From different perspectives, the lead up to, the torpedoing itself, and the aftermath of the event that brought about shock throughout the world about the Lusitania's last crossing is the focus of Larson's book.

Dead wake is the path in the water a torpedo makes on the way to its target.
This book was about the sinking of the Lusitania in May of 1915.
This book chronicles the passengers, President Wilson and Schweiger, the U20 submarine captain who sank the luxury cruiser.
It looks into the lives of the passengers and crew (1959 with 761 surviving) before, during and after the sinking. It told the stories of why the passengers were on the ship, who they met on the ship, and family and friends they lost.

Honestly, if you read any Erik Larsen book you'd know he is the ultimate non fiction historical author out there. He makes history come alive in such riveting detail and suspense.

This is probably my favourite Erik Larson book. I knew the story of the Lusitania but here it is brought to life. Larson makes it real with descriptions of not only the passengers and crew of the Lusitania but also with insight into the U boat captain and his mission. All in all an excellent historical novel.

Detailed look at the sinking of the Lusitania and the effect it had on the U.S. And it's entry into WWI.
