I recently remembered my copy of the complete Sherlock Holmes canon as read by Stephen Fry and I decided to slowly make my way through each of the books. This was how it all started, and while I remembered the first half, I didn't remember much about the part that took place in Utah with the Mormons. Before reading this, my first reading of the Arthur Conan Doyle originals, my first encounter with Sherlock Holmes was CSI's Who Shot Sherlock episode. Since then I've enjoyed the likes of Mr. Patrick Jane of The Mentalist, Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock (BBC) and Johnny Lee Miller's Elementary. I'd also argue there's a bit of Holmes in Sheldon of The Big Bang Theory as well. Those adaptations far surpassed the original. I originally had read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes back in high school at the recommendation of a friend, and it made so little impression on me that I can't remember a single memorable case or story from that book (I was more a Poirot fan at the time, too).
