It's perfect for people who want to test the waters with omegaverse that is very light here, and the arranged marriage trope works well here. Misery's POV is fun to follow and getting all the glimpses of Lowe as the book goes on is CHEF'S KISS. He's SO GODDAMN HOT AND I WISH THIS WAS A DARK ROMANCE. 👀 There were some parts I didn't like here and there, but the buildup was great!! I can't wait to see what Ali does next!

I knew once I read the dedication that this book was going to be good and that it would wreck me and I was right.

December 13th, 2023 Vee: This starts off where Fourth Wing left off and it's just an info dump of information after that. Certain parts were a little clunky and I had to reread to properly absorb but the overall feel of the book was so good! It was tense, emotional, exciting!! You learn so much but are just left asking more questions or if you're like me jumping to conclusions, which makes me very nervous for the upcoming books. I don't want to say too much and be spoilery but just know you're in for a ride with riders who are going through it and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

August 20th, 2023 Mei: This is an ACTUAL enemies to lovers read, and I absolutely loved everything about Sylvia and Arin's dynamic. There was NO HOLDING BACK when they squared off against each other, and I loved the animosity and also forced proximity that was involved here. The slow burn is super satisfying and the pacing felt mostly natural. Following Sylvia was really fun, and I thought she's a great FMC. To then also get a little perspective from Arin's world as she interacted with him was especially nice too!! The worldbuilding had a lot of depth, and there's a lot of politics and cultures at play too. The side characters also added nice flavor here. I found this to be a really strong debut novel and did a great job setting up for the next book.

I went in to this series blind, just expecting a causal dark romance but there was so much to unpack!! The storyline was incredible, a total emotional rollercoaster, with some of the funniest scenes and characters I have ever read. This entire series is now one of my absolute favorites. Book one is fairly tame but if you continue the series the 18+ rating gets stronger! I highly recommend this if you enjoy emotionally engaging story, and smutty scenes. Even if you skip over all the graphic romance it’s a really interesting story! (You do not need to read other books in the Solaria world - aka Zodiac Academy- to enjoy this series) Also, your heart will get ripped out and stomped on a few times but

Why we're reading this

November 9th, 2022 Garrett: I've been reading this book to Berry because it's one of my favorite books of all time. Without this book I don't know that I'd have ever gotten as interested in reading as I am now. This book is part of a completed trilogy, which is attached to two larger stories that are still being published. First being that Mistborn is separated into different eras, this book being part of Era 1. In total there are 6 books, with a 7th coming out in Mid-November. The second story it is attached to is what Brandon Sanderson calls ""The Cosmere"", which is a collection of most of the books he's written in the past which he connects to each other lightly, but may connect more directly in the future. I think the thing I like most about this book is the world building and the creativity is his magic systems, I felt like he put so much thought in how the magic systems would affect how people live their lives and it was such a pleasure reading something where the author felt so thoughtful about what he was putting onto paper.

Feel free to join in in #buddy-read! ----- October 15th, 2022 Lilly: I don't know why it took me so long to actually recommend this book, but I'm fixing that now. The Chronicles of Narnia is the definitive children's lit series (I take no constructive criticism on this), and it's one of the most iconic fantasy series of all time, largely because of this first book. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe reinvented and perfected the portal fantasy genre. This first book and all its sequels are super creative, exciting, and easy to read, making them ideal for a new reader (like I was) or anyone in a reading slump.

January book of the month, suggested by Garrett. ----- September 17th, 2022 Shen: I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. Each book in the trilogy gets better, but this is where it all starts. The world is immersive, the politics fascinating, and Fonda Lee puts so much thought into her characters. You'll love or hate so many of them, but you can't deny that they go through a lot of growth. Jade City is surprising, tense, and I wish I could read it again for the first time.

July 15th, 2023 <u<Sloth</u>: Two words: read it. Seriously, this series is AMAZING. <u>Shen</u>: I LOVED THIS. This was such a refreshing take on morally grey characters. I was not expecting the level of violence that this book has at moments but I loved it and each action scene was so good. This book has also been adapted into a webtoon, which is very exciting! I’ve heard good things about it so I look forward to reading that.

June 2nd, 2023 Mei: OKAY SOOO... YES, HUGE CAVEAT that the trigger warnings are INSANE and also very spoilery, but Silvia did an amazing job with the gothic house horror here, I promise. &#x1f602; It's a pretty slow build-up with the mystery and the horror, and the antagonists make you SO FREAKIN' ANGRY and are absolute fucked up creeps. The pay off is so worth it though. The third act was a wild ride, and the writing was really good throughout! It gave me strong Resident Evil 7 vibes with the description of some of the things going on! Our protagonist Noemi is very badass too! There's also some themes of romance, and I think Silvia did pretty good with balancing all of the pieces together.
