books has remained very strong and it is good to see that bit by bit we are learning more about it. It was good to see an insight to the hybrid communities but the fact that the hybrid students got accepted into the institute without more back check as to their lineage seems a bit careless on the directorates part.
Overall this was a very fast paced book that had just the right amount of banter and action scenes and while it wasn't as enjoyable as the first two I still found most of it quite pleasant to read. Final rating is a 3.5. Can't believe I have to wait and entire year for the next one to come out ;(

There was just too much focus on Bryn's romantic trials and her personal insecurities, and not enough dragon business. The does he love me or doesn't he love me drove me to distraction, and Bryn's childish bickering with Jaxon, which was tedious in the last novel, was almost unbearable here. And, oh my! All of the smoke or ice coming out of Bryn's and Jaxon's nostrils! They should probably see a medic about that....

Here is another series I love in premise, but not execution. Bryn and her dragon friends are recovering from the attacks from the traitorous dragons. Parts of the school have been destroyed, and many of the students have been injured. Because a damaged dragon is a social embarrassment to the snobby blues, those students with life altering injuries are asked to stay home and be home schooled. Bryn isn’t having any of that, so she and her grandmother plan a party to entice all the students back to campus, with mixed success.
I kind of enjoy watching Bryn try to fit in with the dragon society that is still so new to her. Raised in secret by her parents and not even aware that she was a dragon, her new circumstances are a trial for her to become accustomed to. Finally acknowledged by her wealthy and powerful grandfather, she now has to behave in a way to not bring shame to the family. She is actually threatened by her grandfather, and the consequences for any misbehavior will be dire. So, yeah, there’s not a lot of family hugs and cuddles going on. I did enjoy how the relationship has developed with her stern grandmother, and it seems that it may be thawing, finally, with her grandfather.
Now, for what I didn’t like. There was just too much focus on Bryn’s romantic trials and her personal insecurities, and not enough dragon business. Her emotional upheavals over Valmont also grew tedious. The thing I loved most about the first book was Bryn’s take no crap attitude, and her sense of self. I feel that those have been lost as the series has progressed. She is brought low too easily by how she perceives the boys in her life think about her, and that’s in direct opposition to how she was in Going Down in Flames. While I am so glad that Zavien has all but disappeared from the picture, I don’t find Bryn’s constant emotional turmoil over whether Valmont truly loves her, or if his feelings are a result of the magical bond between them, is much of an improvement.

3.5 stars -- I received an ARC of this ebook through NetGalley!! (also -- spoilers if you haven't read the first two books)
This one fell a little short for me. I found it didn't quite have the same pace as the first two books, and while Bryn still had a lot of sass and awesomeness in her, it was tempered a bit. I do get that she's going through some changes and that living with the blues and trying to behave appropriately for her grandparents is affecting her, but I guess I just missed some of her fire.
I also found that this book was mired by a lot of...almost angst? I guess. It's just that I'm kind of gun shy on the romance front after Zavien...I bought into that relationship in the first book, and while I loved that it didn't work out (strangely), I'm having a hard time jumping on the Bryn/Valmont bandwagon. Now don't get me wrong, I mostly think Valmont is insanely swoon-worthy. But I'm not feeling a ton of chemistry between Valmont and Bryn in this book. I felt it more in the end of the second book than anything that happened in this one, and there was just so much back and forth that it made it hard for me to fall in love. And frankly, the back and forth in their relationship got a bit tiring at times.
There was also a lot less action in this one...which is fine, but I kind of missed it, you know? I just found I wasn't devouring this book as fast as the first two, and I'm trying to figure out why. I also find I keep missing characters that had bigger parts in the previous books. I enjoyed Merrick in book one, and he's been missing since then. I also enjoyed Lilith in books 1 and 2, and she's missing in this one as well. At least we got more from her Grandmother, and a bit from her Grandfather.
What I did enjoy was a lot of the little side developments. I enjoyed Garret playing a *super tiny* bit bigger of a role...he intrigues me (Octavius and Vivian too). I enjoy that the clans are mixing a bit more. I enjoyed seeing some changes in various dragons opinions -- seeing them question the laws (mostly Jaxon, though even her Grandfather has his moments where I think he may be seeing things differently, but I'm having a hard time trusting it).
No idea how I feel about the developments in Bryn's relationship with Jaxon. I think that's not helping me get on the Valmont bandwagon, but I'm not on the Jaxon bandwagon either (I'm definitely more V than J).
So yeah. We got some new mysteries to be solved, some interesting plot developments surrounding hybrids, some relationship shifts, some romantic drama and angst, and a bit of action in this one. Still invested in the series, but it wasn't my favourite installment.

Our favourite teen dragon shifter Bryn is back with Book #3 Trial by Fire. In a couple of ways I was a little disappointed with this read as I was under the impression that it was to be a trilogy and was hoping for a closure and some answers to questions in the first couple of books and also that the ending of Book #2 - the amazing cliffhanger wasn't really captured and talked about in Book #3 - it was slightly glanced over and only had a small handful of mentions in Trial by Fire. In a way parts of this book felt rushed as we only got snippets of stories. On the upside I did enjoy the read as I love this series and I can't wait to read the next book :). The school is back in session, though with more wounded dragons after a series of attacks left the dragons fighting for their survival. Bryn is getting closer to her grandparents - even her grandfather seems to be warming up to her which considering he is like the King of Dragons and a Blue - this is excellent news for Bryn. The one thing Bryn isn't too happy about is that her marriage to Jaxon is still pending especially when her feelings for her Knight Valmont are coming in thick and strong. In Trial by Fire , it does discuss a bit of background about the dangers of separation if a bonded Knight and Dragon seperate ways if the connection is still there as Bryn and Valmont discover a hidden archive of library books and scrolls. One of the parts I was hoping for with more information was about the different hybrids that they discovered at the end of Book #2. In Book #3 , Bryn meets a couple of Hybrids Adam and Eve and learns about hidden dragon communities where hybrids are seen as normal people and not the oddity she has been treated as.
If you love teen fiction , romance, dragon shifting, fantasy and a semi-fast paced novel then Book #3 in the Going Down in Flames Series - Trial by Fire is the read for you.

Thoughts: Pretty sure I’m going to go through withdrawals, this series is so good! The story moves along so quickly that you don’t even realize that half the book has been read. And it’s so hard to put down that everything else around you just disappears. Part of me wants to read it again just so I don’t have to miss the characters. This has elements of Divergent with the classes, their jobs, and no mixing. There’s also an element of Harry Potter with all the mysteries that Bryn tries to solve, a bit of the magic, and the school just for dragons. I am anxiously waiting for the next book and recommend this to anyone that likes a snarky main character who stands up for what she believes in and won’t let anyone push her around. Kudos Ms. Cannon for creating such a wonderful story that makes me crave more.

Thoughts: Pretty sure I’m going to go through withdrawals, this series is so good! The story moves along so quickly that you don’t even realize that half the book has been read. And it’s so hard to put down that everything else around you just disappears. Part of me wants to read it again just so I don’t have to miss the characters. This has elements of Divergent with the classes, their jobs, and no mixing. There’s also an element of Harry Potter with all the mysteries that Bryn tries to solve, a bit of the magic, and the school just for dragons. I am anxiously waiting for the next book and recommend this to anyone that likes a snarky main character who stands up for what she believes in and won’t let anyone push her around. Kudos Ms. Cannon for creating such a wonderful story that makes me crave more.

I really enjoyed the previous two books and was looking forward to reading this. However, it just didn't work for me. The story pretty much revolves around Bryn and her relationship woes. It's this never ending cycle of Valmont says he wants her, then says/does something that makes her doubt it, they go back and forth on all the obstacles that stand in their way, then make up, only to go through that same thing over and over again. That's pretty much the entire book. Some stuff happens at the very end of the book but then Valmont goes right back to questioning the connection between Bryn and Jaxon and their possible upcoming betrothal, and whether or not he and Bryn even have a future together. I just wish there was more meat to the story.

I was really thinking whether I wanted to take time and write a review or not.

But I do want to share:
this series is like a drug to me
Don't think it is anything special, it isn't. Sometime it isn't even interesting. 80% of the plot is the same throughout all the books and we go through the same shit.
If you feel like getting drunk I will definitely recommend this series andddd the rules:
* you drink a shot every time Bryn mentions "the lone dimple" Valmont has
* every time "he hugs her to his chest", hell make it a PARTEY and just take a swing from the bottle * every time Bryn is attacked or hurt

I really enjoy this series. I started listening to the series on audiobook, but liked it enough to buy the entire series in print form. It is obvious that things are going to happen to Bryn in each of the books, but the author does a good job at making you guess what it will be next.

Trial by Fire is the third book in the young adult paranormal series, Going Down in Flames. Like the previous two books in the series, this one picks up right where book 2, Bridges Burned leaves off, so be sure to read the previous books before starting this one. I liked Trial by Fire, but I think it is my least favorite installment of all the books so far. It is a close call, and to put this in perspective, I love this series so much, that even though this book is my least favorite so far, I still loved it!
Bryn is back at school and dealing with a lot. In fact, all of the characters are. I felt for her, for Rhiannon, Garett and Valmont. (who, by the way, I just adore so much.) There is a lot going on from the directorate, from the mystery they are uncovering, and from the threats flying around. Not to mention the emotional volleyball game that I was watching. Romance wise, this series has my head spinning. I am so freakin' confused! I spent a good bit of time flip flopping with romantic interests in the first and second book. (if you don't know what I mean, I did a good job mapping out everything I was feeling about the guys in this post HERE) And for the most part, my opinions have not really changed. I still really like Valmont, but I would be lying if I said that I didn't have my reservations. I also really like Jaxon. Don't ask me why, I know he is a jerk most of the time. But there is just something about him that makes me want to see what him and Bryn would look like. And therein lies my confusion. I like Valmont more. I think Valmont is nicer and his intentions towards Bryn are easier to see. he should be the clear team for me to ship. But alas, I am still held up on Jaxon. And I DON'T KNOW WHY! (Am I the only one that feels this way? I would really love to discuss this with someone else who has read the series. Let me know in the comments below, or drop me an email.) I was super happy to see one thing. Spoiler alert!-->
Trial By Fire does give us some much needed answers at the end of the book on the mystery front. So much of the book was centered around Bryn and her knight/bond with him, that it was nice to see the mystery develop in the middle of the book. I found myself gravitating to that plot line the most. It was less emotionally confusing for me than the romance.
Bottom line: if you are a fan of this series, Trial by Fire will read a lot like the second book. While I didn't love it as much as I loved the first one, this is still a solid young adult fantasy series. One of my favorite dragon series ever, in fact. I would recommend the Going Down in Flames series to young adult fantasy lovers everywhere. Just be warned, be prepared to be romantically confused in all of the books.

Red-blue hybrid dragon shifter Bryn McKenna has just started appreciating her grandparent’s affections, as bizarre as they are in the socially awkward world of the dragon community she lives in. Being a hybrid had at one time made Bryn an outcast, and while there are still those that don’t like her being accepted into their hierarchy, as a socially-superior blue dragon (as her mother’s parents are blue’s as well), she finally is finding a place for herself. The only problem is that her dragon only school and community are continuing to take attacks from an unknown source � one that is wounding or killing many members. But with her gallant (and handsome) knight Valmont by her side, what could really happen?
When Bryn’s grandmother insists that she move into the blue dorms so she can hopefully be more socially accepted (and kept safer and more secure), she reluctantly agrees � especially when she finds out that her once enemy Rhianna will be her new roommate � not that Jaxon, the son of the Directorate’s head approves of his girlfriend living with the likes of Bryn. But he’s just bitter seeing as if the Directorate had its way, he would be marrying Bryn and not Rhianna, due to her sever injury during one of the attacks that left her crippled. Not that Bryn is excited about the idea either � she’d much rather explore the idea of being with Valmont. So when Bryn and Rhianna’s apartment is broken into and ransacked, Bryn’s grandmother tasks Valmont with being by Bryn’s side 24 hours a day � and staying with her even overnight � as it means keeping her safe. But when Bryn still can’t help but stir up mischief, and her and Valmont find something so huge it could blow the lid on the Directorate’s whole governing, it then becomes a race of who can save Bryn from the Directorate’s whims � what will they do to keep Bryn quite?
While there was much more “romance� than fighting in this book, I still really enjoyed seeing Bryn grown and start figuring out where she stands within the dragon community � even if it means rocking a few boats along the way. Valmont’s devotion to her is so sweet and enduring, that I truly hope they are given a chance in the continuation of their story � even Jaxon deserves to be with the one he loves, even if he is a pompous jerk half the time. Bottom line, if you loved the action and not the romance Ms. Cannon’s series has see-sawed on throughout the 3 books, you may feel a bit of a letdown � but if you are anything like me, you know that an epic battle is just hanging on the precipice, ready to let loose in the next book. It’s an inevitability that the other hybrids will not rest until the Directorate takes them serious � and that in itself is what I am truly excited about! Seeing that final battle will undoubtedly be epic and not soon forgotten!

I have such mixed feelings for the world that Mrs. Cannon created, yet I still want to read more about it. When I say mixed feelings, I don't mean it in a bad way. The world she created seems very sexist and has such idiotic 'social niceties' as rules that it makes me not feel so good reading about it.
The only bright star in this novel is Bryn. She's the girl that seems to make everything happen even when the rest of the world prefer it to continue as is. I have warmed up to her grandparents, but I still can't shake the bad vibes I'm getting as I'm progressing through this series. The Directorate seems to be a bunch of men with sticks up their butts. I hate it that there have to be rebel groups to attack them for everyone to see that there's something wrong with the way they're leading the dragon population. My conspiracy theory is that the only way this series ends is with Bryn leading a well thought out revolution with marriage rights for everyone (compatible or not) and to integrate hybrids into society in a way people could get used to them existing once more (which the story did reveal) or she just up and leaves everything except her Knight behind.
I like Valmont, but I also dislike him (if that makes any sense). I like him as a character and what he brings to the story. What I find myself disliking is the weird should they or shouldn't they be together that's happening to him and Bryn. I'm not sure I want them to end up together because every little thing he says that even slightly offends Bryn, she starts with the threats of cremation. I'm not sure that's a very stable and healthy relationship. With that being said, I do want to know more about Knights and their Dragons because I do find it to be very interesting.
The ending killed me a little bit inside. Rihanna already had a lot to deal with in life and then that happens. Why was that necessary? I started imagining plot lines between Rihanna, Jaxon and Zane before he 'turned' and I found out that I really loved that possible dynamic and then the author happened. Now I'm curious to see the fall out of it all and how the story will continue.

Trial by Fire by Chris Cannon
Dun…dun…dun� the third book in the Going Down in Flames series is EPIC!
#angdown #angfriendly I can’t even! All them feely feels and more, so much happens in this book.
Our favourite Hybrid Dragon Bryn is back with her dragon and Knight Possie. For some reason I thought this was the last book in the series, but it is not! Thank god, cos seriously this series is one on my favs now.
In this edition, Bryn and her beautiful Knight *sigh* are together. Valmont is loyal, sexy and brave a true Knight. Their connection is very strong, it burst from the pages while reading their chemistry is off the hook, and to watch it unfold is perfect. It’s like you are watching it right in front of you, so much you think you can reach out and touch them� yes weird! I know, but it is who I am. How I feel when I was reading this series. Go read them and see what I mean!
In TbF we explore the Dragon/Knight bond, with so much happening in this one there was no time for breathing it’s so cool, like a roller-coaster.
I loved watching Bryan learn who she really is, watching her grow closer with her grandparents was beautiful. So many questions UN answered and then we had only a little answered.
I loved that our group of dragons grew closer, even Jaxon and Rhiannon. Jaxon could be Bryn’s Fiancé if the Directorate and their families get their own way. It could happen, now I’m not sure I want that to happen, even tho I really like Jaxon I still want to hit him in the privates!
Flawless writing, amazing world creating and perfect everything. It all flows well together, so much really does happen in this book and it leaves us wanting more. Too bad we have to wait forever for the next book.
If you haven’t read this series, I would recommend taking the weekend to pick up all three and read from beginning to present. I loved them all, I can’t believe my time with them has come to an end for now.

Another great installment in this Dragon fantasy world!
This is the 3rd book in the series and in this one, we get much more focus on the characters and their relationships. Bryn had a very exciting adventure in the second book and, due to this, has now been moved by her grandparents to live with her “clan� � the Blue dragons. This poses all kinds of issues as they do not really accept or respect her. And, to top it off, she’s much closer to Jaxon…something she doesn’t enjoy. In this book we watch as both Bryn and Jaxon begrudgingly begin to realize that their arranged marriage may indeed come to be and that they’ll need to figure out a strategy. Why? Because Bryn is in love with Valmont, her swoony knight and Jaxon is in a relationship with Rhianna…and neither particularly likes the other.
Although there was a fair amount of action towards the end of the book, the overall feel was geared towards helping the reader get more intimate with these characters. We saw relationships formed, friendships strained, family become closer and romance bud. This story provided insights into how these characters interacted and information about how the Dragon society is really run. For those of you who strictly like action, this may feel a bit slower than the other books but, in reality, I think that this book adds the depth that the reader needs to understand the feelings, vulnerabilities, and even the limitations of these characters. I think it’s a necessary step to further immerse the reader in this world. Add to that a mystery which Bryn and Valmont uncover, and a painful truth about their relationship that neither knew about, and this book was definitely a page-tuner, especially at the end when all of it comes to light!
As always, the writing was wonderful and Ms. Cannon’s imagination shines through in the world-building. I am braced for more adventures to come and silently hoping for a Bryn/Valmont HEA (yes, I ship that!). Of course, you never now what will happen next and where the author will take us. But I do know that I’ll likely enjoy every minute of it!

The third installment of the Going Down in Flames series, Trail by Fire continues the tale of Bryn the teenage hybrid dragon. Faced with the oppressive culture and governing body of the dragon population, Bryn tries to blend into her new culture, without being assassinated. To aid her in that endeavor is her own personal, attractive, and magical knight. With him on her side, she will navigate the political world full of danger, murder and magic.
Overly political, boring, slow, Trial by Fire was my least favorite novel in the series. It seems as if the strong, independent and interesting girl from the other novels seems to have killed off and replaced with a cowardly normal person. She wasn't all terrible, but she was missing that spark I had loved so much in her from before. Although highly political, there was some genuinely cute romantic scenes. Bryn and her knight were a cute couple and had some good romantic tension going on. The romance was good, but not good enough to make up for such a dull and political plot. I give Trial by Fire TWO AND A HALF STARS OUT OF FIVE!!!

So when I started this series way back when, I loved it. Now reading the third book in the series I still feel the same way. This book has more dragons, more knights, and more angsty Jaxson. I didn't know what to expect when I started this book. I knew that I was going to like it, but I was unaware that I was going to not want to go to sleep (I did) while I was in the middle of reading it. I was also unaware that my kindle was dangerously close to dying (it did). When I woke up this morning, even before my coffee had stopped brewing, I started reading it again. Granted, I did have to go back and re-read what my non-caffeinated brain had read. As I sat there reading Trial By Fire, I felt like I was there. I felt like I was watching everything first hand. The mystery that is in Trial By Fire keeps you guessing on what is going on. There is magic in this book, and Chris Cannon has captured it!
I love reading what Chris puts out. She writes like she has been writing for years. She has a fan for life from me! I hope that you read all of this series!! You will not be disappointed at all!!!

I thought Bryn was going to make changes "in a big way" during this book, but she's actually doing something better. She's making changes and, they don't even see it yet or at least the Directorate doesn't.
We saw Bryn and Valmont's relationship change a lot this time around too. Valmont is not as confident as I thought he was in the previous books. It was nice to see he had some vulnerabilities, and wasn't always so cocky. I'm still Team Jaxon. There is more to him than the "ass hat". something more there. Right?
I'm crazy addicted to this series!

I love Bryn and Valmont together although they each have their own issues to work on. Bryn's abandonment issues and Valmont's inferiority issues.
I can't believe the bond almost made Bryn die! O.o It's obviously very serious stuff.
I can't believe the Directorate messed with Clint! -.- Thank god Ivy loves him or they might never have figured it out!
Poor Bryn having to bleed to open the wall. Wish she could kiss Valmont instead. At least she and Valmont got cool toys out of it. :P

Another great entry in the Going Down in Flames series, full of sass, humor, a dash of danger, and the ongoing question of Brynn and Jaxon...will they or won't they? I look forward to the next one in this series!

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 3rd in the Going Down in Flames series and ends in an HEA. Bryn is still being targeted for attack. He knight, Valmont, is now acting as her bodyguard 24/7. Bryn and Valmont are quickly falling for each other, but whether their feelings are truly theirs or only due to the knight/dragon bond is unknown. Bryn is a very strong young woman. She deals with attacks, both verbally, mentally and physically.
>The reasonings behind the Directorates actions are a bit clearer, but there are rebels still trying to change things in a revolutionary way. Jaxon and Rhianna’s engagement is broken due to Rhianna being injured. Jaxon goes from being tolerable to a jerk again. Bryn works hard to try and keep the injured students from being kicked out of school. There are a lot of parallels to the Nazis and their visions of the perfect race. The existence of more hybrids is revealed, causing panic. Bryn learns from her grandmother how to work within the Blue system and get their way.
>This book is appropriate for a young adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. The action is exciting. I wish there was a bit more humor and romance, but the story is compelling.

I stayed up almost all night to read the third installment in the Going Down in Flames series and regret nothing.
This is so action-packed, with twists I didn't see coming, and finally, other hybrids are making themselves known in at least a slightly good way, instead of wanting to kill the Directorate. Bryn isn't sure who to trust outside of Valmont, Ivy, Clint, Rhianna, and surprisingly...Jaxon.
Yes, you read that right. JAXON. WESTGATE.
Zavien makes a few brief appearances and I hoped that she would singe his hair and Nola's stupid flowy dresses, but, no. What a shame.
The bond between Bryn and Valmont is getting stronger, but not in all the right ways. I foresee heartbreak in their future soon. Jealousy and miscommunication still make things difficult, but at least they're starting to realize how to communicate in a way where they may not like what the other has to say, but at least they know where they stand through it all.

What... another love interest for Bryn!!! Well, I wasn't sure I could be shocked again with this series but I have been proved wrong. This is the third instalment in the Going Down in Flames series featuring Bryn. A wild ride of amazing dragon drama.
At this time it feels like I am returning to school and catching up with old friends. It's a similar feeling to what I felt when I read the Harry Potter series. I am binge reading this series and loving every single minute.
There is a strong focus on Valmont, Bryn and their knight - dragon connection. I feel Valmont is a viable option for Bryn and a good balance for her snark. I can only compare this to Throne of Glass where I am torn between male love interests as each new book unfolds.
The politics and school are also touched upon and are an element that I particularly enjoy with this series. There is the betrothal that is touched upon again and really pushed when Bryn meets her grandparents.
There you go... Harry Potter meets Throne of Glass with dragons. What are you waiting for?
