Driven (The Night Guardians, #3)

Holden keeps having a reoccurring nightmare about Matthew Gibson, the boy his brother died over years ago. Holden feels the need to check on this missing child because he had an overwhelming feeling that Matthew needs to be rescued. Maybe its the grief over losing a child of his own or maybe its a higher power.Â
Mikayla doesn't know how to let people in anymore after the death of her adopted parents and her new knowledge that she was stolen from her biological parents when she was little. A call from her agent about an upcoming Art Exhibit in Chicago gives her the push she needs to help Holden on his mission. Together with Jax, a visiting private investigator friend of Daniel's, Mikayla and Holden go to Chicago to try to find answers and find peace.
My favorite part about the books I've read by this author is her way of making seemingly black and white situations way more complicated and real. People have history that directs their life and justify their actions. I love the scars Sara Davison shows and the message of God's love even when it feels absent.
I've always said I haven't experienced loss because no one close to me has ever died. I like to read books that showcase that feeling so I can have empathy for those that are hurting. Besides Driven, The Salt House by Lisa Duff is a good one to check out. Death isn't the only way to feel loss though. A spouse pulling away, a missing sibling, separation of any kind all produce feelings of loss. I do know what that feels like. Even though the characters have different types of loss in this book, that one theme connects them and together they are able to encourage each other and heal. Healing isn't instant with loss and everyone grieves differently. I LOVED this part of Driven. It was so sad, and full of emotions, and I connected with the characters. I just wanted them to have a happy ending because I wanted to feel hope for my own future.Â
