Children aren’t the only ones who can disappear...

Driven by ongoing grief and relentless dreams, Holden Kelly is determined to track down the child his brother Gage abducted eight years earlier. The rescue that might have saved Matthew Gibson’s life had cost Gage his. Proving his brother hadn’t sacrificed his life for nothing might be the only way Holden can start fully living his again. And it could be the last chance he has to find his way back to the wife he loves but who is also mired in grief and a crisis of faith.

Mikayla Grant has nightmares of her own. A road trip with private investigator Jax Rodriguez—a man she is strongly drawn to even though his primary goal seems to be to drive her crazy—can’t be the way to heal from a terrible loss. Can it?

As Holden, Mikayla, and Jax follow the missing child’s trail from Toronto to Chicago, their mission is not as secret as they thought. Someone knows they are coming and will stop at nothing to prevent them from finding the child Gage rescued.

And to make sure that no one ever hears from the three of them again.

Good! Favorite of the series so far.

In Driven, the thread of rescuing in peril children continues. The primary characters are Jax and Mikayla, however, readers get caught up with Holden, Christina, Daniel and Nicole as well. The topic of miscarriage seemed to be handled realistically and with compassion. My heart hurt for the parents' loss and the difficulty they had in rediscovering hope and purpose.

My favorite character was Jax. I loved the dry humor he brought to the pages along with his self confidence.

Memorable quote: "Staying on a familiar road is safe and comforting, I know, and leaving it is a risk. Still, it is only in taking great risks that we can experience great joy."

Looking forward to book four.

Ah, well, as is common with me, I've read these books out of order. I really enjoy Sara's writing and I was like, "hey, she has a new book, I'm reading it," without paying attention to the fact that Driven was part of a series. hahaha Wow!

Thankfully I had book 1 on audiobook and listened to that this past week. Not enough time to read Guarded unfortunately, but I'll be buying the Kindle version of it. So, for this review I had to spring back to book 3. I'd already read about 3 chapters before I realized I was reading out of order. HA!

Anyhow, this book was amazing! There are so many emotional highs and lows; blood pressure raising moments; and faith permeating the entire story.

Let's talk about the characters... and there are quite a few. Holden and Chris have a super rough go at the beginning of the story. When Nicole and Daniel bring them over for dinner along with Nicole's sister Mikayla and a friend of Daniel's, Jax, the timing couldn't have been more perfect! Jax cracks me up with how he gets under Mikayla's skin. Mikayla on the other hand chooses to act like Jax doesn't exist. Nicole and Daniel have been through SO much and their faith is the glue that holds them together along with their sweet love.

Of course, there's also Natalya. She's their nemesis, yet, not. One of the things I like best about Natalya is that she's the one who causes us to think about "what would you do?" I also appreciate how she stays true to the task even as she sees everything she's worked for unraveling in front of her.

Once again, Sara's story brings to light the abuse of children and how hard it is to keep them safe, even through legal channels. What choices do we have to keep them safe? Is it better to follow the legal route that could have the child(ren) lose their life or kidnap them and put them in homes where they are loved? As we learn in this story, the loving home doesn't always turn out the way Natalya hoped.

I loved how Jax was able to "read" Mikayla so well. Actually frighteningly well. lol I'm not sure I'd want to date a PI or have one interested in me who was so attuned to me. It's exactly what Mikayla needs, although she doesn't see it. But what I appreciate in this storyline is that she realizes he's not a Christian and because of her faith, it's a non-negotiable.

There's a very swoon worthy moment at the end of the story... well, actually a couple. I don't want to give anything away, but when you read it you'll understand why women used to swoon. HA! I have to admit, when I finished the book, well, even before I'd finished it, I was wishing there'd have been a story about Jax and his missing brother. Imagine my utter delight to swipe after reading the end of the book that there's a book 4!!! Also, don't miss the author's notes at the end. I don't usually read them, but I really was drawn to Sara's. The discussion questions are also thought provoking!

*I received this book for review. This is my opinion.

Driven is the most emotion book in Sara Davison’s The Night Guardian Series—and that is from the first pages. Moments of hope and happiness sneak into the pain, heartache, and fear associated with loss.

While you could read this book on its own, it circles around to a lot of what transpired in the first book of the series and builds on what we learned in the second, so the reader experience is much deeper if you read the series in order.

The suspense in the book was woven well with the emotions of life and a blossoming romance, but my absolute favorite part of Driven was the faith thread—the truth that, even when we cannot feel his presence, God never leaves us.

This series has built upon itself well to this emotional story, and it’s not over yet. I’m looking forward to what Davison has in store for us next.

A suspenseful and beautiful story of hope

I have been loving the Night Guardians series and was excited to read Driven. If you haven't read the other books in the series, you will want to hurry and read them now before even reading the synopsis for this one! And if you have read them, you may want to re-read them to refresh your memory about the details of what happened. Or, just to reread them...

It was hard to decide whether to hurry through or to savor the experience of reading this poignant story! I did a little of both.

Sara Davison did such an incredible job of taking a thread and weaving it through the story to allow the lessons learned to be completely natural and fit so wonderfully. She took a very painful circumstance and brought hope and healing in a very sensitive and caring manner.

Holden and Chris' grief from the premature death of their son had devastated them and caused them to doubt what they thought they knew about God. Chris pretty much shut down and sought to protect her heart by pushing everyone away so she couldn't be hurt by any further loss. My heart was broken for them in their grief and for the lasting pain and rift it created in their relationship.

When a recurring dream led to Holden hurrying off to Chicago with Jax, the very suave private investigator, and the lovely, independent Mikalya, they had no idea the many ways this trip would change their lives. I loved the way that despite the grief Mikalya had experienced, she clung to what she knew about God and His goodness. As a result, she was able to help Holden and Jax to realize that God is always good - not only when good things happen.

There wasn't much mystery to the story because we saw the events from the perspectives of our heroes and the eyes of their enemy. This means it had the type of impending peril that drives me crazy, the "don't go down that alley because they will get you if you do" type! (Only it wasn't an alley, for what that's worth.) There was just the right amount of suspense mixed into the action to make it a little scary but not terrifyingly.

While I wouldn't consider it to be a romance, there were certainly elements of romance. In fact, Holden's love for his wife, despite the way she had cut him off, helped him to see that God, in His perfect love, wouldn't discard him for the doubts that he had. Likewise, as Jax and Mikalya finally saw beyond their first impressions of each other, they began to care for one another and hope for something more. Watching them open up and share the hurts and joys from their pasts was a real treat.

All moments between Holden and Chris were my favorites. I was also stunned and hurting for what happened at the border, realizing it is probably not as fictional as I would hope. And my heart melted at what Jax did for Mikalya after her gallery opening. Be prepared to melt, too.

Filled with danger, grief, hope, and faith, Driven is a wonderful story that will entertain and challenge its readers.

I was drawn into this book immediately. Holden and his wife Christina had a crisis on the first few pages and this event colors the rest of the story. Ms. Davison does a fabulous job of walking through the stages of grief.

When Holden, Jax, and Mikayla travel to Chicago to get a glimpse of a child they thought had been abducted years earlier, someone knows their plans and watches them.

There were so many emotions in this book that I came away almost feeling like I know the characters. I wanted them to find healing on their journey. I wanted them to wrestle with God and get to the place when their faith was stronger.

One of the major themes in Driven was the presence of God-specifically, where is God when bad things happen and is He still good because He allows those bad things to happen?

I love this explanation that was offered by Mikayla,

"God isn’t good because of what he does, or what he allows for reasons we can’t understand. He’s good because of who he is. He can’t be anything else or he would no longer be God."

DrivenÌý is the third book in the Night Guardians series but I was able to follow the storyline easily. Of course, now I want to go back and read all the other ones...

Sara Davison's Driven, the third book in her Night Guardians series, is intense and gripping throughout. Tight writing, fascinating characters, a complicated plot, all connect to form a 5-star read. Running through the story is the thread of faith that pulls it all together. I recommend that the series be read in order to catch all that's going on in the general arc, but this book is also readable on its own.

Oh my word. Two or three story-lines there that all weave together to make one AMAZING book. Miscarriage - healing needed. Stolen child - found and needs to be redeemed, and friends that help in spite of their problems. How God works is AMAZING.
Favourite line in the book: “Like gravity, he couldn’t see it, but he was deeply aware that God’s power was real and that its invisible force acted upon him every second of every day, keeping him from being flung off into a vast nothingness.

Learning To Trust

This third book of the series focuses on Holden and Christina's story and also Mikayla and Jax's story. It is a story of loss and learning to trust God and his leading and sovereignty. A very good book.

After reading Guarded exactly a year ago, I have been anticipating the next installment in The Night Guardians series for awhile, hoping that a few of my qualms from Guarded would be put to rest. I had craved more plot twists, less predictability and hoped to fall in love with the leads in the next volume, and I am happy to report that this series continues to get better and better!

Though this can be read as a standalone, I think knowing the characters from the second book really helped me key in and click with this novel, as it immediately drew me in from the first chapter. There are multiple story lines all going at once, but are interwoven in such a way that they never confuse you, but instead take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. The suspense is almost immediate, and doesn't let up until the very end.

Holden and Christine's story line had my heart breaking throughout the book. The raw and real emotion made my chest tighten, and brought waves of memories for me. Though I didn't experience exactly what they had to endure at the beginning of the book (no, I won't spoil it), I have went through two times in my life where I wasn't able to welcome another child in my family.

The pain is excruciating, and the author does not hold back on highlighting the stages of grief as Holden and Christine travel down a path they never thought they'd be on. I loved the message of God's love even when He feels absent, and witnessing Christians questioning their faith, and struggling with life, as this is relatable on so many levels. It is also a great reminder that everyone grieves differently, and that's ok.

Hands down, my favorite couple in the book is Mikayla and Jax, their banter reminding me so much of how my husband and I used to be when we first started dating. Witty and charming, they both give the novel a much needed touch of romance, and give those moments of comic relief amid the darker situations that are lurking all around them.

Driven has a great flow, a poignant message, and would be a great book club read, especially if you utilize the discussion questions at the end of the novel, and discuss all the many levels that are within these pages.

Driven is a novel that truly has it all: suspense, intrigue, emotional grief and trauma, and best of all faith and love. I am excited to say that I did get a little twist that I wasn't bargaining for, which thrilled me to no end, as this is something that I felt was missing in the previous novel, and I am now eagerly awaiting the fourth and final installment of the series, Forged, which is set to come out in September 2022.

Driven
Night Guardians #3
By Sara Davison

Holden Kelly's life just got a whole lot worse - he lost his unborn son and is losing his wife. And now his dreams are haunted by a young boy who seems to need his help.

When a name gets put with the child in his dreams Holden feels that he has to track down this young boy. But he is not alone on this mission - his sister-in-law's sister Mikayla Grant knew the boy and feels lead to help. And then there is Jax Rodriguez- a PI who has a talent for annoying Mikayla.

As their search for the last child that Gage Kelly helped "rescue" takes them from Toronto to Chicago they find themselves at the center of a dangerous game - one that they have no idea that they are a part of.

This book like the previous books in the series follows the aftermath of when caring people try to help those who are most vulnerable. When a child falls through the cracks and is caught in an abusive situation how far will you go to protect them? And what will you do to prevent them from ever being found? With their lives in danger, they need to stay one step ahead of whoever is after them. But how can you protect yourself when you don't know that danger is closing in? And time is against them.

I would recommend that readers read the first two books in the series as the previous actions of the characters have a direct bearing on this book. That isn't to say that one cannot enjoy this book without reading Vigilant or Guarded, but the backstory will allow one to more easily follow along. Overall this a well-written, well-paced book that fans of romantic suspense - especially the Love Inspired Suspense type reads will enjoy.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I offer my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Holden keeps having a reoccurring nightmare about Matthew Gibson, the boy his brother died over years ago. Holden feels the need to check on this missing child because he had an overwhelming feeling that Matthew needs to be rescued. Maybe its the grief over losing a child of his own or maybe its a higher power.Ìý

Mikayla doesn't know how to let people in anymore after the death of her adopted parents and her new knowledge that she was stolen from her biological parents when she was little. A call from her agent about an upcoming Art Exhibit in Chicago gives her the push she needs to help Holden on his mission. Together with Jax, a visiting private investigator friend of Daniel's, Mikayla and Holden go to Chicago to try to find answers and find peace.

My favorite part about the books I've read by this author is her way of making seemingly black and white situations way more complicated and real. People have history that directs their life and justify their actions. I love the scars Sara Davison shows and the message of God's love even when it feels absent.

I've always said I haven't experienced loss because no one close to me has ever died. I like to read books that showcase that feeling so I can have empathy for those that are hurting. Besides Driven,ÌýThe Salt House by Lisa Duff is a good one to check out.ÌýDeath isn't the only way to feel loss though. A spouse pulling away, a missing sibling, separation of any kind all produce feelings of loss. I do know what that feels like. Even though the characters have different types of loss in this book, that one theme connects them and together they are able to encourage each other and heal. Healing isn't instant with loss and everyone grieves differently. I LOVED this part of Driven. It was so sad, and full of emotions, and I connected with the characters. I just wanted them to have a happy ending because I wanted to feel hope for my own future.Ìý

Driven is book three in Sara Davison’s The Night Guardians series. In Driven Sara Davison tackles a couple of difficult topics which carry a lot of emotion - late term miscarriages and child trafficking for the purpose of illegal adoption. I found the plot to be very intriguing and informative. As a mom, my heart broke for the characters in the book - those who lost a child due to miscarriage or kidnapping, the children who were taken from their homes of origin, as well as the parents who resorted to illegal adoption in order to fill their empty arms. The story is very intense and fast paced. God’s love is underlying it all.
I have not previously read the other books in The Night Guardians series. There were times when I felt I was missing information that would have helped me better understand the characters. I was able to follow the story and the information I felt like I was missing was not integral to the plot. I would recommend reading the books in order if you have that option.
I think that Driven, while an adult novel, would probably be okay for a k-12 Christian school library although I think I would mark it for high school only. The book does end with a discussion guide which helps make Driven a good choice for a book club.
I received a complimentary copy of Driven. This is my honest review.

Ms. Davison plunges the reader headlong into a heart wrenching tragedy. Taut storytelling, riveting plotline, the author gives the reader a page-turning, thrilling ride.
If the story wasn’t already compelling enough, Ms. Davison reaches into the human heart, drawing us through the journey of grief. The trauma to the heart, the devastation to relationships. The thin grip on self-preservation, and the journey back to faith and wholeness.
Ms. Davison broaches the subject of child abduction, and neatly twists the threads of his rescue against the seeming logic and defense of his captors, pulling the reader into the action. The juxtaposition of “rescuing children from abusive situations against the web of red tape involved within the system.
The uneasy rapport between Holden, Mikayla, and Jax gives a dimension of reality. Holden’s grief, Mikayla’s history, and Jax’s mysterious [SPOILER], as their rapport builds into trust.
So many elements in this story that touch this reader’s heart.

It's always fun to read a book by Sara Davison and I loved getting back to the Night Guardian series. It was fun to see old characters and get to know more about these newer ones. I enjoyed the suspense aspects of the story as usual with tidbits of clues here and there that make for a well rounded and fun story.
The elements of faith were all too real and beautiful. I love how the author dealt with the grief and romance of Holden and Chris. It's real, it's raw, it's beautiful. Mikayla and Jax too.
Another fun book from this author and definitely a great one for lovers of romantic suspense.

This book starts off at a fast pace, and doesn't let up until the last page! I would recommend reading the series in order, so you know the back story to some of the characters.

Having lost children through miscarriage, I could relate to the anguish that Christina and Holden suffer at the beginning of the story, through losing a child of their own. To add to the heartache, Holden has a reoccurring nightmare involving a child and not being able to save them in time.

As the stories intertwined, they reveal a beautiful story of love, grief, and grace. The author does a wonderful job of handling the touch subjects and offering hope through this story.

I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review and is in no way influenced by receiving a complimentary copy.

Driven by Sara Davison is the third book in the Night Guardians series, a series you won’t want to miss.
This emotionally charged book drew me in from the first chapter on. After Holden Kelly and his wife lose their unborn baby son, Holden dreams about the last boy his brother Gage rescued. The boy that cost Gage his life. (You can read about Gage in Vigilant. (It isn’t necessary at all to read the other two books in this series to enjoy this book. However, reading them will fill in a lot of backstory.)

Six months pass and Holden and Christina have grown apart as each grieves separately for their son. Christina turns inward. Holden takes it as a good sign when she agrees to attend a dinner party, hosted by her best friend and Holden’s former sister-in-law, Nicole, and her husband Detective Daniel Grey. Nicole’s sister Mikayla Grant is there along with private investigator, Jax Rodriguez.

Mikayla takes an instant distrust of the handsome PI.
After dinner, Holden slips away to Daniel’s office to get rid of a headache and finds a photo of the boy he dreams about. Daniel is still trying to find the boy who was stolen from his abusive father by an elusive organization that rescued children from those types of situations.
When Mikayla sees the photo, she recognizes the boy as a kid from her neighborhood. And the search is on. Mikayla, Jax, and Holden leave for Chicago the next day and search for the boy. When Jax says he was a boy scout, Mikayla challenges him to camp out instead of stay at a nice hotel which brings much laughter.
I loved the way Davison worked in the growing attraction of Mikayla to Jax. She respects the way he handles their situation, and his heartache that she can relate to. What none of them knows is the organization is on to them and will stop at nothing, even murder to keep them from finding the boy.
Of course, they do find him, and that brings danger. Just when Holden believes he might have a future with his wife, he might not live to see it. Same with Jax and Mikayla…and Daniel. This organization will stop at nothing.
One thing I like about this series that deals with this organization is the way it handles the subject. In every case, the stolen child is in a better environment with parents who love them, and many of the children were in danger of being killed by the abusive parent.

The story grabbed me from the start. I felt a connection with Holden when his wife went into labor early and things were moving too fast for him to get her to the hospital. The details are different, but I know how it feels to see your wife suffering indefinitely and feel completely incapable of knowing how to help or what to do to make the situation better after the loss of a baby. Life must go on for the parents who have jobs and other responsibilities. As much as he struggled to be there for his wife, Holden was being driven by a dream of a young boy who was being led away by a dark man. No matter how hard Holden ran, he could never catch up and would awaken after sensing the young boy telling him not to give up. Where did the dream come from? Why did it occur with regularity? Was it a message about someone he needed to help? If the situation with his wife was not enough to drive a man to distraction, then this dream would certainly do it. I encourage you to read the first two books in the series so all the characters and references to past events will be clearer. The message of faith and trust in God came through clearly, and was encouraging and uplifting in a story that has some dark places. Holden and Christina worked for Children’s Services where they saw many heartbreaking situations involving children. In addition, their friend Daniel was still searching for a child who had been kidnapped eight years earlier. Thus, the reference to dark places. The story also had some funny moments, particularly when Jax and Mikayla began bantering about almost anything. If you like a good mix of faith, suspense, humor, romance, and action, I believe you will enjoy this book. For that matter, the entire series is worth reading. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

The third installment of the Night Guardians series brings back familiar characters with secrets, grief and the unexpected swirling around them. Holden Kelly continues his quest to right the wrongs committed by his late brother, Gage, who made some choices that forever changed both their lives. His relationship with his wife is still delicate, due to the continued stressors of of the results Gage's decision.

Mikayla Grant finds herself working alongside PI Jax and Holden to find answers related to a child's disappearance, which was connected to Holden's brother. Can this rag tag group get to the bottom of the location of the missing child? Or are they too late to find the answers they desperately seek?

This series moves at a breakneck speed, connecting an underground child abduction network, emotional relationships and a broken child welfare system. Some heroes can be protagonists AND antagonists, and Davison makes the reader stop and put themselves in the characters' shoes to think "What would I do in this situation?" Always a worthy read, filled with intrigue, relational drama and a strong sense of seeking justice for those in need, Davison's work gets better with time.

Davison also weaves a realistic thread of spiritual struggles for her characters to overcome--but does it in a way that's natural and non-preachy. I can't wait for the final book, although it also makes me sad that things will conclude in the 4th upcoming novel.

I was an early reader, thanks to the author and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Driven was a suspenseful, exciting read with a cast of characters readers are sure to enjoy. Davison holds your attention by adding little tidbits here and there throughout the story, to help you solve the case, and understand what is truly going on. And I love that. I don't want it all upfront, I want it woven in throughout.

Two things I love most about this book - the faith theme. Davison isn't shy about including God in her books, and how good He is to the characters, and really to us all. I know when I see a book with her name on it, I'm going to get a faith theme that I need to hear. Driven is no exception.

The other thing I really love about this book, is a spoiler. Sorry! But let me say this....things are not always what they seem, and I love that aspect of this book. I think readers will be pleasantly surprised with this part of the story. I certainly was.

Yes there is some romance, and I did enjoy seeing characters from the past, but the journey of this story was the true hero here. I think suspense fans will enjoy book three of Davison's The night Guardians series. I know I did.

Driven, book 3 of The Night Guardians series, is a Christian romantic suspense novel by author Sara Davison.

Wow, Driven starts with suspense and keeps on-going. The reader will want to begin with book one of The Night Guardians series and keep reading.

Daniel Grey is still searching for Matthew Gibson who would now be 12-years-old. It has been 8 years since Matthew disappeared.

Wonderful ending and I look forward to the next book by author Sara Davison. There are discussion questions at the end which make this book great for a group read. I recommend Driven to fans of Christian romantic suspense.

Fabulous!! Driven is the 3rd book in a series that has kept me captivated in each of the books. However, this one was the best of the three! The characters are so well-developed and interesting. The storyline kept me intrigued and involved from the beginning. Even the author's note at the end was wonderful and from her heart. One line from her note particularly hit me: "Even if we do not know where it is that we are going, we can trust the One who is taking us there."

Driven is the third book in the Night Guardians series and even better than the first two! Sara gives real depth and emotion to her characters so the reader quickly relates to them and becomes invested in their lives.

The storyline was gripping and intriguing and I liked the use of multi person POV throughout the book. I really enjoyed what I considered a "twist" in the plot, meeting Natalya again but in a much different way than expected.

If you enjoy well written Christian fiction that is a blend of romance and suspense with characters who deal with difficulties in their lives yet live out their faith in God then I definitely recommend reading Driven.

I loved Driven. Even if you haven't read any other books by Sara in this series, that won't be a problem because she fills in the gaps effortlessly. I love how Sara writes. She is funny and seems to use some spanish words with english ones as well so you are not lost.

In this book "Driven" you feel like you are right beside Sara as she tells you the story. It is very interesting and keeps you wanting to read more. I would recommend this book. It is suspenseful and has romance too. A great gift.

Driven is Sara Davison’s third book in The Night Guardians series. This is the first one of her books I have read. I liked that I was able to find out what the first two books were about while reading the story line of this book. Driven is about loss, romance and the power of God. The suspense of the story kept me reading. I’m looking forward to read the first two books in the series and also the next one when it comes out. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased review.

I didn't expect there to be another book added to this previously 2 book series, but I was thrilled when I found out that this one was coming. It was a really good blend of the first two. A touch of romance, a bunch of suspense, both new and old characters, plus new and old obstacles. It dealt with some heavy spiritual issues too.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

WOW! What a read! This book is well written and has just enough suspense and romance to keep you turning the pages. Even though this is book 3 of the series it can be read as a stand alone. If you like a book that deals with real life problems and shows how God is in control, you will love this book. I received a complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are my own.

I just read Driven in two days. What an awesome book. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters right from the first book in the series, and this one tied all of them together in an emotional journey as they each had to find God’s presence in their sorrow.

As always, Sara's books are a pleasure to read.

Driven, like all Davison's writing, is fluid and gripping. Story lines ingeniously intertwine to thicken the plot and reveal complicated characters on their Christian journey. Challenging life situations give the novel depth and breadth. Excellent read.

I’ve not read the other books in this series but now I want to read them. The losses of the characters were heart wrenching. Especially since I know the pain of miscarriage. A good story but a hard read as I felt the pain of the characters.

The Best Book in the Series!

This is the third book in the series and my favorite!
It brought in some new characters that we got to see a glimpse of before, while tying up all of the loose ends.
It also continues the theme that God is in control and He never leaves you.
