5 stars Romantic Suspense

I really enjoyed Stephanie Tyler's Hard to Hold trilogy and love the ACRO series that she co-writes with fellow author Larissa Ione as Sydney Croft, so I was excited about Tyler's new military romantic suspense series. And Lie with Me, the first installment in the Shadow Force series, lived up to my high expectations and then some. It's explosive with fascinating, complex characters, an intriguing, intricate plot, thrilling action and danger, intelligent suspense and espionage, and emotional, passionate love scenes. The romance between main H/h Cam and Sky and secondary couple Dylan and Riley was satisfying and smokin' hot! I loved it and simply couldn't put it down! I can't wait for Zane's and Olivia's story, , to come out next month. Big 5 stars!

It's not too often where you read a book and it feels like the author peered into your mind and wrote a book specifically for your likes and dislikes. Even though ST is a NTM author that is exactly what she did. This book had very tight plotting and considering that we had two romances going on at once, I thought that was pretty good. Even better both romances felt like they got equal time with the story, so by the end of the story I was happy for both couples and didn't feel like either one got ripped off within the story line.

Cameron Moore was framed for a murder he didn't commit over 10 years ago and he is tired to his soul of paying for the fact that he was rescued from jail. So much that, he is going kidnap the man's daughter and force him to let Cameron go or he is going to kill her....he means it. Then he gets a look at her big green eyes and ole Cam falls like a ton of man bricks and falls in love instead.

The only problem with that is, her dad has been kidnapped by a ruthless criminal organization and they need Skylar in order to make her dad spill his secrets. Cam ends up rescuing Sky instead and he does other things to her as well that are sure going to make her dad mad when he finds out.

Our other romance is between Dylan and Riley, two covert ops always on different missions, but always managing to find one another. That is until the night Riley shoots Dylan in the side and advises him she sure she won't see him again...Not. Dylan knows that Riley has intel on the situation that he is helping Cam with. So this time she isn't going to shake him or his heart, no matter how many bullets she puts into him.

The was right up my alley with equal parts of romance, suspense, action and all around hunky military guys. The only niggling thing is the guy on the cover is too soft looking for how I pictured Cam to be, but that is just a cover. I am totally looking forward to Zane's book and going to got scoop up her backlist.

Just okay contemporary military romance. Nothing to really stand it out from the pack as far as I’m concerned, except for perhaps the fact the author does more than one romantic couple per book. In this one, two men from a former special ops team go after the man who recruited them. But it seems the man himself is in danger and they end up rescuing him rather than taking him out. Course the fact that one of them falls for the man’s daughter helped that.

Despite my lack of enthusiasm, I’ll probably read the next one in the series at some point because, dangit, she hooked me for Zane’s story. :P

Fantastic story of Cam and Sky. I have never read Stephanie Tyler's book before but i truly enjoyed this one. Cant wait to read the next one. Need to know about Olivia. Fast paced , action packed. Lots of great lovin. Cam at first was a complete asshole! Sorry but seriously calling like I read it. Lol Sky was awesome. She was in recovery from a kidney transplant and was trying so hard to be strong when everything went to hell. I admit she was more forgiving than I would have been. At least so quickly. There were lots of twists and turn and it had me scratching my head trying to figure it out before the end. Great read!

I didn't love this. I liked the story and the characters, but it took a while to get going for me. Maybe because I had to start and stop so many times, due to that thing called real life (lol)! I didn't get a chance to feel really pulled into this and feel like I couldn't put it down. Zanes book is next and seems promising. Starting that today.

4,5 stars!!

Cameron 'Cam' Moore is Delta Force. Hard, proud and honorable. Thanks to things in his past he’s indebted to Gabriel Creighton and forced to do black ops for him as it's either the black ops or 2 consecutive life sentences in jail. Easy choice. There’s no love lost between them and Cam wants out. He’s had enough and is going to use Gabriel's only daughter as leverage to get out of from under the man’s thumb.

This only daughter is author Skylar 'Sky' Slavin, who writes thrillers. She recently (5 months earlier) had a kidney transplant, donated by her father, after which he’s disappeared of the grid. With both parents in the CIA she’s been taught to distrust military types and knows her way around explosives, firearms, self-defense and locked places. As all Stephanie Tyler's heroines, Sky is tough and resilient, having survived stuff she’s determined to hold on to her strength, yet she has a vulnerability that makes it impossible for me not to like or admire her.

I love enemy's daughter tropes, and LIE WITH ME has that trope written all over it! But it's so much more too: it's intricate with complex and characters that are fleshed out well with back-stories that delve deep under the surface. The romance did feel a bit rushed in the beginning, relying very much on instant attraction and sexual chemistry. Though it was really hot I expected a little more build-up there. That being said, the love scenes are awesome and beautifully written, rough, raw, intense and fitting the characters and the story. And I liked that the characters themselves (Cam and Sky) were questioning the speed with which their feelings were developing.

Next to Cam and Sky there are two important secondary characters that are also the couple having the secondary romance in this book. Cam’s best friend Dylan Scott is a former fellow Delta Force now turned sort of a rogue spy-for-hire. He’s paired up with Riley Sacadano, former Navy now on her own, a private contractor and in search of what happened to her dad, a CIA agent who was murdered in the line of duty. Both Dylan and Riley play crucial roles both the main plot and a few subplots.

When an author writes a villain that I feel tempted to sympathize with for his crappy childhood while at the same time despising him for what he puts other the people in the book through, you deserve my praise! Also when you give me a semi-villain with so much back-story delivered gradually enough to slowly come to the conclusion that even though he's not a good or honorable man, he would go through fire for his loved ones.
And this is the kind of characters Stephanie Tyler gave me in LIE WITH ME next to the awesome main and secondary couple. How can I not love her books?

There were quite a few plots going on in the book and the common factor in the different plotlines seems to be Gabriel Creighton, actually he was an element in all the plotlines except for the romances. It was fascinating to slowly figure out how everything locked together and find out what was going on and working towards the inevitable and climactic conclusion where all loose ends get tied up and the separate threads come together.

I am not telling anything more about the plots than I already did as with romantic suspense, you need to find out and put things together for yourself when you read it. Suffice to say that I love the multiple plots that come together approach that is familiar in romantic suspense and which Stephanie Tyler takes on splendidly. I had several aha-moments where seemingly unconnected things clicked together, linking the plots and offering deeper knowledge and understanding for events earlier or later in the book. Awesome how Stephanie Tyler does this with all her military romances. And I’m a big fan of the "come full circle" feel her suspense plots have.

Romantic suspense books are filled with characters; primary, secondary and walk-ons, however Stephanie Tyler keeps it very manageable, only introducing characters that are necessary for the plots that are unfolding. And those characters all contribute with their own POVs, some –understandably-- more than others.

I must also include a warning that I don't think LIE WITH ME is for people who didn't like Stephanie Tyler’s first trilogy. I know there are people who didn't like the many POVs Steph uses, I however love that. To me they give insight and depth to the suspense and the characters. LIE WITH ME is written in that same style with multiple storylines and POVs and the occasional flashbacks. I loved the tiny reference to HOLD ON TIGHT, no matter how small if you've read HOLD ON TIGHT you'll pick up on it.

I adore Stephanie Tyler's writing and her brand of romantic suspense. Her men are capable, unapologetic and ruthless, yet tender and passionate with their woman. The women are vulnerable yet strong and independent. The suspense in LIE WITH ME is thrilling, intricate and awesomely put together including some kick-ass fight sequences. I was jumping from one speculation to the other. The romance is poignant and intense, the love scenes fog up will your glasses and an added treat was the secondary romance and the way she set up the next book's couple without giving away too much.

If you like a romantic suspense with several subplots coming together from different angles combined with a touching and complicated romance, you'll love LIE WITH ME as much as I did.

Good book. I liked both Skylar and Cam. Both of them are strong people, but also have issues that make them feel more realistic. Cam is ready to be done with dancing to Gabriel's tune with the black ops work and has finally found a way to do it. He's going to kidnap the man's daughter and use her to force Gabriel to set him free. But when he shows up to take her, he discovers that he's not the only one with that idea and ends up protecting her rather than using her. Skylar is an author of spy novels but never expected to end up in a situation even more dangerous than in one of her books. She's not sure if she can trust Cam, but she can't deny the attraction she feels for him.

After her agent mother's death, Skylar was hidden away by her CIA father, coached and trained to keep her true identity hidden. She has taken a working vacation, trying to get her writing back on track after kidney transplant surgery. She hasn't been able to reach her father for several weeks, so when Cam shows up and tells her that her father sent him, she wants to believe him. Others show up claiming the same thing, leading her to wonder who's telling the truth, but she ends up trusting Cam. As they try to evade capture by those who want to use Skylar against her father, she grows closer to Cam. I liked the way that she accepted him for who he was, even knowing some of the things he's had to do in his work. She also shares things with him that she's never told anyone else. I really liked the emotional connection that they had early on. It was also nice to see that it didn't make things all rainbows and flowers for the rest of the book. Sky had to deal with some of the things she learned about him, including what really brought him to her to start with. She also had to deal with the things she learned about her father. I also liked the way that, even though she's not physically at full strength because of her transplant surgery, she still is able to hold her own during the book. Though she occasionally has her doubts about Cam, she is a full participant in her own rescue and the search for her father.

Cam has not had it easy in his life. His father was an undercover ATF agent who got a little too deep into his last op. He ended up getting killed and Cam got framed for the murder of two FBI agents. After spending two years in prison, he was given the chance to clear his record by becoming an operative for Gabriel's black ops group. So when Cam isn't doing his Delta Force gig, he's doing things that he isn't always proud of. After ten years, he's had enough but needs something to use against Gabriel to force him to release Cam. Thanks to his friend Dylan, Cam discovers Gabriel has a daughter and is determined to kidnap her and use her for leverage against him. His first sight of Sky knocks him for a loop, and finding out that someone else is after her too changes his plans for her. Suddenly he's more interested in protecting her than using her. He also finds that they have much more in common than he thought they would. I really loved seeing Cam's heart get involved. Sky's acceptance of him in spite of what he sees as blood on his hands makes a huge difference to his outlook on life. For such a tough guy it's fun to see that there is a tender side also, which comes out as he takes care of Sky. He is faced with a terrible dilemma as he must decide whether to pursue his plan to use her against her father, or give up on those plans and try to save the father of the woman he he loves.

There's also a secondary romance with Cam's best friend Dylan and another operative named Riley. As the book goes on we see how their story is interwoven with the events that lead up to Gabriel's capture, and their involvement in Cam's mission.

The suspense part of the story is very well done. There is the homegrown terrorist organization with the appropriately evil boss. There is just enough from his point of view for us to see just how bad he is without him taking over the story. While part of the mystery is solved by the end of the book, part continues on to the next one.

After reading Lora Leigh's Midnight Sin I needed to get the awful taste out of my mouth. I needed to read some fabulous Black Ops book and make it all better. I dove into Stephanie Tyler's Shadow Force series. I am only familiar with her work through the ACRO series she co-writes with Larissa Ione under the name Sydney Croft. I love that series so I figured that this one would be easy to fall in love with as well. I finished book one, Lie with Me and I am ready to open up book two. I guessed right.

I loved the writing of the heroine in this book. Skylar had two agents as parents so she wasn’t exactly a shrinking violet, but she wasn’t superwoman either. She was recovering from an illness and the consequences of that were throughout the story, but not over the top. It was consistent. After long exertion there was the need for a rest period. She wasn’t played as a complete invalid either. Having grown up somewhat in the middle of the black ops agent lifestyle she didn’t fall apart every time something earth shattering popped up, but she did have some meltdown moments. There was a really nice balance to everything.

The hero Cam was wonderfully Alpha but had his balance as well. There were plenty of moments where he broke away from the “You Jane, me Tarzan routine that the men in this genre of books so often fall into. Things weren’t easy for him in the romance department with Sky as well. They had plenty to work through and some choices to make along the way. Refreshing!

A pleasant treat was to have a secondary couple that you fell in love with just as much. You got to read enough background and flashbacks along the way to feel as if you have read an entire book about them, when in reality they were just slipped in. Its not often that you end up rooting for more than one couple in a book. Usually the focus stays on one couple with a set up for the next book. This time around you get resolution for both. (We did get that set up anyway, and it was awesome.)

I am really anxious to follow this series to see what happens to all of the loose ends. There are so many bad guys that need to be taken down, and some bad ones that you want to see try to get some sort of redemption. Stephanie Tyler did one heck of a job getting me so invested.

In Lie With Me, we meet Cameron Moore. Delta Force Operative, who's job is the CIA's black ops dirty work—payment for keeping him out of jail. Driven by a need to escape the man who gave him a second chance at a free life, Cam, along with his best, and only trusted friend Dylan, come up with a plan to aid them by capturing bestselling author Skylar Slavin, daughter of CIA agent Gabriel Creighton. The plan, was to kidnap Sky and hold her as leverage for Cam so he'd be able to negotiate with Gabriel about his freedoom. What he never expected was to desire his daughter more than anything. But just as he is prepared to leave with Sky, they discover she is being threatened by unknown forces. Cam is thrust into protecting the woman who holds the key to his freedom—and his heart.

As far as the characters, I found they were enjoyable, and extremely stubborn. But there was depth to each of them, including the subs. I especially enjoyed reading about Cameron. His troubled past and present life made for an interesting first novel. Skylar's character was well developed, she is a survivor, and determined not to be taken care of by any means. The problem I had with this book, was that for me, the plot just dragged on. Granted, I liked the idea that the characters had to develop a relationship before deciding, "I love you" was their out. But having the sub characters interrupt that story line got annoying. From Cameron's POV to Skylars, from there it went to Dylan, who in turn went to Riley then Cameron and then Dylan again!! I love that Stephanie Tyler gave us an idea as to why each character ended up where they did, I just wish it wouldn't have gone from one thing to the next so quickly. You get caught up in trying to find out what happens between two people, and then it changes abruptly to see what the other two are doing, and then the single sub-characters as well.

I recommend it. If you like action-packed romance novels, with hot sexy Black Ops, this series is definitely for you! ;)

I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the story very much...I always enjoy this type of storyline. The author's writing style, however, leaves much to be desired. I HATE that she basically said how many flashbacks can I possibly put in one book and then proceeded to reach her goal. I don't mind a good flashback for story purposes, but not at least one in every chapter and not when you're flashing back to things that the reader could've just been told about. Half the book was in italics, or so it seemed to me.

I liked the characters of Skylar and Cam, and I especially enjoyed the fact that Skylar isn't stupid enough to resist him at every turn. She knows she's recovering from an illness and in a world of trouble, and maybe, just maybe the big strong man protecting her could be of more use than she can. When Cam told her about his deception, he didn't just automatically expect her to forgive him as so many of these men do....yes he was justified, but he fully recognized her right to anger and calmly told his side of the story.

Mostly, I liked Zane and I really can't wait for his story in the next book.

This was a pretty good book. I've read one other ST book and didn't like it at all (Hard to Hold). Of course you have to suspend your belief in all things real, but I honestly didn't mind since I did enjoy the ride Ms. Tyler took me on.

The hero was quite likable. Strong, alpha and fell in love super-quick (kind of like a LMR hero). Loved that while the heroine was physically weak, she was not a weak woman. The secondary romance with Cam's friend Dylan was enjoyable as well.

I'll definitely keep an eye out for the next book in this series.

3.5 stars. A high velocity read but for some reason I just couldn't get into the characters. In the beginning of the story I had that feeling you get when you walk in late to a movie. The story has already begun and now you have to catch up. The upshot is that there are lots of little hints of things to come and I'm eager to discover more about Zane and Olivia. Furthermore, I have a feeling this is not the last of Dylan, Riley, and maybe even Caleb?

3 Solid Stars or B Rating.

Both the Heroine and Hero were likable enough, and are kindred spirits in loneliness. The heroine recently had a kidney transplant, and has had on going issues since her teens, and the hero was framed for murder and imprisoned when he was just a lad. I liked them together, they complimented each other nicely.

They have sex on their first meeting and fall in love in three days.
I really hate that plot device, and really, I just don't understand it. But hey, it's a book.

I liked that the heroine was strong in mind, and getting stronger in body after her surgery. She wasn't weak willed, but did know her limits and strengths.

There were a few different storylines in this book, and I should have expected it, having read Tyler's ACRO Series, co-written with Larissa Ione, who also uses multiple story lines.

The secondary storyline involved Dylan, Cam (the hero's) best friend, and Riley, a mercenary former navy spy. Their story was interesting, and I liked their romance a lot.

There were two main "villains" One bad, and one Badder. Gabriel is bad, a CIA operative who only believes in the "greater good" and is also Sky (the heroines) Father. He holds Cam's leash in the Black Op's world. He has hurt many, many people.

I will read the next, because I want to find out what happens with Zane and Olivia.

I don't particularly like military/war novels and I completely shy away from terrorist themed books. So I'm always wary when starting a new black ops series since you never know where or how far into detail it's going to go. I got lucky with this one. Just enough details to keep you interested but not enough to turn my stomach.

Cameron Moore is indebted to Gabriel Creighton (black ops leader) since he got him out of a life sentence in jail (for something he didn't do). However, Cam is sick and tired of doing Gabriel's dirty work and wants out. He thinks he's found the perfect way (holding Gabriel's daughter hostage) until he actually meets said daughter and realizes he's too damn honorable to do what needs to be done. Besides he likes Skylar immediately and quickly falls under her spell.

Though Cam and Skylar aren't the only couple in this story. Dylan Scott, Cam's buddy and fellow ex-Delta Force agent is helping Cam out by investigating Gabriel. Turns out Gabriel has been kidnapped and Dylan's woman is the cause. Hmmm do they rescue Gabriel or not. That is the question. Well Cam can't very well let Skylar's father be tortured to death so they set up a crazy rescue scheme.

I will definitely be continuing the series especially since the next one is about Zane and Olivia.

I really have problems with the author's style. In each chapter you follow the story from several characters' point of view, and at the beginning there's also flashbacks about them, it confusing at time.
But the plot was interesting and well done, and I liked the 2 couples. Both heroines are strong each on her own way, and the heroes are both good.

well, I almost refrained from writing about this book, because as always, I suffered being the first of a new series and I need some time to acquaint mylself with everyone and everything.

The story was a bit lacking in suspence, IMO, but it was a good story and I love ST writing.

So I'm onto the second one

Ugh... ok this was not my cup of tea at all.. I read this on my kindle and first off it jumped from character to character often and it was so hard to know who’s perspective the story was currently in, there was no break or lead in or anything and i hated it. One minute it was the story of one set of characters and next minute I’d be reading and confused and realised it had jumped to the other set of characters!

For me it felt rushed, the whole story line to me was unclear, it felt hurried and I didn’t understand exactly who was who and who had done what and the romance for me was definitely rushed and cliche. I hate to speak badly of a book, but for me this wasn’t a good read.

In saying that, have I ever written a book? No so good on Stephanie for writing a book, which has gotten good reviews. The writing style itself was easy to read and I mean it did have its good points but I won’t be finishing the series.

I have bought and read this book twice, but did not write a review the first time and I actually forgot that I had already read it; just had a feeling that the cover looked familiar. I started reading it and got the feeling that it was familiar, and then realized what I had done. That being said, I enjoyed this book. I love Cam; he is strong and focused, able to do horrible things for the greater good without becoming a monster. Skyler was amazing; smart and strong; she went through so much but did not want to be helpless. They were a great team. I am looking forward to more Dylan and Riley, as well as seeing what comes from Zane and Olivia.

I've read and loved the ACRO series by Sydney Croft, which is a pseudonym for Stephanie Tyler and Larissa Lone. This is the first time I've a book written by just Stephanie. It was pretty good but I think I know what Larissa contributed to the ACRO series. Also, I would totally love for them to continue the ACRO series. Those stories are amazing!!!

This is not my usual type of genre, as there was more action and thrill than I usually get in a mystery romance book. Even with all the action and spy stuff, the author did a good job with the romance with Cam and Skylar. They are a great couple. I have to admit, I got lost a few times especially with the backstory involving Dylan and Riley. Over-all Rating 3.75

Turns out. there were at least MC club references ... MC's parents were some kind of undercover law enforcement infiltrating a MC gang ...
I was pleasantly confused for at least the first third of the story, as Ms Tyler's style seems to be to throw you into the middle of the pond and let you flail. In this case, it was an assassination attempt on our hero which he must escape to begin the story. A full cast of characters are immediately introduced, but it's only through flashbacks, current attacks, and multiple pov jumps that a web of deceit and betrayal is slowly revealed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and have purchased #2 in this series. I'll be reading a lot of Ms Tyler...
