The Nobel Prize Winner José Saramago is one of the greatest living authors today.
His style is authentic (long sentences and paragraphs, the exclusion of proper nouns in some of his books, truisms and philosophical/existential speculation integrated in the narrative etc.) and one may be tempted to say, requiring a little bit more than usual from the reader, than other writers attempt or dare to do.
The reward coming from reading his books is there, though, every time.
