Lethal Game

Rate this book
The sparks of unexpected passion ignite in this electrifying GhostWalker novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

When Malichai Fortunes attacks a problem, he does it full force–a habit that earns the GhostWalker a painful injury and a forced vacation in San Diego, California. With nothing but physical therapy on the horizon, Malichai is starting to get restless…until a striking blue-eyed blonde makes all his senses come alive.

Amaryllis is kind and warm and sees beyond Malichai’s rough exterior, but he can tell there’s something she’s hiding. Her innate healing abilities indicate she might be a GhostWalker–albeit an untrained one. Malichai doesn’t think their crossing paths is anything more than coincidence, but he can sense that one wrong word could send Amaryllis running.

When strange events at his temporary retreat put Malichai on high alert, he knows he won’t be able to deal with the threat and keep his woman safe in his weakened state. But calling in his brothers means telling Amaryllis what he really is, and revealing that he knows the truth about her too

It took me eight days to finish this book. Not because it was boring. Not because it was difficult to read. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this book. It's just that I wanted to savor this story for as long as possible. The hero that Christine Feehan created in Malichai was a man who was perfect in his every imperfection. Sold by his mom for drugs, he grew up on the streets with his brothers, learning to survive and ended up becoming the most compassionate, patient, understanding person I've probably ever had the pleasure to read about.

In the military, Malichai was a soldier and a doctor. He put himself constantly in danger, rescuing wounded soldiers under heavy assault. He was relentess, tireless, courageous and dangerous. He was a GhostWalker, meaning he was enhanced through experimentation, giving him more gifts than were covered in this book. He was sweet and kind, always willing to give a hand, and extremely protective. When he's injured during a rescue, he's forced to take a vacation and ends up meeting Amaryllis. Immediately he suspects she's also a GhostWalker and when strange things start happening in and around the B&B he's staying at, it's either continue to ignore what's right in front of him, or contact his brothers and admit that he knows just what she is. Hopefully the truth doesn't destroy the love that these two are beginning to share.

This may be one of my favorite books by Feehan so far, for no other reason than Malichai. Honestly, he was incredible and I'd easily recommend this read simply for you to be amazed by its hero. The side characters, the heroine, and the plot were also amazing, making them icing on the most scrumptious of cakes!

*May Contain Spoilers*

Lethal Game is the latest release from Berkley and Christine Feehan and this addition is the latest towards the Ghostwalkers series. I am just in love with this series, I am not going to lie in that some books I have struggled with at times, but this book *sigh* I had no issues and didn't have darker elements like some installments in the past have had. There is so much goodness in these suspense books that she has built up in this series and I have truly loved the evidence of research Feehan I am sure does to craft these books because each book it shows this whether it's scientific or medical .....I am always pleased to see it happen.

The story sets off with blasting the reader into an action scene, where our hero is on a rescue team, he is part of the paratrooper team that goes in and rescues teams under fire and is also a medical doctor. On his current mission, his leg gets fractured while trying to save his men and barely survives. When his leg doesn't heal fast enough, and as a Ghostwalker, it should be healing faster than it currently is, his team sends him to California to heal up and be on vacation. Well, Malichai doesn't do so well on vacations, meaning he has NO clue how to even take them. He meets a young woman, who he is drawn to and realizes she must be a fellow Ghostwalker. At first, he isn't sure if she is on the run or could be an enemy out to hunt him down as he is a threat to Dr. Whitney. But discovers more about Amaryllis. Amaryllis has been on the run and escaped one of Whitney's facilities and has been at the inn for about a year. But when a mystery crops up, the danger around the corner and a sexy military man in her line of sight, her life isn't as simple as she imagined it would be. Now there is a terrorist threat, and it will take Malichai and Amaryllis working together to save innocent lives but along the way they discover a delightful passion in each other

What a fabulous addition to the Ghostwalker series and I loved every moment of this story. Now it wasn't quite as in my feels like the previous book "Toxic Game" turned out for me but it was a bit different but I really loved the mystery.... which there are two in this story. The first we have is the mystery of the terrorist threat and then we have the mystery of the damage done to Malichai's leg. There is more going on with it, and even though Amaryllis has psychic healing abilities, his team will have to come in and try to save his leg. So much intrigue in this story and even though there is suspense.....the tone of the story is solving these two mysteries. I just love a good mystery, it's my nirvana in romance, so I was hooked....line....and sinker in this book. I was on the edge the whole way through and this book (like ALL of Feehan's) was such a page-turner and couldn't get enough of the story and the way it develops.

The romance that develops was also unique for Feehan, and it is a bit hard to explain what was so different from some of her other books to be honest. Even though there is some element of the "instant love" connection that we do find in her books there is also more of a slowly built love between Malichai and Amaryllis. There is a level of trust that needs to be built between them and see that bridge form between these two was so beautiful. There are so many heartfelt moments, and *sigh* the romantic moments of chemistry and emotional connection was right on point. We get all the fun characters from the team including a surprise visit from some old favorites.....the Colorado twins Ken and Jack Norton.

Overall I was beyond charmed by Lethal Game.....a story so charming and devised in sensuality, thrilling dangers, and pure romance portrayed.....I guarantee you will fall in love just as this reader has! BRILLIANCE IN EVERY PAGE!

Lethal Game is the newest book in Christine Feehan’s GhostWalker series. And, I can tell you, I enjoyed every second of Malichai’s and Amaryllis’s story.

Malichai is forced on a “vacation. Not ever taking a vacation or now how to act on one, Malichai is struggling to “enjoy it. Until he starts interacting with his vacation hosts, which include Amaryllis as one of the staff.

Amaryllis is one of the GhostWalkers that have escaped. Living on the run, she never stays in one place to long…until she finds employment at the B&B in the San Diego area. Here she has found a home until Malichai comes to visit and everything about her is drawn to him.

I have to admit, this might be one of my favorite reads in the GhostWalker series. Lethal Game has a great plot, amazing hero and heroine and even fabulous secondary characters. But it doesn’t end there. The steamy, sensual character connections are met with the perfect balance of true, and deeply imaginative storytelling.

I received this ARC copy of Lethal Game from Berkley - Penguin Random House LLC. This is my honest and voluntary review. This book is set for publication March 2020.

Malichai is forced on a vacation, and has no clue what to do with himself, than is until he starts the lovely Amaryllis, who is one of the staff at the B&B he is staying at. Amaryllis is a GhostWalker, she escaped and refuses to ever be in the clutches of those who trapped her. that have escaped. She never stays in one place to long, drawn to Malichai the urge to run when she realises who he is strong

I enjoyed the first books in the GhostWalkers series and do re-read on occasion, but sadly I can't say the same about this. The MCs lacked a sizzling connection, the story felt too similar to the books that had come before, and I just wasn't drawn in.

Lethal Game is the latest outstanding continuation of Christine Feehan’s action-packed Ghostwalker series. This novel delivers even more action and adventure with main characters Malichai Fortune and his wonderful heroine, the mysterious Amaryllis, as the lead couple.

Malichai’s team is a branch of highly specialized and enhanced men and women who go in and rescue soldiers injured or captured behind enemy lines. Malichai is badly injured in a recent rescue mission and he is ordered to take a vacation by his team and family. It was sweet when a reluctant Malichai describe who his shooter grandmother and force of nature, Nonny, along with his teammates triplet toddlers randomly picked a bed and breakfast in San Diego near the ocean for Malichai to rest and recuperate.

As fate would have it, Malichai meets waitress Amaryllis at the B&B and immediately he is drawn to her and suspicious as well, thinking that Amaryllis may be one of the nefarious Dr. Peter Whitney’s experiments, orphaned girls Whitney acquire, enhanced, experimented on, and chemically paired with Whitney male enhance specimens.

Regardless of his initial apprehension, Malichai and Amaryllis make a wonderful couple and team. I was rooting for this couple the entire book. I enjoyed every aspect of Lethal Game because the story and plot are a perfect blend of action, suspense, and romance. Very highly recommended!

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The sixteenth installment of the Ghostwalkers series, Lethal Game was full of enhanced super soldiers, political plots, family, and love. Some would say I have no business jumping into a series at #16, and they could be right, but when I read the synopsis I was intrigued and wanted to give the story a chance. The author does a great job of informing any new readers to the backstory of Ghostwalkers, scientifically enhanced soldiers, without info dumping. I was completely locked in when the story started off with Air Force para-rescuers, Malichai and Rubin, set down in the mountains of Afghanistan as they help rescue a group of injured soldiers pinned down. Malichai and Rubin's powers are revealed as they telepathically speak to each other and have super strength and speed. Malichai ends up getting grievously injured and is forced to take some vacation time, this is when he meets our heroine.

He was dangerous to her in more ways than was good for either of them.

Amaryllis is also a Ghostwalker, one that escaped from Dr. Whitney (the mad scientists behind enhancing humans) and is on the run. When Malichai ends up staying at the bed and breakfast she is currently working at, they both sense something in the other. Their attraction was instant and although they both were a little wary, it was around the 30% mark that these two were pretty much already together. I missed more of an emotional growing attraction and some of the push/pull that can happen. Along with Amaryllis being on the run from Whitney and an enhanced soldier named Owen that feels Amaryllis needs to be punished for showing him up, Malichai and Amaryllis seem to have stumbled upon a planned terrorist attack that is headed by individuals in their own American government. I thought this plot was completely unneeded as it confused and clogged the story at times.

“I pay attention to detail because you count. You matter.

Falling in love with Amaryllis and trying to ferret out the terrorist plot, Malichai is also dealing with the injury to his leg that just won't heal. This is where the author brings up past characters from the series and some past plot threads. I still never felt overwhelmed but around the last 20%, it is pretty much full on a collection of series characters and some particular angst following a past couple. Frequent readers of the series will probably enjoy revisiting them but I wanted more of a focus on Malichai and Amaryllis. They worked well together but the quickness that they got together and then lack of focus on them, made this feel less like a romance than a Ghostwalker book. The story also had a tendency to get very repetitive, a lot of character inner dialogue would then be repeated as outer; a good amount of editing needed to be done to clean this story up.

“Baby, you aren’t hearing me when I talk to you. I’ve been all over the world. In just about every country. I’ve looked for you. I’ve actively looked for you. I didn’t think you actually existed. There is no way, after finding you, that I’m going to wait to tell you how I feel. I know the real thing because I saw so many others who weren’t. You’re right for me. You’re always going to be right for me. Now, or ten years from now. It won’t matter. We fit. I told you this already.

Amaryllis and Malichai's romance developed too quickly for me and the terrorist plot felt jammed in but the overall theme involving how humans become Ghostwalkers was interesting. With groups of Ghostwalkers living in Montana, San Francisco, and Malichai's in Louisiana, I'll have to go back to the beginning and read about how it all started. With two women who escaped with Amaryllis still out there and some fellow Ghostwalker brothers of Malichai needing their own heroines, this series looks to still have threads to follow.

Hummm, haven't started this yet. I have a feeling that it will be much like the last 5 or 6 books. More of the same with the "good" Dr. still on the lamb. I love how on another big series the bad guys changed out every three or four books. Let me know if you read this before me, what your thoughts are. <<<<< ------ SHUT THE FRONT DOOR WAS I EVER WRONG !

REVIEW:

⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱ I LOVED THIS ⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱
FIVE FREAKING AWESOME STARS !!

Ms Feehan is back with a solid plot. The story unfolds at a great pace and holds your attention for the entire ENTIRE book. After the last few books in this series (all kind of similar) (really, the last few books didn’t grab my attention ) THIS book worked for me. Fast paced but also has a great suspenseful side. The secondary characters were great. They were all easy to get to know and they made the book really work well.

All of the books in the Ghostwalker series are “love at first sight plots. Each couple was genetically made for each other. This is something that Ms Feehan has to work around in every book. This EASILY became my favorite in the series after the first few chapters. It was hard to put down, I didn’t want the book to end. The beginning of the book starts out with an explosive action scene. It sets the pace for the entire book. You are treated to multiple mysteries and great dialogue.

Milichai was simply the best. He had such a wonderful personality. A “can do guy, that can accept what needs to be done to live good and right. Amaryllis a solid strong woman is every way his compliment.

⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱ ENJOYED EVERY SECOND ⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱

I have to also say, this was unexpectedly more of a romance, A special treat from Ms Feehan. This was a step above the usual. More of a connection between both the H/H than in her other books.

Have fun, read this.. I hope hope hope the next book goes in this direction !

⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱ AMAZINGBALLS ! ⋰⋱*⋰⋱*⋰⋱
Enjoy ~

Christine Feehan is usually one of my go-to authors that I truly enjoy reading. Unfortunately, this installment of the Ghostwalker series did not draw me in. I really thought that I would enjoy Malichai’s story but honestly had a hard time throughout the book.

I was confused with the number of characters and the part that played throughout the story. They all kind of ran together to the point where I had a hard time keeping track of who was who and what they would mean to the overall story.

I also had a problem with the timelines. Everything seemed to have happened extremely quick between Malichai and Amaryllis. From meeting to giving her a ring was less than a week but then he talks about ordering the ring the week before. I was confused with the order of things. With how people just came and went or were killed. And then the hate then trust issue with Whitney. They fought to keep away from Whitney but then were working with him in the end.

The story line would have been really interesting if there weren’t so many people involved. I enjoyed the bantering between Malichai, Amaryllis and the other members of the Ghostwalkers. They threw a little lightness into a dark story. And, I would have love a little more of Jacy.

So, unfortunately, Lethal Game didn’t do it for me. I would have liked it a lot more if there were half the characters and if the story was spread out a little more than a week. I was thrilled that Amaryllis trusted Malichai and accepted her status as being part of the Ghostwalker family.

I liked the second half of this a lot more then the first. It was very inst-love in the first half, but then the couple really goes through some hard stuff together and it solidified their relationship more for me. Really loved that we got to see lots of characters from previous books and catch up with their lives a little bit. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Lethal Game continues the Ghostwalkers series and I am really loving it! Malichai is an enhanced super soldier who was recently injured on a mission. To his dismay, he must now take a "vacation". While at a cute bed and breakfast in California, he meets Amaryllis, a worker at the B and B who is most certainly hiding something. Challenge accepted!

Malichai is a badass super soldier for sure, but seeing him in a noncombat setting, doing domestic things like fixing a dishwasher really made him a dynamic character. He breaks a lot of the trends of male heroes-he isn't conceited, he isn't a whore, and he values kindness. Amaryllis is a mystery in the beginning (to both the reader and Malichai) but it was entertaining to see Malichai peel back the layers! Amaryllis' history was intriguing and I really appreciated how developed her character was in Lethal Game.

Don't let the cute, sea side setting fool you-there is still plenty of action and danger. However, the plot of Lethal Game doesn't have some of the super dark elements that some of Feehan's books harbor. I thought it was kind of a nice change (I read Vendetta Road last month and it was VERY dark). While I have not read all the books in the Ghostwalkers series, Lethal Game makes me want to read more of them for sure! If you like a touch of paranormal/supernatural with your suspense, Lethal Game delivers in spades. It also gives you some GREAT characters that will hold a place in my heart for sure.

POV: 3rd

Trope: military
Triggers: none
Series/Standalone: stand alone (this is part of a LONG series, but you could pick this one up and not feel totally lost)

Ms Feehan has long ago proved herself a master of romance and paranormal to me, but I think I need to add suspense to the list. Lethal Game, definitely, has an edge of your seat energy woven through it. There’s a sense of 'waiting for the other shoe to drop' even as you’re immersed in fun witty banter and the building of trust and love between the main characters. A brilliant building of discovery and surprises beyond the obvious. This story grabs your heart in chapter one and has you engaged in Malichai’s future path through each page.

One of the brave members of GhostWalker Team 4 Pararescue, Malichai volunteered with his brothers to be enhanced genetically by Dr Whitney. He lives his life by the strength of character and generous heart he developed by choices he made on the streets of Chicago, long before he entered the GW program. They grew stronger as he bonded with his chosen family in the Bayou. Now he puts his life on the line to protect those on the front line, including innocents and victims. He puts other lives above his own and it’s a natural response in him. His one dream, which he feels is eluding him, is to find his partner, his angel. Until he is injured and goes to a B&B, chosen by a little girl, to recover. Here he meets Amaryllis. The one he’s been searching for. But why is she there and so many other questions come with finding her. And the nagging sense he gets that something isn’t right.

Amaryllis, one of Whitney’s Orphans, has been told she didn’t fit in with society, no one wanted her, she was a throw away. The the only way her life had meaning was through the horrid experiments meant to discover what could enhance the elite soldiers. Train to be an assassin to keep their secrets safe. She is intelligent and observant and had a strong survival instinct for herself and others. She escaped Whitney when she discovered the skills she'd developed took her off the assassin path and put onto the breeding, and worse, death path. She’d learned not to trust off the cuff but to observe and evaluate…so when the big tough looking man appeared, at the B&B she’d found refuge working in with the family who gave her a place peaks her interest, that’s just what she does.

I love the way Christine unfolds their relationship, true courtship and mystery solving. She shows, by example, with this couple and other occurrences, that pheromones and DNA pairing does not guarantee love. So much more is needed. They learn to trust and open up to each other. Love builds between them into a strong lasting bond. Its not just the spoken words, but the way they treat each other, people they know and don’t know. And how all those people treat them. There are truly some sweet, heart touching moments that have you sighing, how could you not love Malichai. Amaryllis comes to recognize Malichai as hers. She opens herself to a feeling of belonging and purpose, she never felt before, among the Team.

This is all woven through the warning bells going off in Malichai’s head and trying to figure out if they are for himself, those he loves, or something disastrous that could be threatening thousands. The Storyline slowly and beautifully unravels the dangers and concerns with the help of his team. Malichai, true to himself, acts to gather information and to protect even at great cost to himself. All culminates at the moment Malichai must not only face his greatest fear but charge right through it to save innocent lives. He’s all the stronger because he knows he has a partner in life no matter what, and family love and support, giving him determination that can make it through anything. He is truly one of Ms Feehan’s strongest characters and Amaryllis grows into the perfect match for him.

As usual, The Action and the romance are perfectly balanced for the story and seeds are planted for future books, even for the other Teams. And Whitney remains one of the most diabolical villains I’ve ever read!

LETHAL GAME by Christine Feehan is book 16 in the Ghost Walkers Series. This is the story of Malichai and Amaryllis. I haven't yet read the previous book, so for me this was a standalone book. I will say this author's writing allows for that with her writing but I did feel I would have love to have read the previous character's story line since some where in this book. Malichai has been forced to take a vacation to heal physically and mentally after very bad assignment the Ghost Walkers were on. Never having done a vacation and used to always be on alert he isn't having a good time. Then he meets Amaryllis who works at the place he is staying and he feel an intimidate connection but he knows she is hiding something. Amaryllis is on the run and doesn't usually stay in one place long but she has enjoyed her time at the Inn and has built a friendship, but she knows that Malichai is dangerous but is he what she needs?
With Ms. Feehan books you get the steamy scene, alpha male, strong heroine and story line that keeps you turning pages! Loved this book.

Malachai's story! If you've read the series then you've been waiting for this, plus you'll see some of your favorite past couples.

Some might feel like there are too many twists and conspiracy theories but focus on the love story - you will want to hug it to yourself as you wipe away a stray tear.

When Malichai Fortunes suffers an injury, he is strongly encouraged to take a vacation to California to recoup. He does not relax well and finds himself getting friendly with the staff of the B&B he is staying at.

Amaryllis is beautiful, sweet, and seems to also have some special gifts. He is sure she is one of Whitney's experiments, but it is a delicate balance between outing himself or her. But as they spend time together it is obvious that they are drawn together. These books are almost always insta-love, but it has been established that Whitney created bonded pairs so it does not bother me that they form quick attractions and attachments.

And Malichai seems to be having issues healing and the situation is becoming more dire and will require assistance from his brothers. And that means exposing his secrets to Amaryllis and hoping she does not run scared.

And strange things seem to be happening around them. Whispers of murder, attacks, threats, and a possible large scale target. So this Ghostwalker vacation is anything but peaceful and relaxing...it might just be as deadly as any mission.

I was engaged from the start and enjoyed the storyline and the end, but somewhere in the middle it started to drag and seem somewhat tedious to me and it took me longer to read it. These books are always longer than most usual romance reads and have a lot of detail so it is understandable. There were a lot of antagonists, conspiracies, and events to keep track of leading up to the climax. But I loved Malichai and Amaryllis, and how they were able to explore their new relationship and build trust. And also how his brothers and teammates rallied around him while Malichai was going through a difficult situation. My heart hurt for him and what he was dealing with.

This installment brings suspense, action, mystery, romance, steam, and emotion. This world is so richly crafted and intertwined. This brings back his brothers Ezekiel and Mordichi as well as many of the other Ghostwalkers. I love revisiting all of the unique characters with their special skills. They are such a devoted and accepting group. I hope that we see his brother, Mordichi or his old friend, Rubin get a story next.

Lethal Game by Christine Feehan
GhostWalkers Book 16
Release Date: 03/03/2020
Review by: Slavica G Kukich
Lethal Game is Book 16 in the GhostWalker series. Christine Feehan wrote a storyline that grabbed my attention and would not let go. I love this couple. Both Malichai and Amaryllis are strong characters and hold their own throughout the book. Those of us that have been reading Christine Feehan books for the last twenty years know that the story line is character driven. Lethal Game is no exception, and when Malichai needs his team to protect the woman he loves, guess who shows up? Wyatt Fontenot (Viper Game), Trap Dawkins (Spider Game), Ezekiel Fortunes (Power Game), and Draden Freeman (Toxic Game); as always they are there for him.
Dr. Malichai Fortunes is a physician and trained solder, a GhostWalker with acute sense of eyesight, smell and hearing. He can climb mountains silent and fast. Swim underwater without taking a breath. During the last mission Malichai was severely hit sustaining injuries to his thigh and leg. His family has chosen for him a B&B in San Diego, where he has been ordered to rest, recuperate and continue with his therapy by swimming daily. Malichai never expected to meet someone like Amaryllis. His attraction to her was instant. He wanted to be a man on vacation having a summer fling, yet he was very much afraid that in meeting Amaryllis he was meeting one of Whitney’s experiments and a GhostWalker. The attraction between the two of them is undeniable. She has everything he admires the most in a woman. Then, when the couple staying at the B&B is found dead Malichai request the help of his team.
Amaryllis Johnson never expected to meet a man like Malichai. She was a loner. She grew up alone, she worked alone, and she escaped from Whitney alone. Yet, she found herself being attracted to Malichai and those golden eyes. He appealed to her as no other male ever did. Amaryllis thinks of herself a misfit; Whitney’s mistake not a GhostWalker and dares not to dream of the future Malichai is offering.
If you are a fan of GhostWalker series you know that wherever GhostWalkers are found, action, suspense, mystery and romance follow and you will not be able to put this book down until you are finished. Want to live longer? Read a book, and until next time happy reading!

My favorite author and series delivered again ❣️ All I loved and expected about the GhostWalkers were exquisitely displayed in amazing details. The HEA couple, Malichai and Amaryllis, were, literally, created only for each other. The slow beginning when they learned about and got to know each other was gorgeously paced.

The way everything I loved kept happening throughout made me feel like the author could read my mind and detect my wishes. Then wrote them all out, just for me! Oh, yeah, I was totally ecstatic! Some examples of my wishes materialized:

❣️when my other favorite GW characters from various books showed up to assist Malichai and Amaryllis complete their mission;

❣️how Malichai's family, both by blood and by heart, accepted Amaryllis into their heart;

❣️how Wyatt's two-year-old little triplets helped with the search for a good location for Malichai's vacation and recovery;

❣️but the very best was the Epic Final Battle scene🔥 The must-read scene 💥 💥 Totally filled my blood-thirsty heart with pure glee 💥

Concluded this review with a very special birthday scene of 🎈😍 Axel & Drusilla 🎈Plus one more of my favorite scenes:

💎"You're amazing. This childbirth thing isn't for wimps, it is making me hungry. When Amaryllis gives birth, I might have to have a buffet set up in the room."

To his astonishment, Cayenne turned her head to look at him. There was a hint of laughter in her eyes. "You eat while she's in labor and I can guarantee you that you won't live out the night. If she doesn't do you in, the rest of the women will, including Nonna."

Even Trip laughed. The terrible tension in the room was dispelled.

💎💎"I'll always have this. I'll always have you. I love you so much, baby."

"I love you, Malichai. Go to sleep, honey, I'll watch over you."

Nice, brother. I'm proud of you.

Sometimes Ezekiel didn't know when to leave it alone. The burn of tears was back just because he was too damned emotional. . . this was about keeping Amaryllis. She would have gone. She would have traded her life for his leg. He saw that clearly on her face, read it in her mind. She loved him that much.

An emotional rollercoaster ride with this unique "band of brothers!"

LETHAL GAME is an emotional roller coaster ride! You'll smile, laugh and feel your heart break for this unique "band of brothers." We have a wonderful story of romance, suspense, murder, intrigue, and add in a potential Terrorist attack on the Ideas For Peace Conference held at the San Diego Convention Center. What group is behind the attack? Is this a new enemy of the Ghostwalkers? Who can they trust in the government? The plot thickens!

Malichai Fortunes is such a wonderful character. He's loyal, a humorous guy, and loves his family. But, Malichai's lonely, seeing his brothers, and friends finding love. Malichai meets Amaryllis while on vacation, relaxing, and allowing his leg heal from a previous mission, and realizes she one on the "girls" from Whitney group, and a Ghostwalker. Amaryllis is a breath of fresh air, that's trying to find her place in the world, and be happy, while constantly watching her back. She isn't so scarred by Whitney that she ignores her own needs, and is open to falling in love. This is a very romantic story, and couple. We see some of of the members from the other GW teams, and get an update on Trap, and Cayenne's pregnancy. :-)

While I still enjoy this series, this book is the exact same formula. A ghostwalker comes in contact with a woman whom he seems to find irresistible, and lo and behold, she happens to be one of Dr. Whitney's enhanced females whom he wanted to bred with his ghostwalkers. I am amazed that Doctor Whitney has now figured out how to splice more animals like elephant DNA and other weird insects as if spider DNA wasn't enough. Malaichai and Amaryllis were interesting just like the other couples, the genius doctor made sure they had chemistry. I like how Malaichai was on vacation and happened to run into a hiding Ghostwalker.

What really made this story even better was the integration of the other couples and the Matriarch Noni. This story was bigger than their love story, there was contact with the dreadful Whitney. When is the Government going to arrest this mad scientist for crimes against humanity?

Another emotional and suspenseful read

It took me a while to warm up to this series and I constantly have to wonder why that was because each read now is one I savor. The stories have all the elements I look for and have come to expect from this author heart-pinging emotion, stomach-jumping tension and always family and love And the opening chapter of this read? Yeah, turn the lights up high and cuddle up as it was unsettling as it was intense (and oh so good)!

Malichai and his brothers had come through a lot together. Somehow, they grew stronger and their bonds never wavered. They found only more love and support with a new family with brothers and sisters, and a Nonny, they could always rely on. Sidelined by a brutal injury, away from the land and people he loved, Amaryllis was as unexpected as the danger they both found themselves in. If I had any thought their courtship would be ordinary that quickly was set aside as mysterious events escalated to terror-level threat

Malichai and Amaryllis were amazing as their strong personalities and unique skills came together to solidify their bond as they battled more than one dangerous situation. They needed even more of that strength to overcome old fears and new challenges. With family at their side, this was a roller coaster ride, a true heart in your throat read that left me reaching for the first book in the series. Again ~Diane, 4.5 stars

Malichai and his team are GhostWalker's which are enhanced humans with special powers. They had been experimented on for a long time but now he and his teammates work for the military and go on hard missions. After a rather hard mission trying to save some soldiers and getting shot a few times, Malichai decides to go on vacation for a while and let his leg fully heal. He stays at a B&B and meets Amaryllis who works there. He's attracted to her right away but can tell there's something more to her that he can't quite put his finger on.

While on vacation at the B&B, two men come to Malichai and ask for his help not knowing who he is but because he's big and looks mean. He has to get some of his team involved when it looks like there's something shady going on with some of the people staying at the B&B. When people end up dead and others have near misses with death, they know that something is going on but they don't know what or why for a while. That storyline brings about a lot of action with Malichai and his team but when Malichai's leg starts to get worst instead of better, his team and family make an appearance to try and figure out what's going on all the while still trying to stop the bad guys from doing whatever they plan on doing.

The romance between Malichai and Amaryllis is so hot and sweet. She's had such a hard life and doesn't know if she can trust him or his teammates and always seems to be waiting for someone to say she's not good enough for him and is then surprised when it doesn't happen. She has reason to be scared and not to trust easily but that's what made Malichai such a great alpha hero because he made it easy for her to fall for him and trust him.

I've really been enjoying this series, the unique premise of the GhostWalker's, the action, romance, and danger has me hooked and ready to read each book that releases.

I WISH I COULD GIVE LETHAL GAME 10 STARS!!! THIS STORY IS AWESOME.
AUDIBLE EDITIONS: Excellent narration by Jim Frangione

I don't even know where to start with my review. Letha Game is that Awesome to read. This story is a rollercoaster of Action, Suspense, Love, and a Salute to our Wounded Military Soldiers!! Thank You for Your Service.

The story starts out with Malichai and Rubin rescuing our trapped and wounded soldiers in Afghanistan. Malichai's leg is shot to pieces by machine guns. Just as Malichai thinks he is going to died Rubin shows up and carries him out. I think Rubin might be our next GW story. The bones in Malichai's leg refuse to heal. He is sent to a B & B in California to recover. Amaryllis is working at the B&B she has escaped from one of Dr. Whitney's facilities. Her and Malichai have been pared together. There is an immediate attraction between the two.

Malichai and Amaryllis are perfect together. There is NOT a lot of sex scenes in this story. This couple bonds like soulmates. There comradery is beautifully written. Malichai and Amaryllis are now on my list of favorite GW couples. Like Kadan Montague and Tansy Medows from Murder Game, Jack and Brony Norton from Conspiracy Game, Kane and Rose Ruthless Game and last but not lest Ken an Mari Norton from Deadly Game. These are my all time top couples in The GW series. Now I can add Malichai and Amaryllis Lethal Game.

Lethal Game moves fast and we get to visit with the Jack and Ken Norton from team 2. All of team 4 shows up and shows out. The GW women married into team 4 show up. They kick Butt. They show off. It was good to revisit them. These are some fierce deadly women.

We get a big surprise from Trap and Cayenne. I love this scene so much. I was so happy for them. But then sad times come for one of our GW's which I cried for. But he will recover and he will be better and faster then ever.

I couldn't believe the ending with Trap and Dr. Whitney going at each other. It was a bit funny. But what is Whitney up to next? Hmmm!! Great Ending!! but we are just going to have to wait for next year to find out what Whitney meant when he told Trap You See!!.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND LETHAL GAME. I LOVED IT!!

LETHAL GAME is the sixteenth instalment in Christine Feehan’s contemporary, adult GHOSTWALKERS erotic, paranormal romantic suspense series focusing on an elite group (4 teams) of enhanced men and women known as the Ghostwalkers (GW). These ‘super soldiers were once part of an unauthorized government experiment performed by Dr. Peter Whitney but several soldiers have, since, opted into the program on their own. This is US Air Force pararescue medic Malachai Fortunes, and B&B employee Amaryllis story line. LETHAL GAME can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

Told from several third person perspectives including Malachai and Amaryllis LETHAL GAME follows in the aftermath of a rescue that went horribly wrong. Shot several times while trying to rescue a number of American soldiers injured and caught behind enemy lines in Afghanistan, Malachai Fortunes would use a second-generation ‘zenith patch to stop the bleeding before seeking medical help but Malachai would quickly discover that not all was going according to plan when a forced leave would reveal the continuing deterioration of his injured leg. Meeting Amaryllis, at a B&B in San Diego, California found our hero instantly attracted to a woman who was obviously part of Whitney’s orphan’s experiment. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Malachai and Amaryllis; the discovery of a home-grown terrorist plot; and the on-going breakdown of Malachai’s leg.

The relationship between Malachai and Amaryllis is one of immediate attraction but Amaryllis knows to reveal the truth could mean imminent death if anyone were to find out our heroine had enhanced, super powers. A psychic healer injected with several animal and insect DNA, Amaryllis knows it is only a matter of time before Dr. Peter Whitney discovers her whereabouts, and forces her into his breeding program. Malachai Fortunes knows Amaryllis is a Ghostwalker and his mate, and is immediately drawn to the feisty female but Amaryllis is reluctant to reveal her true powers, lest Malachai is a member of Whitney’s extraction team. The $ex scenes are limited but intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large familiar and colorful cast of secondary and supporting characters including several Ghostwalkers from the other three Teams. Ken and Jack Norton make a cameo appearance; most of Malachai’s team and their significant others (Diego Campo, Ezekiel Fortunes, Gino Mazza, Team leader Joe Spagnola and Mordichai Fortunes, Draden Freeman, Trap Dawkins, Rubin Campo and Wyatt Fontenot) join our couple to take down a government led home-grown terrorist attack, as well as the return of Dr. Trap Dawkins and his mate Cayenne. Christine Feehan continues to address Trap’s behaviour by way of Asperger’s syndrome, found on the high end of the autism spectrum, an address meant to assuage the character’s deplorable behaviour in Spider Game (book 12).

LETHAL GAME is a bit of a departure from Christine Feehan’s recent style of writing in that the detailed, graphic violence, or mention of abuse and torture, are limited especially as it pertains to women and children. Our hero is not a manipulative, controlling, oppressive alpha male like many of the author’s more recent leading male characters but he is desperate to protect the woman with whom he has fallen in love.

I would also like to address the similarities between the author’s Dark Carpathians and the Ghostwalkers as it pertains to the ‘healer’s in both of her series. From the ability to ‘see into the body, and heal by psychic energy, alongside one or more additional healers is very reminiscent of the Dark Series, and their ability to heal. The descriptions and graphic details regarding the psychic surgery are familiar and comparable, almost parallel to the earlier works in the Dark series.

LETHAL GAME is a story of family, friendships, relationships and love; a story of power and control; of fate and love. The premise is engaging, entertaining and intriguing; the characters are energetic, dynamic and courageous; the romance is emotional and captivating.

I’ve been a long time fan of author Christine Feehan, and this novel, the 16th in her marvelous Ghostwalker series, is no exception. She’s able to create such interesting characters and realistic locations in her books, this one was very difficult to put down. This is the tale of Malichai and Amaryllis, two souls who have a terrible past and such an amazing future. Malichai is a Ghostwalker, and he was brutally wounded on his latest mission. So it’s off to vacation for him, to rest and relax. When he arrives at the Bed and Breakfast he’s booked at, he is nearly blindsided by Amaryllis. She’s stunningly beautiful, and if he’s not mistaken, there’s a lot more to her than just her beauty. As they figure each other out, events around them quickly devolve into madness. And if they aren’t careful, that madness may overwhelm them both.

Malichai is sure of himself, "a slow smile curved his mouth and he lay back against the pillows. “I knew you’d fall for me, woman. It’s the way I wash dishes, isn’t it? The man is quite territorial, "...as much as I love that top, he doesn’t get to see you looking like that. Only me. And I’m going to tell you up front that he’s a good-looking man and if you look like you’re going to trade up, I’m killing him. I liked this book, I loved Malichai.

Malichai is a paramedic in the Airforce, part of the GhostWalker program. His DNA was mixed with so many different animals his talents make him a jack of all trades. When his leg was severely injured on a rescue mission he is forced to take a medical vacation and finds his paired mate hiding out in a bed and breakfast.

Amaryllis is one of Whitney's orphans who escaped and had been hiding out, working at a bed and breakfast, until Malichai came along. At first she thought he had come to take her back but quickly realized he wasn't like Whitney's other soldiers.

Their story took me back to why I fell in love with Feehan's stories. These two didn't try to overwhelm the other, even though their attraction could not be denied. Whitney may have paired them but these two sizzled and were a perfect complement for each other. I loved watching them get to know each other, working through the dynamics and terror of his injury, the intrigue and terrorist plots going on around them, as well as the people in the bed and breakfast and the GhostWalker team.

You can't blink without something happening to someone, keeping you on your toes and not wanting to put this book down. I loved seeing the rest of the team again as well as watching Trap and Cyan navigate her pregnancy. So much goodness here to enjoy.

Malichai was a multifaceted guy with a tough soldier attitude, but his innate sweetness and ease of adapting to domestic chores was quite cute! Amaryllis was very strong and intelligent, and I rather enjoyed her secretive nature. The way secrets were revealed went a ways in their relationship development, but weirdly, I skimmed a lot of the sex scenes out of boredom, being more in favor of the private conversations.

Lethal Game turned out to be a really good read! I was thrilled there wasn’t super dark threads like previous stories have had, and while there was still an evil plot and villains to defeat-hail, hail, the gangs all here!!-there was a lot of focus on the mental and emotional well being of the characters. It was a nice change of pace.
